To get really fucking irritated when people constantly interrupt me

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:01

Really pisses me off. Shut the fuck up until I have finished my sentence. I f I wait until they have finished talking, which I obviously do as I dont interrupt people, it is a one sided conversation.

I might as well put a cardboard cut out there and go and do the stuff I need to get on with.

Most people love being interrupted. Not.
What's the AIBU?

catchthedog · 25/03/2023 10:03

is this one specific person or a lot? if it's a lot, maybe you ramble on too much 😆

Paq · 25/03/2023 10:07

Do you talk very slowly, ramble or pause a lot?

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:08

@catchthedog Its quite a lot, I have always had this issue!

I get told I am such a good listener, I am because I am genuinely interested in people so I ask appropriate questions and listen to the answers.

If I answer a question I often get interrupted with the persons own version of what Im talking about.

I hear you. You need to raise your hand a little and say very clearly, ‘may I finish?’.

That said I know I do it sometimes- a thought pings into my head and I need to ask instantly but it’s almost always related to what they are saying..sometimes that’s how conversations evolve.

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:09

@Paq no, I am concise and definitely dont talk slowly.

OP posts:
mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:10

@MatildaTheCat Yes I agree with your post, with a certain family member and a close friend the conversation bounces around equally. And we do interject at times.

MatildaTheCat · 25/03/2023 10:11

That said my best friend jumps in and guesses the end of my sentences all the time. I am irritated by it but now just treat it as a joke because she’s ALWAYS wrong.

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:13

@MatildaTheCat 😂😂Yes Ive had that too!

Why are some people so desperate to hear their own voice, I guess it can be nervousness sometimes so I shouldn't get so irritated.

shakeitoffsis · 25/03/2023 10:13

My friend also hates this happening to her but she tells the longest most annoying tales sometimes so it's her own fault 😂

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:18

@shakeitoffsis Ok so at some point she has to be interrupted! Fair enough 😂

OP posts:
TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 25/03/2023 10:21

I am at the point where I continue to say what I was saying but I raise my voice a few decibels and don’t stop until I’m finished.

QueefQueen80s · 25/03/2023 10:29

Who is doing this OP?

I had a friend like this.

She'd come round for a coffee, start talking about a movie she's watched and then tell me very single thing that happened and would get annoyed if I tried to change the subject.

She didn't understand that either I'm not interested in that movie or if I am id rather not know the whole plot before seeing it 😂

Once after she'd told me a long story about something her boyfriend had done, I sympathised and said id been through similar with a previous boyfriend to which she replied "but I don't want to talk about you I want to talk about me" 😂 it was never a 2 way conversation she'd just come round to talk at me 🤦‍♀️

ChrisPPancake · 25/03/2023 10:40

I've got round this before with a "Zip it! It's my turn to talk now!" but I was in a shitter of a mood that day and couldn't be doing with it. Person concerned has let me finish ever since so it clearly had an effect Grin

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:46

@QueefQueen80s Work colleagues , some family members, friends and many people that I have known in the past.

It does seem to have become a theme in my life!😂

@ChrisPPancake I like that! I may try it as it has a jokey tone and is nicer than STFU I guess.

I hear you!
It's so bloody rude, I know several people who do this.
This along with noisy eating are the only things that make me scream!!!

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 10:49

@TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl I did try that once but we just ended up both talking a the same time and it was ridiculous. I kept it up for about 20 seconds which doesn't sound long but with both of us talking over each other I stopped and she continued as if I had never started🙄

OP posts:
Brightshinylight · 25/03/2023 10:51

Yep, I get this. You listen to their 20 minute monologue, show an interest but they cannot even be bothered to give you 2 minutes to talk.

TheEliminator · 25/03/2023 10:58

We used to have this with the kids. We just used to say, ‘I haven’t finished yet, please wait your turn’. We found that by extending the same courtesy to them, the message got across eventually. It took me a while to get the nerve to do it to adults but now I’m older, I care less what others think. They’re actually the rude ones for interrupting, not me. Unless they’re interrupting to tell me the building is on fire then there’s no good reason. This is why I introduced a hands up rule only in the meetings I chair via Teams. Don’t like it, tough 😆

BellaJuno · 25/03/2023 11:17

Try saying “sorry, did the middle of my sentence interrupt the start of yours?”

ChrisPPancake · 25/03/2023 11:19

GrinGrinGrin

ChrisPPancake · 25/03/2023 11:19

That's was supposed to quote @BellaJuno post!

mrsfennel · 25/03/2023 11:20

@TheEliminator thats a really good rule, especially making sure kids are listened to in return.

STFU was definitely what I was thinking. I think it had more of an effect because I'm usually a passive wouldn't say boo to a goose kind of person.
