To not want to give up Narnia?

dobermeister · 21/03/2023 10:48

When DD was a toddler I created a Narnia in her room. Basically there was an adjoining room from her bedroom, I removed the door, put a wardrobe on either side, and made the other room into Narnia. It has snowy woodland painted on all the walls, a bookcase, cushions on the floor and is basically a “snug”. DD adores in still and is always in there.

DH now wants to get rid of Narnia and turn it into a storeroom for DDs stuff. This is totally unnecessary as we have 3 other spare bedrooms as well as a cellar.

DD wants to keep Narnia. DH thinks it’s babyish and a waste of space as her bedroom is already a big room.

His issue is that his kids don’t have stuff like this at their mum’s house but that’s not mine or DDs fault is it?!

What do you think?

I would have loved this as a child (and even now in my 50's). Please post photos. I'm now wondering how I can reconfigure my 2 spare rooms..... 😄

Foxglove22 · 21/03/2023 11:52

Sounds amazing. As long as your DD wants to keep it, keep it. They grow up so quickly so hang on to the magic as long as possible. My almost 9-year-old still has the curtains with cute woodland animals on them that I got made especially for him when he was born and there has been no talk of getting rid of those!

SaturdayGiraffe · 21/03/2023 11:52

He sounds like a complete killjoy

Madcats · 21/03/2023 11:52

OP, and I have a DD(15), keep Narian! It sounds amazing. I secretly hope you had some (fake) fur coats for her to walk through!

She will really appreciate that extra space as a teen - perhaps not with a snowscape, but with fairy lights and beanbags.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 21/03/2023 11:52

If he thinks things are unfair, the answer wouldn't be to take something away from DD, but to make his kids' rooms nicer! What a doughnut.

The DD's age seems rather pertinent here but the OP seems unwilling to divulge it.

Why is it pertinent?

She likes it. He doesn't because he can't be arsed to do anything nice for his kids.

FilthyforFirth · 21/03/2023 11:53

Just here for the pic. Don't let us down OP!

piedbeauty · 21/03/2023 11:53

Oh wow, this sounds amazing. I would have LOVED a Narnia in my room. Still would, in fact.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 21/03/2023 11:54

Everyone needs a Narnia…

piedbeauty · 21/03/2023 11:55

All you need to know is that your dd still loves it and spends time in there.

Your h is being massively unreasonable. The set-up for his kids at their mum's house is nothing to do with you, and if he wants to, he get can off his arse and decorate their rooms at your house.

littlemousebigcheese · 21/03/2023 11:56

Keep narnia, get rid of him

oceanbleu · 21/03/2023 11:57

Keep narnia!

youmustbemad · 21/03/2023 11:57

As soon as my kids leave home I'm doing this for myself. YANBU, your H sounds kind of mean-spirited.

Because if they're in their late teens as opposed to, say, 5 then yeah, I don't think the DH is being that outrageous. I get that this is MN and the DH is usually wrong but more context to posts is always a good thing regardless.

ginnybag · 21/03/2023 11:59

My DD is 13, and would absolutely love this. As would her friends, as would both DH and I.

Her age is irrelevant. She has a magical thing that you created for her, why would you ever take that away unless you absolutely have to? Tell your DH to stuff it.

viques · 21/03/2023 12:00

Keep Narnia. If you ever sell it will be the thing that sells your house to the right people. Though the new owners won’t thank you if they have more than one literate child ………

fruitbrewhaha · 21/03/2023 12:01

I'm just here for the photo

RobertsRadio · 21/03/2023 12:01

Team Narnia all the way.

Tell DH to never, ever set foot in Narnia ever again or the White Witch will turn him to stone.

RosaBonheur · 21/03/2023 12:02

If you don't need the space elsewhere and your DD wants to keep Narnia, keep Narnia!

Your husband is being horrible.

Hollyhocksandlarkspur · 21/03/2023 12:03

Wow love this thread. What an amazing gift you gave to DD. Narnia needs to stay!

Marsyas · 21/03/2023 12:04

Because if they're in their late teens as opposed to, say, 5 then yeah, I don't think the DH is being that outrageous

But why? If she likes it and there is no need for extra storage?

golddustwomen · 21/03/2023 12:04

Keep it!

Even when she's grown and moved out KEEP IT.

We need a photo op Grin

Beetlewings · 21/03/2023 12:04

KEEP NARNIA!

GoodChat · 21/03/2023 12:04

@lazycats but she uses it as a snug - somewhere to chill out. Why would you take that away from her if she enjoys it and there's plenty of space in the house?

Parsley1234 · 21/03/2023 12:04

Here for the photos it sounds amazing ♥️
