To think work are being ridiculous

Dolphin8765 · 19/03/2023 09:52

For work the main lanyard we are issued is a purple wire thin lanyard (photo attached). Myself and some other colleagues don’t like thin lanyards like that. The only other lanyard we are issued is wider like a normal lanyard, it’s a pride lanyard with the company logo on. We’ve asked work if we can buy and use our own lanyard and we were told. Aibu to think work are being a bit strict and ridiculous? What difference does it make if we use our own lanyard?

@adriftinadenofvipers I work for myself - a tip I’d give anyone who doesn’t like uniforms !

Is a lanyard even uniform I don’t know ?

As the op is saying they have to wear them then I would say yes it's part of the uniform

Although not sure which airline she works for as I was unable to find that particular lanyard online

Dolphin8765 · 19/03/2023 16:41

I’ll try and take a photo of the pride/rainbow lanyard later to show what the alternative is. I’ll have to take it from far away though so you can’t see the company logo or try and scribble out the logo.

Agree that the comparison with the swastika is repulsive. In any case, no one is having the rainbow lanyard forced on them. The OP has said she doesn't like the standard one.

TRAs compare anyone who questions their ideology to "Nazis" on a regular basis.

A poster here makes a valid comment and you complain.

It is a political stance - just as fascism is - and shouldn't be forced on people.

Top tip then - don't do a job that involved the wearing of a uniform.

Problem solved for you right there,

A lanyard isn't a "uniform", per se. It is a cord use to hold an identification - it really shouldn't matter what it is, as long as the identification is valid, and it is not uncomfortable to wear..

Comparing the rainbow flag to the swastika is utterly offensive and wrong, doubly so given that gay people were specifically targeted by the Nazis

If you want to complain about other people using offensive Nazi comparisons, go ahead, but that does not make it ok. I mean FFS does this really need to be said.

GlassBunion · 19/03/2023 17:06

As you're cabin crew then you'll have a very strict uniform policy.
I think you'll just have to accept it.

In my previous job, lanyards were required but an awful lot of bending down was required. The lanyards kept getting in the way and got caught.
A number of us asked if we could wear retractable ones on a belt or side pocket.

You could ask for one of those possibly but I doubt you can if your uniform policy is strict.

Rosula · 19/03/2023 17:09

How can anyone get that bothered about the cord used on a lanyard?

Stressybetty · 19/03/2023 17:10

Thin ones can rub your neck and cause skin tags, happened to me after years of wearing. We can choose our own luckily. Was issued with a short one originally which didn't suit big boobs and bought a longer navy one. If no choice at work though just wear whichever is most comfortable.

Rosula · 19/03/2023 17:10

Dolphin8765 · 19/03/2023 10:00

I don’t like wire thin lanyards which the purple one is

We can all see for ourselves that it isn't wire thin.

If you object that much, use the Pride one.

Do they? If they do, it doesn't mean that the comparison made here is OK, in my opinion.

That poster evidently isn't going to take that on board. She describes it as "a valid point". Utterly repulsive attitude.

Yes you were right

So hate speech is just 'entitled to our own opinions'

Hard to believe its 2023 and people are still pulling this shit

Ktime · 19/03/2023 18:30

YANBU. Cabin Crew are too controlled. Do you have to wear a lanyard? I have sensory issues so hate them touching my neck. I use one of clips attached to my belt loop.

rwalker · 19/03/2023 19:16

Soontobe60 · 19/03/2023 11:18

Some people may have hypersensitive skin, so a thin lanyard may irritate them more. I find thin lanyards very irritating - that’s not being petty.
Others may not agree to wearing something that has particular political connotations. The only type of lanyard I would wear to indicate any political leanings would be a suffragette colours one.

No issues apart from the fact she doesn’t like it so your comment irrelevant

SpringIntoChaos · 19/03/2023 20:13

Complete non-issue!! 🤦‍♀️

She said she doesn’t like thin lanyards. Why have you assumed that means she has no issues with them? How rude to call her post irrelevant, she makes a valid point.

Codlingmoths · 19/03/2023 21:55

I can see why this is an issue. What about the suggestion to braid 3 purple ones together? In some cases the company really would be at fault if they didn’t let you use another lanyard, sensory issues could be a bar with the purple one and not everyone wants to wear a rainbow one (NOT because they are anti lgbt but because quite a lot of people think it’s been overrun by trans rights and is no longer supportive of the g and the L in particular as well as is silencing women)

SmartestGiantInCity · 19/03/2023 21:58

Could you be allergic to the purple one hence needing an alternative?

MumOf2workOptions · 19/03/2023 22:01

discobrain · 19/03/2023 09:56

You're being completely unreasonable, it's a lanyard. It doesn't matter.

Exactly this
How can anyone get worked up about a lanyard?

Cheeseandlobster · 19/03/2023 22:03

Oh god. Grow up. Some of us have real problems. Jeez

DashboardConfessional · 19/03/2023 22:05

This is the weirdest thing I've read on here today.

If I had 99 problems, the thickness of my lanyard would not be one.

RosaBonheur · 19/03/2023 22:11

MelchiorsMistress · 19/03/2023 10:49

Why? I can’t see what’s so hard to understand unless they’re being deliberately obtuse like many others on this thread.

OP wants to be able to wear a comfortable lanyard at work without having her personal opinions on things advertised on it. It’s not much to ask.

Not even her own personal opinion, but that of her employer.
