Do any texts give you the rage?

I have always hated my name being used in texts!

But now it's the reply of 'right ok'

AIBU?? Do you have any texts that set you on fire....!?

BadNomad · 25/03/2023 01:51

"Oh ok"
"It's fine. Ttyl."
"Sure whatever"
"Yeah ok"

Passive-aggressive moody dicks basically.

JMSA · 25/03/2023 02:06

The passive-aggressive ??? when I don't reply quickly enough. It drives me mad.

Youngest teenage daughter, I am looking at you Angry

The thumbs up emoji. I hate it. It's literally saying "I don't care"

Oh same here. I hate the thumbs up emoji with a passion.

wandawaves · 25/03/2023 02:51

People who send seperate texts one after the other when it could have been sent in one text. So I end up getting so many notifications in a row. It's even more annoying when I'm driving as the car can't cope and only reads the last text.

jelly79 · 25/03/2023 06:58

OutDamnedSpot · 24/03/2023 22:47

Voice notes instead of texts. It just says ‘my time is more important than yours’

Yes!! My sister always starts her voice notes with 'I know you hate these but I'm so busy!'

Thumbs up emoji
Kisses at the end of every text. I was seeing someone and first he'd put one kiss, then it was two, then three. He now puts 4 on every text and we aren't even seeing each other any more, just friends. Drives me mad.
Another person I text with frequently insists on putting his name at the end of texts, as if I don't know who I'm texting with 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh I feel heard!!!

'No worries'
'I'll leave you to it'

And then think there is nothing wrong with that!

See a 👍🏼 to me it's just a good emoji!

It means ok! Understood. Yep. See you there etc.

I don't get the hatred for the poor thumb

saltwater1985 · 25/03/2023 07:25

Also no worries 😆

Everyone must hate me 😆😆😆

adhdpunchbag · 25/03/2023 07:25

Me too. It's quick and easy. Better than not replying at all.

"See you at 12"
👍

What's wrong with that?

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 25/03/2023 07:27

I also don’t mind the thumb but won’t even listen to voice notes 90% of the time. No one else needs to hear what someone’s saying about their daughter or mother in law and I’m usually with people (or checking messages out of camera shot on a teams message).

Mumsnutt · 25/03/2023 07:30

The thumbs up accounts for 75% of all my responses. But I'm not into pointless chitty-chatty.

Same! I didn't know people hate the thumb. It's used a lot in group chats I'm in.

I use it all the time…‘that’s fine’ ‘sounds great’ literally the opposite of ‘I don’t care’

saltwater1985 · 25/03/2023 07:41

My friends who hate the thumb know I'm not being sarcastic (I've had to tell them!).

I CBA with long essay texts.

Ring me if you want a chat!

JanesSadLittleLife · 25/03/2023 07:42

"Can do."

It means whatever I've just spent ages deliberating and deciding upon because the other person "doesn't mind", isn't what they would want but meh, whatever. So dismissive!

I use the thumb emoji just to say yep, understood - without the need to continue a protracted text marathon. I didn't know it was considered sarcastic!

You see I get this context! If you are making an arrangement and it's a confirmation of understood or agree. Its when you maybe give an opinion about something it seems dismissive

BadNomad · 25/03/2023 07:53

Yeah, I always read the 'thumbs up' as "I can't be bothered to type anything". It shuts down the conversation. Same as when people use the shrug emoji. What am I supposed to say in reply to that??

Actually, I hate all emojis when used on their own. I have one particular friend who does it a lot. I'll say something funny (in context of the conversation) and she'll reply with a laughing emoji. Nothing else. I don't know what to do! Is that the end of the convo? Have I annoyed her? AND my DP has a habit of responding with just a heart. He thinks he's just being sweet. I'm thinking "Um ok. That's helpful. Not."

Maybe I need to start responding with a thumbs up.

WandaWonder · 25/03/2023 08:02

Thankfully not as common now, well to me anyway, but I can't stand people writing in text speak/code

I don't care on misspelling but if I can't read it I can't understand it

Mumsnutt · 25/03/2023 08:08

Yeah, I always read the 'thumbs up' as "I can't be bothered to type anything". It shuts down the conversation

That's precisely what it means. Not everyone enjoys conversing via text. Some of us just use it for short exchanges of information. That doesn't make it 'passive aggressive '. If someone I was talking to face to face gave me a strong hint that they'd prefer to end the conversation, I'd take notice, not carry on yakking.
