This is something me and ex MIL had in common. AIBU?

I never so much as allude to them .. let alone engage in that kind of activity ...

That is a sign of an unhealthy gut, you may need to improve your diet.

lalaloopyhead · 25/03/2023 20:28

I definitely childish,I don't know how to quote but 'back door breeze' made me laugh so much that it required an expliaintion to DH.

I am quite a windy person myself so one does feel the need to make (not set) light of such things ....

lanawinters · 25/03/2023 20:29

Hate it... and any fart jokes / humour. I love a good dirty joke and smutty sense of humour but the fart jokes - just no!

BattleofBeamfleot · 25/03/2023 20:30

It was "a rudie" in my house when I was little. My parents hated the word fart and couldn't bear to hear children saying it. But children love the grossest things and it didn't sound much better as "Urrrgh who did a rudie?!"

Dunnoburt · 25/03/2023 20:30

Anyone for creaky trousers? 😂

5128gap · 25/03/2023 20:30

I hate it and no one in my household says it. In truth I don't even see the need for the word, as its not something I ever feel the need to refer to.

Iloveabaconbutty · 25/03/2023 20:31

Boff

rachelvbwho · 25/03/2023 20:32

HATE the word fart, never said it growing up and it has just carried on now.

It just sounds like a gross and weirdly aggressive way to say it. We use the word trump in our house.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 25/03/2023 20:32

I don't like it either. It is the 'f word' in our house that no one should use!

DryIce · 25/03/2023 20:39

I don't love it, it's an awkward and weirdly taunting-sounding word.

But I find every alternative I've ever heard unbearably twee so fart it is!

Bonjovispjs · 25/03/2023 20:42

We said blow off growing up too I say fart now.

oakleaffy · 25/03/2023 20:49

toastofthetown · 25/03/2023 19:44

Farting is a bit gross and as such none of the terms referring to it are delightful. Last thread I read about the word fart someone suggested "bum puff" as an alternative which is truly ghastly.

''Bum Puff?'' ??

''Botty Burp'' is one I heard years ago.

Or {One which made me laugh} A chap said ''Oops, I trod on a frog!''

Callipygion · 25/03/2023 20:53

I remember when I was at school (so about 14/15 maybe) with my friends, looking up rude words in the dictionary in the school library. It still sticks in my head that the definition of fart was “a gust of wind between the legs” 🤣🤣

Hahaha! 'That's brilliant! That could be a 'Queef' OR a botty puff.

I must admit this thread had made me laugh out loud! ''Creaky trousers''!

I didn't know it was actually possible to set light to gaseous emissions until I was a student and saw it done.

A ragged flap of orange flame ignited the lad's posterior for a second, before extinguishing.

whatthehelldowecare · 25/03/2023 21:04

It was the one word that was completely forbidden in my house growing up, f-word and c-word would have been more tolerated than fart 😂

SecondhandMuck · 25/03/2023 21:05

It may not be a pretty word but it's a word that perfectly fits the act it describes.

But botty burps, and trumps, and windypops and similar words that Hyacinth Bucket types find preferable are truly fucking offensive.

Takeoutyourhen · 25/03/2023 21:05

Trod on a frog. I’ve got tears of laughter now and DO has reminded me to breathe.
Pomp was my parent’s choice during my childhood. Realising there were other names was a revelation!

SecondhandMuck · 25/03/2023 21:08

In Scotland to pump means to fuck. So I always find that one quite coarse.

<dabs embroidered handkerchief to brow>

legalseagull · 25/03/2023 19:48

It was close to a swear word in my house growing up in the 80's and 90's. I think I'm pretty alone I'm not liking it now though. I ask my kids to say 'trump' instead - completely irrational as it means exactly the same thing and 'fart' isn't offensive

A swear word?? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Blueeyes13 · 25/03/2023 21:17

We used to use blow off or pip when I was young. Our kids used windypop when they were little. It's been pop for quite a while. Although, recently daughter has started calling them love puffs after the dog did one in her face!! That is starting to stick now 🤣

Mexicola · 25/03/2023 21:35

Gruff.

Iloveabaconbutty · 25/03/2023 21:41

"Who's cut the cheese?" was used at my boarding school.

Stressybetty · 25/03/2023 21:50

We stay fart but in a funny voice. Funny when one of the dogs does it, looks surprised and turns and looks or sniffs their bum like where did that come from?
