I don’t mean LTB, spa day etc, but links. Like to the Philip Larkin poem if someone is posting about their parents or to the Elle Beau blog every time someone mentions an MLM. I get fooled thinking it’s something new and interesting every time. There are others … what are there?

Yes!

I think they annoy me because every poster thinks they are being so original 🤣

Not a link but the phrase “comparison is the thief of joy” gets trotted out with depressing regularity.

Eudaimonia5 · 26/03/2023 09:21

The Freedom Programme (sp?)

Yes or stonewalling.

determinedtomakethiswork · 26/03/2023 09:23

There was a poster on here saying something about a wise old grandfather saying some cliche like there's nowt so queer as folk as though it was a truly original thing to say.

jellybeans4 · 26/03/2023 09:25

That fecking Lundy Bancroft book!

Yes or stonewalling.

I think these ones are worth repeating though. I hadn’t heard of them until I joined MN and it’s good for new posters to be given a name for what they’re experiencing.

I don't read that on here often. It is true though

SomePosters · 26/03/2023 09:37

I now what you mean, some posts crop up over and over like the ones moaning about how other people post, or the words and phrases they choose to use

it can get quite dull reading people whinge about how others should be allowed to express themselves on a huge public forum that owes them nothing

Beat me to it.

ilovesooty · 26/03/2023 09:39

And "when someone shows you who they are, believe them".

WandaWonder · 26/03/2023 09:46

Well there is book people can read about every single thing that has ever happened in life it seems according to people on here

"My child doesn't like carrots"

"You can read this 3000 page by R ABBIT called 'how to get your child to channel their inner bunny' "

There was a book called something like Why We Eat Too Much that people were obsessed with for a while. But I haven’t seen it mentioned lately.

How to talk so kids will listen as well.

Everyone you fall out with is ‘a narcissist’, especially if they are an ex. See also ‘gaslighter’ and ‘love bomber’.

Came on to say the same.

OlympicProcrastinator · 26/03/2023 09:51

On any thread about women’s safety, ‘Gavin De Becker’s, Gift Of Fear’.

It is good to be fair. But it’a been suggested on here so many times I’m pretty sure Mumsnet is solely responsible for its high sales.

LadyWithLapdog · 26/03/2023 09:53

I think people are trying to be helpful. It’s a bit off to mock them for not being original or using cliches.

TheCentreSlide · 26/03/2023 09:57

Yeah this is a snide thread.

The Lundy Bancroft book and the freedoms program are actually very helpful though. I was recommended them on here and they really did help.

And they always name change for them bizarrely.
