I do not understand snacks

Yellowdaffodila · 27/03/2023 10:52

So I'm not from the UK and I hear and read about the snack thing all the time.
What is a snack? When I take my children out I'm asked to bring snacks. They will be home for food after our trip. They eat breakfast. Why a snack?

Some people like snacking. There isn’t really anything to understand, if you don’t want snacks then don’t have any.

Google is your friend here.

I am with you, we are a non snacking family it’s three meals a day and snacking is incredibly rare though as DS is an adult now he does occasionally, DH is white but also doesn’t snack. I was born and raised here but was raised with my families cultural attitude towards food.

What a silly response, mnet literally wouldn't exist if everyone just googled their question would it? 😒

It's a silly question, tbf. It's obvious what a snack is. It's also obvious why someone might want one.

Kids are snack mad now. No visit to the park can be done without a selection of food and drinks. Then we wonder why they won’t - or can’t - eat at mealtimes.

Regularsizedrudy · 27/03/2023 10:59

Because they might be peckish while they are out.

It's usual to refuel after sport. Football swimming etc. We always had a packet of crisps and a can of coke after swimming as it was about an hour till lunch.

blankittyblank · 27/03/2023 11:00

It's just if you get peckish between meals. Then you might what something to tide you over. Could be fruit or crackers or biscuits. Not really a hard concept to grasp.

Chowtime · 27/03/2023 11:01

Do you mind if I ask what country you come from where snacks don't exist and you don't know what they are? Your english is very good by the way.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 27/03/2023 11:01

I don't eat snacks and I'm fat. Just wanted to get that out there.

BadForBusiness · 27/03/2023 11:01

Not all children eat big breakfasts.

Newestname002 · 27/03/2023 11:02

I love snacks. It's like a comma in a sentence. There are always the unhealthy snacks (double chocolate muffin anyone?) but also healthy ones. An apple or banana and a few natural (uncooked, unsalted) nuts plus a hot drink, a small slice of wholemeal soda bread with a thin spread of peanut butter or a small helping of natural yoghurt or skyr (high protein/low fat) with strawberries, etc. 🌹

BaseballCrazy · 27/03/2023 11:02

I hope you only let them lick an apple and sniff some milk for breakfast, wouldn’t want them having too much and getting all fat. 😂

IHeartGeneHunt · 27/03/2023 11:03

Also fat and don't eat snacks. My daughter does and she's built like a string of spaghetti. She does a lot of sports activities and gets hungry. It's not very hard to understand really.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 27/03/2023 11:03

Some people prefer meals others prefer little and often. You're not superior for refusing to feed your kids some carrot sticks.

BaseballCrazy · 27/03/2023 11:04

Reddit are going to absolutely love this one. 😂😂😂

premicrois · 27/03/2023 11:05

You don't understand snacks?

Me neither. I tried to have a chat with my olives the other day but they just talked gobbledygook.

Couldn't understand a thing.

My DS gets very hangry. That is easily solved by giving him a banana.

😂 Quite!

Look OP, put simply, some people - and especially kids - need to eat more often than the typical 5ish hours between meals. Some people like to not be restricted by very close meal times, and bring along things to keep their kids going so they don't need to rush home for a meal. That can not come as any real surprise to you and makes me think you are being deliberately obtuse here.
