School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

One of my moronic Brexit-voting friends claimed the passport delays are due to the Europeans 'punishing' the Brits for Brexit.

Until I pointed out to her that no, we gave up our special treatment by leaving the EU and now get the same treatment at borders as Americans, Australians etc..

Some people are so thick.

postop · 02/04/2023 13:33

Labour won't be able to get us back into Europe. This country is absolutely destroyed.

billy1966 · 02/04/2023 13:33

Your poor son.

Very disappointing for them all.

I would be very upset if it was my child.

acrimoniousone · 02/04/2023 13:34

"52% of people in the uk literally voted for this"

52% of those that voted did. It was a high turnout but 30% of eligible voters didn't bother.

Cakeandcardio · 02/04/2023 13:34

I'm sorry for your son. And I fully agree - the tories have ruined so much and yet they still have their supporters. I cannot tolerate anyone who suggests they are doing an acceptable job.

User639762456 · 02/04/2023 13:34

Probably wasn't a good idea to book a holiday via Dover at start of Easter holidays, it was pretty obvious this would happen

LakieLady · 02/04/2023 13:35

IClaudine · 02/04/2023 11:46

Can you explain what has caused this situation @TomatoFrog ?

OP it is crap for those kids and all the other kids caught up in this. Your poor son. The only upside I can think of is they will not vote Tory when they are of voting age.

I was thinking along those lines too @IClaudine , and hoping that they'd all use this awful experience to inform their future voting.

Mind you, I suppose it is a bit unreasonable to lay all the blame at the Tories' door. The 17.4m people who voted to leave should really take their share of responsbility for all the appalling fallout from their decision.

But I'll never forget that it was the Tories that gave them the opportunity.

Fuck Cameron and his shameful attempt to neutralise the Brexiteers. Putting party before country like that is just shameful.

The poor kids, they must be devastated, and spending hours and hours stuck on a coach must be absolute hell.

LadyLapsang · 02/04/2023 13:36

I am so sorry, your son and his classmates must be so disappointed. Also,I feel incredibly sorry for all the school staff who must have worked so hard to plan a great trip. I wonder if all the children will have parents at home. We often used to go straight to the airport when DC was abroad with school.

DeeCeeCherry · 02/04/2023 13:37

France offered UK the option to spend £20m a year to pay for extra Passport booths at all locations in France. UK didn't take up the offer. Nor has UK government thought to provide the extra border staff needed for passport control following Brexit. Brexiters that voted for what they didn't even understand will mess up their own future generations in many ways with their xenophobic short-sightedness. So sorry for your son OP, can only hope trip can be rescheduled in the not too distant future

Celeriacsoup · 02/04/2023 13:38

But at the same time the article in the daily mail does suggest it's the French side that's caused the delay

<deep breath>

Pre-Brexit, when we had a reciprocal agreement with other EU countries like France, coaches of UK tourists could whizz through French borders and only a few were stopped for customs and security checks.

The French are now following protocol treating any passengers from the
UK the same as any other visitor who is outside of the EU, which means that individual British coach passengers have to get out of their coach and have their passport stamped. This is what we voted for.

JudgeJ · 02/04/2023 13:38

ilovesooty · 02/04/2023 11:36

Yeah, sure.

Rubbish.

The French? You do realise that the French have used their position regarding travel from the UK since time immemorial, air traffic control, the ports etc, irrespective of governments but as that doesn't match your bile.........

Allfizzandfun · 02/04/2023 13:38

Your poor son. These are the trips which make a lifetime of memories. You’ve ever right be been angry and upset.

The direct result of Cameron not being able to control his party, and the lies told by Boris. Too many voted leave on a promise of utter fabrication.

But, what’s the alternative here? The Tories are the only party who can define what a Woman is ffs.

Caused by brexit.

let’s be clear on this. Brexit has fucked up a shot load about the way we live and is the reason why we’re lagging behind the rest of Europe when it comes to recovery post covid.

JudgeJ · 02/04/2023 13:39

Pre-Brexit, when we had a reciprocal agreement with other EU countries like France, coaches of UK tourists could whizz through French borders and only a few were stopped for customs and security checks.

Never stopped the French unions coming out on strike regularly during the holiday periods though.

Of course you can. I live in this part of Kent. There used to be a chaotic day or two once every couple of years. Now it's constant, the roads grind to a halt constantly, baffled tourists, exhausted lorry drivers, it's crushing the seaside economy further because you literally cannot get to the towns. It's a fucking mess, and only one thing changed.

JackiePlace · 02/04/2023 13:40

It's disappointing but that's life and nobody will die as a result. You will get your money back and he can go on a ski trip next year.

Yes, this! Our Government rejected the opportunity to double passport checking facilities - and now want to blame the French.

Rhondaa · 02/04/2023 13:40

God, it happens every year at Easter and we'll see it again in the Summer hols.

I've no idea why A. anyone would use Dover at peak times and B. Why more staff aren't put on to manage the surge. Do the French not understand numbers go up in the school hols. I'll answer my own question - yes, yes they do. Do they give a rat's ass? Nope.

acrimoniousone · 02/04/2023 13:41

"The Tories are the only party who can define what a Woman is ffs."

Ah yes the tories who have done such a bang up job those 'defined' women can be raped with virtual impunity.

The Conservative party are no friends to women.

megletthesecond · 02/04/2023 13:41

Off the top of my head, the school kids on ski trips are often going precisely because their parents aren't loaded and it's the only way they can go.
We've never been abroad as a family but DD went skiing last year, none of her close mates had been before or have fancy holidays. My DC's wealthier friends go skiing with family.

The Tories are to blame for the no deal hard Brexit we have now, other forms of Brexit were possible.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 13:19

The people that voted for this shitshow are the people to blame for the mess we are in

Yep. And shock horror, I know of about 4 people who are now saying they voted Remain. Like hell you did! You told me at the time you voted to leave so don't pull that one!

Yes, I know a few that make a point of telling me how they, of course, voted Remain. Bollocks... they were shouting their gobs off down the pub about how strongly 'Leave' they were. They think we don't remember this?? Hmm

But then the 20mil is better spent else where rather than just making the trips slightly faster

I know, right. Imagine expecting a functioning country that means people can leave at will. What idiots.

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 13:43

Plus do we know if the French are operating the booths they have with full staff levels and if not then how would that 20mil helped
