School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

"The Tories are the only party who can define what a Woman is ffs."

Ah yes the tories who have done such a bang up job those 'defined' women can be raped with virtual impunity.

The Conservative party are no friends to women.

The stuff about defining what a woman is took a bit longer than I expected, but it seems to have arrived, along with the Tory and Brexit apologists.

France offered UK the option to spend £20m a year to pay for extra Passport booths at all locations in France. UK didn't take up the offer. Nor has UK government thought to provide the extra border staff needed for passport control following Brexit. Brexiters that voted for what they didn't even understand will mess up their own future generations in many ways with their xenophobic short-sightedness. So sorry for your son OP, can only hope trip can be rescheduled in the not too distant future

I’ve flown through loads of bloody European airports in the last 6m and not one of them was fully staffed and hundreds of brits had to queue up to see one of 2 people in booths
while the European arrangement were all automatic or biometric. We’ve shot ourselves in the foot.

too many people had smoke blown up their arses, believed that they mattered to the boris circus and despite what we all said, they voted like fucking lemmings.

Of course you can. I live in this part of Kent. There used to be a chaotic day or two once every couple of years. Now it's constant, the roads grind to a halt constantly, baffled tourists, exhausted lorry drivers, it's crushing the seaside economy further because you literally cannot get to the towns. It's a fucking mess, and only one thing changed.

One thing yes the people themselves

itsgettingweird · 02/04/2023 13:44

Florenz · 02/04/2023 13:02

I do think the school was reckless in scheduling a school trip to sail from Dover on the first weekend of the Easter holidays. It was chaos last year, it's always going to be chaos, it was bad enough even before Brexit.

So all the schools move their trips to ski resorts and then all travel on a different day en masse.

And that solves the issue how?

Casilero · 02/04/2023 13:45

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 13:42

But then the 20mil is better spent else where rather than just making the trips slightly faster

Exactly! Like on portraits of his majesty at 8 million.

Pipsquiggle · 02/04/2023 13:45

Also blame the Brexiteers. I can't blame everyone who voted Brexit as they were lied to and duped.
I will blame people who voted for Brexit and think all of this is 'worth it for sovereignty' bollocks

Everything that is happening at Dover was entirely predictable and will probably be repeated for every peak holiday.

I really really hate this situation and how the tories have made it even worse.

I feel so sorry for your son OP - he didn't get any say in this shit show.

JudgeRudy · 02/04/2023 13:46

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 11:37

@TomatoFrog bollocks. It lies entirely at the tories feet - Brexit it an unmitigated disaster. It was the tories that insisted that every passport had to be stamped.

Hang on. Didn't we have a referendum on Brexit. The people voted, the government acted.

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 13:46

Casilero · 02/04/2023 13:45

Was that govt funded or private funded

thenightsky · 02/04/2023 13:41

Yes, I know a few that make a point of telling me how they, of course, voted Remain. Bollocks... they were shouting their gobs off down the pub about how strongly 'Leave' they were. They think we don't remember this?? Hmm

I know! It is laughable isn't it!

One of the people I know was so pro-Leave it was untrue. I nearly spat out my drink the other day when he talked about 'We Remainers' !

I said 'WHAT?!!!'

He went a bit red.

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 13:42

So where is it being better spent elsewhere then?

hellesbells · 02/04/2023 13:46

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/04/2023 12:16

"British nationals travelling to and from European Union countries from May 2022 and on will no longer have their passports stamped, as the information on the date of their entry to the block, or the exit, will be recorded through a new automated system"

Hmm, interesting
So I wonder if this is yet another case of a system going down/not being fit for purpose and they just don't want to say

This has been delayed you still need your passports stamped

Celeriacsoup · 02/04/2023 13:47

Never stopped the French unions coming out on strike regularly during the holiday periods though.

That’s a national matter for France to deal with.

These delays that caused the op’s son to miss his holiday, start on our UK side of the border. They are so bad that some school coaches are sitting in service stations way back from the border because they haven’t made it to the port of Dover yet. The delays are the direct result of all the post-Brexit legislation finally coming in to full force.

Sortyourlifeout · 02/04/2023 13:47

FUCK THE TORIES, FUCK BREXIT AND FUCK THOSE PEOPLE WHO KEEP SUPPORTING OUR CIRCUS OF A GOVERNMENT.

I'm so sorry for your son and all his friends. The Tories should be bloody ashamed.

Rosula · 02/04/2023 13:48

ChaToilLeam · 02/04/2023 12:38

And you can’t just blame the Tories (though they have much to answer for), Labour were shit on this too.

You really cannot blame Labour. The Tories have been in power for 13 years. This is 100% down to them.

Casilero · 02/04/2023 13:49

ilovesooty · 02/04/2023 13:46

So where is it being better spent elsewhere then?

Pictures sooty, pictures. It'll give the kids something to look at when they're not going skiing won't it?

Maze76 · 02/04/2023 13:49

Whilst I somewhat agree that Brexit has paid a part in this utter shambles, in the 80’s for my school trips to France, I travelled on a paper ‘ temporary’ passport, and we had none of this chaos. I acknowledge the number of travellers has increased since the then , but so has technology, so there must be a system that can be utilised to speed up this process.

Abra1t · 02/04/2023 13:49

JudgeRudy · 02/04/2023 13:46

Hang on. Didn't we have a referendum on Brexit. The people voted, the government acted.

Including four million labour supporters.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 13:49

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 13:46

Government. We the people are paying for these poxy portraits. They are going up in Town Halls, Fire Stations, Police Stations (if there's any left after 600 were closed) and any public buildings. It is not obligatory

I live near doer and I'm pretty sure it has nothing whatsoever to do with the tories!! The wind here is ducking awful and has been like this for at least a week.. the boats simply are not safe to sail. 🤷🏼‍♀️ what the heck has that got to do with politics

Rosula · 02/04/2023 13:50

RedEyeBaby · 02/04/2023 12:40

I wonder why the ferry company doesn't put on more staff

How would that remedy delays caused by passport checks?

And where would they magic up staff from? It's way more difficult to recruit staff at that level post Brexit.

StillWantingADog · 02/04/2023 13:50

Feel very bad for your son. And all teachers involved.

and yes brexit is 90% to blame.

rockingbird · 02/04/2023 13:50

Dover... 🤦‍♀️
