School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

Of course it won’t. This bunch of lying, morally bankrupt douchebags have ruined this country for generations. But at least another Government can start the very long painful process of repair.

Agree. The first and most important thing is to get the lunatics out of power- they alone are responsible for bringing us to this point.

Celeriacsoup · 02/04/2023 12:55

All the kids whose ski holidays have been cancelled should go and camp on Jacob Rees-Moggs London doorstep, forcing him to return from his Easter holiday in his country pile.

Florenz · 02/04/2023 12:56

The Tories didn't vote for Brexit, David Cameron allowed the referendum assuming that Remain would win. The people voted for Brexit.

Thesharkradar · 02/04/2023 12:56

Managing the border is part of the governments job, we pay them to do it, why to you think they should be “entitled” to fuck it up so spectacularly?
Yes, WE pay those CUNTS to run the country, not milk it for all it's worth and give the money to their rich friends

User639762456 · 02/04/2023 12:58

I'm sure some Labour supporters also voted for Brexit

QuentininQuarantino · 02/04/2023 12:58

Where’s Clavinova with a link to a news article about a traffic jam in Belgium in 2021??

OP, it is absolutely shit. Write to your MP. Mine always says “it’s time to move on” 😠but he’s a Tory and complicit.

floradora · 02/04/2023 12:59

"The French". To be fair to those who voted leave, there was so little clarity truth about what brexit would entail - the Hard Brexit we got is entirely down to the Tories. OP, YANBU

myoldmansatrendydustman · 02/04/2023 12:59

Instead of wasting time on goady, emotive, factually incorrect posts OP why not use your energy to take this up with the trip organisers?

The new passport arrangements didn't come in overnight, so that should have been factored in with the logistics of the trip.

This situation has been ongoing for 3 days so there was ample time to sort out another route eg Hull/Zeebrugge.

It really is a Brexit, hard border issue.

This
We got what we voted for!
Although so sorry about your son, must have been really disappointing for him

Popfan · 02/04/2023 13:01

Just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear that, poor kids. My son went skiing with the school during February half term and I know he would have been incredibly upset if it had been cancelled, as you say something they'd been looking forward to for so long. As a parent it's so upsetting too when your children have something like this happen to them. Sending unmumsnetty hugs

ilovesushi · 02/04/2023 13:01

That is so rubbish! How awful for your son and all his school mates. These trips are expensive but they also create lifelong memories and this generation have already missed out on so many experiences and milestones. You must feel absolutely sick!

Florenz · 02/04/2023 13:02

I do think the school was reckless in scheduling a school trip to sail from Dover on the first weekend of the Easter holidays. It was chaos last year, it's always going to be chaos, it was bad enough even before Brexit.

The Tories didn't vote for Brexit, David Cameron allowed the referendum assuming that Remain would win. The people voted for Brexit.

The Tories negotiated the hard Brexit we have now, they could have gone for remaining in the single market but ending freedom of movement was more important to them.

Don't call me a liar because I have the ability to understand the perspective of others.

You are absolutely proving the point I made.

Your "You're wrong, I'm right" message is what people voted against.

So you understand why people chose to shoot, not just themselves, but an entire country in the foot in order to own the other side? Sorry, but I think that's called stupidity (not you, the voting philosophy).

I work in this area. Not seeing how it’s the government’s fault that the French didn’t staff their part of the border sufficiently or efficiently or that port control under estimated coach numbers or bad weather caused delays.
Yes Brexit changed the underlying nature of the control at the border but there were always checks on every passport. The main factor here was French inefficiency. UK border control are often under staffed too and queues build up on the other side. Never as bad as this though.

But we were supposed to be ‘taking back control’. As soon as you blame the French for impeding our ability to leave the U.K., you demonstrate how empty that claim was.

Celeriacsoup · 02/04/2023 13:05

Florenz · 02/04/2023 12:56

The Tories didn't vote for Brexit, David Cameron allowed the referendum assuming that Remain would win. The people voted for Brexit.

Do you think the outcome would still have been 52/48 % if Boris Johnson hadn’t spotted an opportunity for promotion, decided to vote Leave, and basically used the Brexit campaign to further his own political ambitions?

And Gove.

And all of those self-serving craptoids in the ERG?

And Jeremy Corbyn did no better.

They all betrayed the UK.

myoldmansatrendydustman · 02/04/2023 13:07

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 02/04/2023 12:34

This. Also I'm not sure how they could underestimate the number of coaches seeing as they had to pre-book and the weather wasn't that bad if there were ferries coming into Dover from France.

Exactly, this is all on the French who are probably too busy rioting in Paris to come to work🙄

Delatron · 02/04/2023 13:07

So awful for those kids - especially after missing out on so much due to the pandemic. I’m sorry OP. Bloody Brexit and our shitty, useless government. There are been problems at the ports for months. This could have been foreseen.

We were very lucky that DS school trip went across on Thursday eve. I don’t know if this was foresight by the school or just plain luck. I think sadly it’s something schools are going to have to factor in. Doesn’t help now for all those poor children and teachers though.

User639762456 · 02/04/2023 12:58

There wouldn't have been a vote if Cameron hadn't called the referendum.

Delatron · 02/04/2023 13:07

I’m also assuming it will be chaos on the way back though for DS.

A voice of reason at last 🙂

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 11:37

@TomatoFrog bollocks. It lies entirely at the tories feet - Brexit it an unmitigated disaster. It was the tories that insisted that every passport had to be stamped.

I am so so sorry for you and your son. He must be gutted. What an awful thing to happen.

Totally agree with your post. To see Braverman on TV this morning denying it was anything to do with Brexit nearly made me throw something at the telly. Of course it fucking is.
We now are a third country. We have to be stamped in and out of the country. That takes time. And that is WHY your poor son is missing out.

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 13:09

"Shocking that something this chaotic can happen. My children's school has a ski trip this week (they are not on it, with us instead) and their bus was turned away last night - they had to sleep at a service station and come back this morning.'"

From daily mail article

Notonthestairs · 02/04/2023 13:10

Brexit - bringing chaos to our borders. Travel only at prescribed times!

Didn't see that on the side of a bus.

NoCatsToday · 02/04/2023 13:10

Surely the fault is with the xenophobes in the British population who voted Brexit. It is inevitable that not wanting Johnny Foreigner to come over here was going to make it harder for us to go over there.
