So we live in a block of flats. Our buzzer just rang as our neighbours had forgotten their keys so could I buzz them in. I replied with "for fucks sake"'and let them in, they woke me DH and DCs and apparently I'm in the wrong. I'll be up at 7am tomorrow (well today I guess)?to take one DC to sports so AIBU to knock on their door then to check that have their keys in case they need to get in while we're out?

I would be fuming too! But try to let it go otherwise you won’t sleep the rest of the night because you will be raging.

I hope you’re just joking about knocking on their door - admittedly it would be sweet karma but please don’t. It’s not worth adding fuel to the fire. just speak to them calmly when you do see them and ask them to buzz someone else who doesn’t have kids next time.

some people are really selfish.

IHaveNoSpecialTalent · 25/03/2023 04:37

I know you're right but I'm sleep deprived and dealing with a lot of stress right now so early morning karma is very appealing.

You know people with kids have things to get up for too right? Or do they not count?

GoodChat · 25/03/2023 07:10

These things happen. They're not worth starting an argument about.

timeforchampagne · 25/03/2023 07:12

it it happens weekly yanbu

if it’s never happened before it’s shit but you never know you might have a sims or predicament at some point and need their help

To be fair, you’re right!

whodafucisalice · 25/03/2023 07:13

As annoying as it is I'd let it go but if you have their number maybe text them and say you're sorry for swearing and is there a way they can put a plan in place to avoid it happening again. I'd end with telling them you like flowers, chocolates and wine Blush

Lcb123 · 25/03/2023 07:15

As a one off, let it go. The risk of living in a flat. Our flat has a ‘do not disturb’ on the buzzer so maybe check if yours does

nowaworriedmum · 25/03/2023 07:15

If it's happening all the time then it needs addressing with them. If not, I'd let it go.

Maybe mention to them that they've woke the kids up so buzz someone else next time.

IglesiasPiggl · 25/03/2023 07:21

If it was a one-off then let it go - I'm not sure what else they could have done? If it's a habit then definitely not acceptable though.

PoseyFlump · 25/03/2023 07:34

@IHaveNoSpecialTalent why did they buzz you and not another flat? Is it because they consider you a friend or a soft touch?

HoneyPotBee · 25/03/2023 07:42

What would you have said to them if you went down in the morning and saw them sitting out in the cold because they didn’t want to buzz anyone’s door last night?

I’m genuinely interested.

ThinWomansBrain · 25/03/2023 07:43

I live on the ground floor, so frequently disturbed by delivery drivers for other people, postmen.... people that forget keys tend to use the WhatsApp group.

Irritating - but on the plus side, other people let in deliveries for me when I'm not home.

Maybe they did try others and nobody else answered

PoseyFlump · 25/03/2023 07:57

That's true! @GoodChat

Figmentof · 25/03/2023 08:00

I think there was no need to swear at them. It is hardly the end of the world, did you really want them to sit outside all night.

callthataspade · 25/03/2023 08:02

Do you have a switch to turn your buzzer off? I used to live in a flat. We'd just turn it off at night. The light flashed but it didn't make a noise.

But yeah. Unless they bring some chocolates and flowers to apologise they're twats

I can understand ur frustration like another poster suggested maybe u can switch off ur buzzer so u can't hear it before u and ur family go to bed to sleep.

IHaveNoSpecialTalent · 25/03/2023 15:31

Just back in. It took a lot of willpower but I didn't knock as we were leaving this morning.
They only moved in a couple of months ago so don't know them other than to say hello if we happen to bump into each other. No idea if they tried other flats.
The switch to turn the buzzer off broke a long time ago but is now a priority to get fixed!
I doubt they'll come round to apologise. I'll put it down to a drunken one off but heaven help them if it happens again.

In that case i would speak to them when i see them and explain at least they can have some understanding why u acted the way u did ( i would to tbh) the day they buzzed ur buzzer.

Good point. Thought they forgot their keys?

Zooeyzo · 25/03/2023 16:29

Why are you in the wrong? Have they or DH said something? Must have been friends of your neighbours if they don't have keys
