To not want to give up Narnia?

dobermeister · 21/03/2023 10:48

When DD was a toddler I created a Narnia in her room. Basically there was an adjoining room from her bedroom, I removed the door, put a wardrobe on either side, and made the other room into Narnia. It has snowy woodland painted on all the walls, a bookcase, cushions on the floor and is basically a “snug”. DD adores in still and is always in there.

DH now wants to get rid of Narnia and turn it into a storeroom for DDs stuff. This is totally unnecessary as we have 3 other spare bedrooms as well as a cellar.

DD wants to keep Narnia. DH thinks it’s babyish and a waste of space as her bedroom is already a big room.

His issue is that his kids don’t have stuff like this at their mum’s house but that’s not mine or DDs fault is it?!

What do you think?

She might be 35 though 😂

I'm 60, & I would LOVE OP's Narnia off my bedroom.

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 21/03/2023 12:22

Does he often double check with his ex what your dd is allowed?

YANBU. I'm an adult and I'd love a Narnia bedroom.

Same here

If literally his only reason to get rid of narnia is to have more storage but surely she does store most of her stuff in her bedroom anyway? I can't work out how much extra stuff a child would need to be kept stored, it just seems a bit weird for that to be his reasoning. Can't you either have a sort out or buy something that will fit into the narnia theme (a big wooden trunk or just use the 2 wardrobes) and move what ever is in the outbuilding that's annoying him so much into narnia/her bedroom?

He is being unreasonable but it is also a bit ott for a child to essentially have 2 bedrooms and still need to store more stuff elsewhere in the house.

I really like the big wooden trunk idea, and depending on where the OP lives she might be able to pick up a bargain on ebay, as there tends to be a more limited market for stuff that requires collection. I suppose it really depends what kind of stuff there is in the outbuilding that needs shifting whether that's a practical solution.

Narnia all the way as far as I'm concerned..... there's too little magick in the world and things created with love are precious.

I'm 54, I am at work in my shop, actually dressed as a witch so this is how seriously I take it....

Also #TeamNarnia 🥰

I love all things witchy and magical.
I would love to dressed up as a witch sitting in my little piece of Narnia.

I am 42Smile

Also to add, if you daughter has children in the future, you will be the favourite grandma by miles! Wink

BramleyAppleHotCrossBun · 21/03/2023 12:31

I'd get rid of the DH before getting rid of Narnia. I want a Narnia!!

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 21/03/2023 12:32

I want this so much. YA so NBU.

Depends how old she is.

Why? I'm an adult and would love this.

TidyDancer · 21/03/2023 12:33

I am late 30s and would love this, just adding my voice to the unanimous verdict on this one!

strawberry2017 · 21/03/2023 12:33

I don't understand his logic, it dies t sound like the space is needed - keep Narnia!

strawberry2017 · 21/03/2023 12:33

** doesn't

MistressoftheDarkSide · 21/03/2023 12:33

@pheonixrebirth

I was 42 when my life changed very suddenly and I ended up on the path that lead me here - it's not been without challenges but I'm convinced it's where I'm meant to be.....

Do what brings you joy (and harm ye none 😘)

Life is short - why shouldn't it be fun when it can be?

Age should be no barrier to awe and wonder.....🥰

Opal2022 · 21/03/2023 12:33

It sounds so amazing and I think your DH is being unreasonable. Keep Narnia for as long as possible, it sounds like a beautiful idea, and let it be the magical place it is for your daughter, she will have such lovely memories. As other posters have already said - I’d love it at my age !

augustusglupe · 21/03/2023 12:35

My DD is 34 and if she'd had a room like that growing up I'd keep it for her forever.

Infact, I'd never move house!! Narnia sounds amazing OP 😍

dobermeister · 21/03/2023 10:59

We have an outbuilding which is used as a big store room so storage isn’t as issue.

His kids rarely visit now as they’re late teens but they have a double bedroom each when they do visit. Admittedly they’re not decorated as “their” rooms, they’re just generic guest rooms but that’s on DH. I told him to decorate them when his kids were younger but he couldn’t be arsed.

He didn’t decorate their rooms for them? And now he wants to take something from your daughter unnecessarily?

What a nice guy. 🤔

takeawayandwine · 21/03/2023 12:17

She might be 35 though 😂

I’m 35 and I would crawl into Narnia with a book and a blanket like a little cosy gremlin.

I don’t get the arbitrary age limits people place on things like this.

lunar1 · 21/03/2023 12:37

Is he her dad? It sounds like he wants to take it away just to be nasty to be honest.

DontLikeMenthols · 21/03/2023 12:37

takeawayandwine · 21/03/2023 12:17

She might be 35 though 😂

You sound cut from the same cloth as the DH! So what if she was 35? Surely the point is whether she still uses and enjoys it? It sounds like she does so that’s the decider. If it was left to gather dust and the family desperately needed another room
for something useful then fair enough.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/03/2023 12:38

I want a Narnia too. 35 years after I first read it!

Absolutely!

dobermeister · 21/03/2023 11:02

Exactly! When I told him to decorate their rooms he said it just looks like we’re showing off!?

Pffft the snow queen will get him and turn his heart to ice…. Miserable sod. Chuck him in the outbuilding and lock him in til he’s thawed. He can build some more storage units to keep warm/busy/pre-occupied enough to stop moaning about something that doesn’t affect him 🤣

Gablonz · 21/03/2023 12:45

Is he her Dad? It just seems a bit odd to be honest. It's not harming anyone as his own kids have their own rooms (and he's the one who couldn't be arsed to decorate for them).
Has DD so much stuff in the outbuilding and wherever which is causing a space issue? Because if she has, maybe it is time to declutter that.
But I certainly wouldn't get rid of the Narnia - when she grows out of it the room can be turned into a study. I had a study when I was growing up (only child, large house), and I loved it - had a desk area, TV area, beanbags and so on.

diddl · 21/03/2023 12:50

Even if it gets used as her study it can stay as Narnia if she wants.

Honestly if you can store her stuff elsewhere & use the room as a room why wouldn't you?

Novatherova · 21/03/2023 12:53

Dump him, keep narnia, move me in.

Sounds amazing.
