Who the duck do I vote for?

Hi - I have a dilemma. I can’t morally vote Tory again although it probably on paper is most logical choice for me. I also cannot vote for labour I disagree with at least 3 of their major policies. I could vote locally for Lib Dem but is it worth it? Or just don’t vote? I’m sick to back teeth of lying scumbags running this country. I will never ever forgive the tories for brexit (the biggest mistake of in my lifetime that has robbed our children of opportunity) but I also don’t really agree with a lot of labour policies. Can anyone help?

If you live in the Home counties (south east) the Tories have life long big majorities. Sussex, Kent Surrey and Essex is mainly Conservative.
I don’t think that will change. For me , that’s my problem anyway.

The Tory vote is mostly concentrated in older people of low educational attainment in social classes C, D and E in retirement flats and mobile home parks these days.

That's why they've gone all hang 'em flog em, punish asylum seekers for daring to apply and punish teenagers and the homeless for existing.

Unless a given area has a high concentration of these voters plus a large immigrant polar ion of Indian or Nepalese etc that tend to vote Conservative, then it's up for grabs.,

Vote Donald.

He's been indicted. Wink

CanadianJohn · 31/03/2023 00:49

Please note I am not in UK.

Can not someone start a movement, or something, called The Anti-Tory Coalition. Find someone - or several someones - in each riding to identify which candidate is most likely to be able to upset the incumbent Tory, and then urge people to vote for that candidate.

The point is to concentrate the ABC votes (Anyone But Conservative) in favour of an upset candidate.

CallieQ · 31/03/2023 00:50

Vote Green!

They already do that.

I’d never admit to voting Tory coZ I’d never vote Tory scum in. The behaviour of the Tory government comes as no surprise to their non voters, they’ve always been out for themselves and the more fortunate in our society. All these pearl clutches acting shocked make me laugh.

Vote Green!

I would if they could beat the Tory.

But that's what it has to be about this time.

Getting these corrupt useless chancers' grubby paws off our country's money so they can't give any more billions to their mates instead of spending it on things e need.

LuluBlakey1 · 31/03/2023 01:11

You vote for whoever is most likely to beat the Tory in your constituency. That's what you do. Don't waste your vote.

These bastards need to be out of government for good- they have destroyed so much of what we valued about our country and managed to give their mates billions of public monies. They are corrupt, greedy, immoral, couldn't give a toss about anyone who is not wealthy and see everything as a means of increasing the wealth of the already rich. There are some things that should be nationalised/state responsibilities- the NHS, Education, Social Care, Social housing, the environment, child social care, water, energy, food standards and animal welfare standards. They have sold the country to venture capitalists and asset strippers- mainly foreigners who now own vast tracts of the country.

verdantverdure · 31/03/2023 14:29

This is what I plan to do.

No fart-arseing about wringing my hands about how there isn't a VerdantVerdure party that agrees with my views entirely so I'll have to spoil my ballot or give up my right to vote.

Vote for what's best for your country and the people in it.

We know how bad things get under Tory governments.

We can't afford any more VIP Lanes pouring billions of pounds of our country's money into their friends and donors pockets.

Vote for anyone who can beat your safe seat Tory.

Vote tactically.

Vote as if it's about our whole country and not just you.

NOTA all the way.

OzziePopPop · 31/03/2023 14:48

Genuine question, I’m really not thick but haven’t had a lot of interest in politics historically (I have always voted according to whichever party’s main policies I agreed with, which is possibly wrong?). I live in North Somerset with the asshole Liam Fox MP who has been ‘in’ for most of my life I think! I want him out, who do I vote for?? I don’t actually even care at this point beyond getting rid of him. I’m disabled and have had cause to contact him a couple of times over the years and he’s been awful.

I tried this site, https://tacticalvote.co.uk/ but depressingly it came up with:
NO RECOMMENDATIONTO STOP THE TORIES IN XXXXXXXWHY?Tory safe seat. Tactical voting is not effective here.

How To Vote To Stop The Tories

This site shows which way you should vote to prevent the Tories from getting into power again

Closer to the next election there'll be loads about tactical voting. Especially on Twitter. So look into it closer to the time, but his majority was only about 17,000 the last couple of times. (Roughly in the middle in safe seat status)

Labour came second and the Lib Dems third last time so it's likely to be one of them. The Tory vote will shrink and probably be split with another right wing party. It's definitely doable.

saraclara · 31/03/2023 15:01

This one tells me to vote Labour though. Which is what I plan to do.

Look up the tactical vote in your constituency

17,536 people voted for Liam Fox out of a voter pool of 80,194.

Things might change closer to the election but it is likely to be Labour in most constituencies.

I think you usually know if the Lib Dems are strong locally.

Hold on, that's not true. That was his majority.

verdantverdure · 31/03/2023 15:08

Liam Fox got 32,801 votes out of a potential 80,194.

DPotter · 31/03/2023 15:08

I have the same dilemma. I live in a constituency deemed a safe tory seat, but the LibDem are catching up fast and the tory incumbent is not popular. Labour hardly feature and independents have their Mum's vote but that's about it.

Can't vote tory and as neither LibDems or Labour understand the basics of the birds and the bees, I don't trust them. Concerned if I don't vote LibDem, we'll get another tory idiot (who does at least understand the b&bs). Grrrrrrr.

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2023 15:10

People are going to just tell you who they are voting for

You’re going to have to just decide, you’ve got time before the GE before you need to

Then you've got to make a choice.

Country or agreement with you on birds and bees.

If it helps I have voted Tory, Lib Dem and Labour in the past. Nowadays would probably vote Green from choice because although I am fairly GC myself climate change is the biggest issue we face. It's literally one of survival for our children.

But I'll vote for whoever can beat the Tory. Because I believe getting their hands off our money and their failed ideology out of our policy is vital at this point to stop our country's decline.

Reversing Brexit would have the biggest and fastest positive effect on our economy, and no party has that as a policy so far.

There's probably never going to be an ideal candidate for me.

I'm still going to vote though.

For the best possible option.

And that's whoever can beat the Tory.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/03/2023 15:33

CallieQ · 31/03/2023 00:50

Vote Green!

No chance, not while they are so anti woman.

I'll vote independent in the local elections but I have no idea who to vote for in the next general election. Probably SDP if we have a candidate, if not I might spoil the ballot paper

DPotter · 31/03/2023 15:33

verdantverdure

I know I'll need to decide - that's the basis of my dilemma. I have in the past managed to find some common ground but as it stands with 21 months to go to the next general election, I'm really at a lost to see a way through. I shall vote (I think everyone should) but I'll be making whoever I vote for, earn it.

I'm doing what I can - I'm standing as an independent in local council elections focusing on green issues and safe spaces.

saraclara · 31/03/2023 15:38

There's a really good local councillor in my small part of the constituency who's standing as an Independent in the GE. I wish he wouldn't, because he's just going to divert the 'not Tory' vote.
