Hiding from window cleaner - lighthearted!

desertcalippo · 22/03/2023 13:59

Just a lighthearted thread for a bit of a giggle!

Does anyone else hide from the window cleaner? I am in my mid thirties and a fully functioning normal (!) adult. I am currently on mat leave so at home most of the time when they come.

Today I sat on the stairs with my daughter so they couldn't see me. I don't know why I just find it so awkward 😂😩

Does anyone else hide away or do you sit there and happily make eye contact as they squeegee your windows?

I can identify with that!

Anyone else also grab ‘mess’ and shove it behind the bed so when he looks in the room it looks tidy…? 🤣

I also sat on the stairs to hide last time ours was here 😂😂 Thought it was only me being weird.

I just don't know what to do with myself when they're here so after saying hello, I hide on the stairs till they leave 😂

doodlyfiddly · 22/03/2023 14:15

Not just you! I can't stand being viewed in my own home - I hate any work being done outside (or inside for that matter!). I can't relax.
When the window cleaner came last week, I was tidying a room, so closed the door, shut the curtains and carried on, whilst he did the windows. He wouldn't have known I was in.

Justme10 · 22/03/2023 14:16

Yep I hide in the toilet so they don't see me, it's just so awkward!

When DS was about 2/3 he would stand at the windows waving, shouting hello and banging the windows! So embarrassing but it gave the window cleaner a laugh Grin

TheRookieMum · 22/03/2023 14:17

Of course I hide! What do people do of they don't?? Wave, chat, carry on ignoring them...? I can't deal with the social pressure of any of that.

dietcokelime · 22/03/2023 14:18

I wave at mine if I'm in the back rooms (two sets of French doors and some floor to ceiling windows means I can't hide!). If I'm upstairs he uses a pole so I don't have to worry 😂

Verylongtime · 22/03/2023 14:21

If only I could find a window cleaner, I’d be so grateful I’d be falling over myself to greet them, provide tea and biscuits etc. I don’t know how people afford them.

Magenta82 · 22/03/2023 14:42

Mine uses a water-fed pole so doesn't look in. But before I realised that, I used to draw all the curtains.

You have cheered me up today and I needed it 😂

DidyouNO · 22/03/2023 14:45

They clean our upstairs window with a pole so I stay upstairs out of sight 😂

TellHimDirectlyInDetail · 22/03/2023 14:47

I stare at them but they never look back at me.

cocksstrideintheevening · 22/03/2023 14:50

I shut down all the shutters when I hear them getting the stuff out of the van. I'm with you op.

desertcalippo · 22/03/2023 15:02

@PeanutButterOnTheGrain hahaha that tickled me

Mine is done as part of the management fee I pay for my apartment
Costs a small fortune AngrySad

Hollyhocksandlarkspur · 22/03/2023 15:23

I once came out of our ground floor ensuite into the bedroom starkers and face to face with the window cleaner😳Stupidly I grabbed the curtain to quickly wrap myself in and hide not thinking that I would then have to stay next to the window right next to him until he had finished. Was v embarrassed when I paid him!

Annoyingwurringnoise · 22/03/2023 15:25

mine uses a pole so I stay up there. He’s been today actually.

nowaworriedmum · 22/03/2023 15:26

I do the same with my neighbours sometimes. If I see them come back in their car or going out at the same time as me, I'll hang back.

Not always but sometimes. They are very nice and we get on but sometimes I just can't be arsed 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 Weird, I know!

cupofteaandabiccyplease · 22/03/2023 15:32

now can identify with that, our elderly neighbour peeps around his partially open kitchen door if he hears us. If we don't say anything he will quietly shut it. Normally it is slammed shut. Quite amusing really, he's nice enough but as you say I don't always feel like talking.

Shamsterdam · 22/03/2023 15:41

My window cleaner is really lovely but talks for ages so I try not to go out and chat. If it's hot I'll offer a cold drink, if not I'll just wave and move to another part of the house. I don't particularly want to be looked at if I'm lounging about, but if I'm doing something like tidying, cooking etc in view I'll just keep on doing it. I think part of it is if I'm doing nothing then I feel really lazy that someone is doing a job I could potentially do myself and don't want to be seen just sitting about!

desertcalippo · 22/03/2023 15:47

@Bunnyhascovidnoteggs 😂 I was at least decent with boobs away!

@nowaworriedmum I do the same as well! My neighbours are perfectly nice too but sometimes just cannot be arsed with small talk.
