Men pushing prams and pushchairs one handed?

Eatentoomanyroses · 01/04/2023 14:56

Is it me or do they look incredibly foolish? It’s like they think pushing their child along is a woman’s job so they’re going to try and make it look as macho as possible by doing it with one hand. Every time I see it I feel like throwing something at their heads. Maybe I’ve got rage idk

OP posts:

I totally agree! It’s like they look hard to pushing it with just one hand 🤣

Brunilde · 01/04/2023 15:17

What a ridiculous thing to say. I push mine one handed because I can quite easily and it feels comfier? than 2 hands. What's your reasoning for women doing it?

Well according to another poster it's so we can also look at our phones whilst pushing the pushchair...

Judgement all round for both men and women I see.

MrsR87 · 01/04/2023 15:04

I’m a woman and I usually push my pushchair one handed as I have my seven month in the buggy and my two year old walks at the side holding my hand. I wonder how foolish I look?!?

Quite clearly not what the OP meant.

Also why are saying OP is worked up about anything?!

Rockingcloggs · 01/04/2023 15:19

Who cares?! So long as they aren't ramming the pram under a moving car then it's fine for them to push it however they want! Jesus, they rightfully get done when they don't take the kid out enough and then they get told they're pushing them around incorrectly when they do!

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 01/04/2023 15:19

I pushed our DC's pram/pushchair with one hand and DW always used to say I looked like I couldn't be bothered which was very annoying, as I used to enjoy it and couldn't give a fuck what anyone else thought.

Simple truth is, I am taller than DW, the handles were not adjustable and it was easier to push one handed rather than hunch my shoulders over to use both just so I could "look more interested". I don't get the big deal personally 🤷‍♂️

Rather than throwing something at their heads, perhaps just go up and break their fingers?

Okunevo · 01/04/2023 15:20

I'd say it's just height compared with the handles as they are designed for an average woman, and strength so they can more easily maneuver it one handed than a woman.

MaltedCow · 01/04/2023 15:21

Wow comes to something when men can't even push prams in a Mumsnet accepted fashion 🙄

ShimmeringShirts · 01/04/2023 15:21

I used to push mine one handed if I was going a fair distance, my pram was so damn uncomfortable to hold on to for long periods of time. I’m a woman though, did I look foolish? Hmm

TheLurpackYears · 01/04/2023 15:21

How tall are you OP and what hight is the handle of your pram. I'm 5'8" and my dc' do is 6'3". We shopped around for a pram with the highest possible handle to avoid this (Evo Mutsy BTW, it was a brilliant bit of kit).
My rampant feminist late dm used to have a good rant about this, I realised why it happened when I got a baby and a normal sized pram.

Plumbear2 · 01/04/2023 15:23

It dosent mean anything. I'm a woman but often pushed them with one hand 🙄

AlwaysLatte · 01/04/2023 15:24

What a strange post. I used to push mine one handed too sometimes!

I push the pram one handed and I’m a woman. Are you going to throw something at my head?

Maybe find something more productive to focus your rage at.

Sometimes I actually have the audacity to do just that. How dare I whilst pushing around a sleeping baby that couldn't give two shits what I'm doing. Maybe I should spend my time judging other people instead!

I’m aware…just highlighting that it seems a daft thing to get worked up over or judge someone on.

People are saying she’s worked up because she said she wanted to throw something at their heads I guess.

PurpleAirGuitar · 01/04/2023 15:26

I've been known to do that and I'm not a man. I can think of much more important things to worry about.

Goodread1 · 01/04/2023 15:26

Men can't do anything right on here,

I think they do this, cause its comfortable and cause often they tall and have to stoop is too much,
So what if they look bit silly, and they are showing off to their mates, how good they are being the role of New Daddy and that,

Who cares how they maneuver their pram,

Along as its Safe way,

It's better than Alternative,
than fathers who either, just father a baby and do a runner from any responsibilities relating to taking care of baby

Or
Just waster Loser types men who father babies /children , who are next to useless

What do you think @Eatentoomanyroses ?

Eleganz · 01/04/2023 15:27

I know it probably wasn't meant to be that serious, but come on! If we just criticise men because they choose to do parenting differently to women then we just become part of the problem, yes that includes how they push pushchairs.

SoupDragon · 01/04/2023 15:27

I had to do this or shorten my stride to avoid kicking the brake bar. Men are going to have a longer stride than most women and prams, unless adjustable, aren't designed for it so it's the pram manufacturer's fault, not the man pushing the pram.

YoDood · 01/04/2023 15:28

I used to do this all the time because I’d be working and using my other hand to call people/dictate emails/read documents et cetera. It’s a weird thing to get worked up about.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 01/04/2023 15:28

I used to push the pram one handed.

Nothing to do with being macho/a man as I'm neither.
Nor was it so I could look at my phone because 18 years ago people didn't always have their phones in their hands.

butterfliedtwo · 01/04/2023 15:28

It's you.

ThisIsUncool · 01/04/2023 15:32

I noticed this and wondered about it, more because they were walking to the side of the pram and taking up the whole width of the pavement.
But I did find this, for those who need a manlier pram...

Skoda's 'Mega Man-Pram': A manly stroller for manly dads

Skoda Auto has unveiled a giant, high-spec stroller that it's calling "the ultimate accessory for new dads."

Well it seems many posters have had a sense of humour failure on that one as it’s quite clear the OP was joking. Some people’s nerves have certainly been touched today.

I had decent prams when mine were kids, if I steered one handed the pram would have gone in one direction!

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 01/04/2023 15:33
