Men pushing prams and pushchairs one handed?

Is it me or do they look incredibly foolish? It’s like they think pushing their child along is a woman’s job so they’re going to try and make it look as macho as possible by doing it with one hand. Every time I see it I feel like throwing something at their heads. Maybe I’ve got rage idk

I tend to push prams and trollies one handed if the handle height is too low for me otherwise I end up with a bad back.

Curseofthenation · 01/04/2023 15:36

I do it because I'm a slightly taller woman and walk long distances at a fast pace with my buggy. It's so much more comfortable. I'm a woman.

Curseofthenation · 01/04/2023 15:37

I'm a women *though.

Curseofthenation · 01/04/2023 15:37

*woman damn 😆

ChevySilverado · 01/04/2023 15:37

It’s not just the one handed thing, it’s a combination of the one handed thing and they also position themselves to one side of the pushchair, like they’re pretending it’s not really them pushing it. It’s weird.

Albiboba · 01/04/2023 15:38

@TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl I had decent prams when mine were kids, if I steered one handed the pram would have gone in one direction!

So not a decent pram then if it had crap
steering.

Women pushing prams and pushchairs two handed?

I do that as well, it is sometimes a lot more comfortable to do it that way if the handle height is unsuitable.

Mogonthemoon · 01/04/2023 15:50

Omg this annoys me too!!! I see it all the time near me, it's like the buggy is not cool enough, or it doesn't match their billowing Addias trackies or something 😂😂😂

Deadringer · 01/04/2023 15:55

They'd push it with their penis if they could.

I’m 5ft 10 had numerous prams and never pushed any with one hand unless checking phone momentarily or holding another child’s hand. I’m not convinced these men I’m seeing are all pushing one handed to save their backs or whatever. I think it’s very suspicious…

Yes see I get that impression as well 😅

Well it seems many posters have had a sense of humour failure on that one as it’s quite clear the OP was joking. Some people’s nerves have certainly been touched today.

Just because someone is joking it doesn’t mean their joke is funny…

Oigetoffmylawn · 01/04/2023 16:07

I find two handed pushing uncomfortable. I get neck and back ache much worse if I use 2 hands, so I don't.

shutthewindownow · 01/04/2023 16:54

Most people push one handed cause they can't put their phone down !

Dirtydiesel · 01/04/2023 17:10

I used to do it because I had carpal tunnel syndrome and one hand used to go numb if I held the buggy with it for more than a few minutes.

Curseofthenation · 01/04/2023 15:04

I push mine one handed too...it's a Vista and therefore pretty easy to use one handed as it steers well. I didn't realise I was being judged for it! Oh well...

Same 🤷

bussteward · 01/04/2023 17:40

I hate men as much as the next sane person but what? I push one-handed so I can fight with people on Mumsnet at the same time, or eat a large iced bun. Two hands is inefficient.

Berklilly · 01/04/2023 19:11

I generally push the pushchair one handed when I can, only use both hands if I need to. Dad always pushes it with both hands...
Never realised I was the foolish one in that relationship!

itsgettingweird · 01/04/2023 19:20

That's exactly why I purchased a one handled pram/pushchair.

It's easier when you can and I could get more speed up and step count recorded.

Although it was also a godsend post c section for balancing when walking Grin

yogaretreat · 01/04/2023 20:39

I push mine one handed, it's a bugaboo bee so very light 🤷‍♀️

Irridescantshimmmer · 01/04/2023 21:05

When they start adding indicators, wing mirrors and rear view mirrors to buggies, thats when they can take one hand off the wheel😅

Sirzy · 01/04/2023 21:09

Ds is a wheelchair user, I am short, standing to the side and pushing one handidly is still my preference

FrictionDiction · 01/04/2023 21:16

I'm a woman and I do this because I'm too tall. Even with the handle extended - so technically high enough - my leg length feels like I'm going to kick the basket and I feel hunched. It's an unnatural way to walk, I'd imagine it's similar for a lot of men.

The pram also feels more nimble with one hand but that's probably due to a more comfortable walking position.
