Men pushing prams and pushchairs one handed?

Is it me or do they look incredibly foolish? It’s like they think pushing their child along is a woman’s job so they’re going to try and make it look as macho as possible by doing it with one hand. Every time I see it I feel like throwing something at their heads. Maybe I’ve got rage idk

Gosh what a thing to be bothered by! You're being rather intolerance here so I've voted YABU.

I push my pushchair one handed so that my Fitbit counts my steps properly 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bunny0707 · 04/09/2023 16:06

Doubt anyone cares enough to bother judging a pram pusher.

Malapataraso · 04/09/2023 20:07

A pram is probably the only thing on earth that is made to fit a woman’s body and not a man’s body. I’m guessing if they use two hands, their feet are going to hit the underneath part with their big man stride. It’s too small for them to use with two hands is my guess. Though they probably also don’t want to look or feel like Mary Poppins because women’s work is undervalued, and patriarchy is bullsh*t.

sparkleshin · 04/09/2023 20:09

I'm a woman and sometimes push with one hand

Ladybrrrd · 04/09/2023 20:10

All these women pushing prams with TWO hands. Is it me or do they look incredibly foolish? It’s like they're too weak to push the pram so they’re going to try and make it look as feminine as possible as possible by doing it with two hands. Every time I see it I feel like throwing something at their heads. Maybe I’ve got rage idk

Ladybrrrd · 04/09/2023 20:11

YABU.

tillyandmilly · 17/11/2023 23:08

I agree - its a macho thing as a colleague’s husband does this - and it makes her mad!

Throwhandsupintheair · 17/11/2023 23:23

I’ve noticed this too. They push one handed and sort of stand to the side. They take up lots of room on the pavement as a result. I’ve also wondered if they’re trying to look cool.

I see loads of women pushing buggies and prams one handed.
Usually because their phone ( and eyes ) is glued to the other.

I push mine one handed so my steps counts.

Yeah that's exactly what I did too.

KaarijasBowlCut · 18/11/2023 00:09

I've noticed lots of men pushing prams and buggies one-handed too and also thought they looked awkward and like they were trying to disassociate themselves from them.

However, I've never pushed a pram as an adult (only with my little brothers as a child) plus I'm short so it never occurred to me it could be height related.

On the rate occasion I see a woman pushing one-handed, it's because they've got another child's hand/a dog's lead/some other child or dog-related items in the other.

Rather than throwing something at their heads, perhaps just go up and break their fingers?

Like to see a man coming on here and threatening to break a woman's fingers. He would be absolutely slaughtered. Violent hatred of all men are traits of a lot of seemingly bitter women on MN

BertieBotts · 18/11/2023 00:16

I always push mine with one hand, it makes me look soooo stylish and nonchalant. (I'm female despite the name).

Actually walking off to the side is sort of a side effect of pushing one handed, because you have to centre the hand on the handlebar, so... your body is to the side, otherwise you end off veering over to one side.

Bbq1 · 18/11/2023 00:19

I've just realised that somebody has resurrected this thread from April!

IvorTheEngineDriver · 18/11/2023 01:19

We do it because it adds an element of challenge to what is otherwise a totally tedious chore.

HTH

WandaWonder · 18/11/2023 01:41

Omg won't someone think of the children

bonkersAlice · 18/11/2023 01:45

Because they can 😄

rainbowsparkle28 · 18/11/2023 05:22

Huh?..never even crossed my mind! - they are pushing a pushchair, it literally doesn't affect you?! 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Nomechanged · 18/11/2023 05:48

I push to the side sometimes to use my body to block out the sun and keep little one in the shade. A lot of judgment and overthinking here.

floofbag · 18/11/2023 06:41

They do look a bit daft but have been doing it for years . Not sure if it's a macho thing or it's because they have a deeper gait and hit their legs on the back of the frame ..

I don't think it's that though 🤔🤔...

blabla2023 · 18/11/2023 06:50

Why would you need 2 hands on a halfway decent pram??? I‘ve heard of pearl clutching, is handlebar clutching the step up?

Userxyd · 18/11/2023 07:15

Totally with you on this! It makes me cringe too. Not when it looks more comfy or it's necessary with hands full/ whatever.
But when there's a swagger and they're clearly feeling uncomfortable and trying to style it out- and making baby less safe - it really gets me!
There is nothing wrong with a man pushing a pushchair! They need to get over it and use two hands with pride!!
The safety thing is similar to driving one handed on the motorway- FFS not worth the risk to relax one arm! Shock

Badatthis · 18/11/2023 07:18

There's a man near me who cycles with a pram. He rides his bike and pushes the pram along beside him with his left hand. It looks so dangerous and he's often wobbling as the pram direction changes. The baby looks like a newborn.

LolaSmiles · 18/11/2023 07:20

I push mine one handed so my steps counts
Same, or I want to change my music, or hold a dog lead in my other hand, or drink coffee.

babbygabby · 18/11/2023 07:29

Loads of women do this too though?
