AIBU?
To think work are being ridiculous
Dolphin8765 · 19/03/2023 09:52
For work the main lanyard we are issued is a purple wire thin lanyard (photo attached). Myself and some other colleagues don’t like thin lanyards like that. The only other lanyard we are issued is wider like a normal lanyard, it’s a pride lanyard with the company logo on. We’ve asked work if we can buy and use our own lanyard and we were told. Aibu to think work are being a bit strict and ridiculous? What difference does it make if we use our own lanyard?

Am I being unreasonable?

I get you, OP. Thin lanyards dig into you and it rubs and hurts. And I wouldn't wear a Pride lanyard.
I would get a wider purple one. Can't you all chip in and get a load and all just come into work with them? What can they do if you all protest?
How on earth are you wearing your lanyard in order for it to 'dig in'?

I’m the same as you OP, I wouldn’t choose to wear a pride lanyard but would prefer to wear a thicker one than the one in the picture just for comfort.
The company can’t say it’s all about uniform and easily identifying who is who if you have free choice between two completely different lanyards. I’d buy your own plain purple one and wait to see if they complain.

Depends what you carry on your lanyard - I used to have a couple of bunches of work keys, ID badge, work multitool, hand sanitiser and card holder (for my debit card and swipe card) because my uniform didn't have pockets except in the fleece jacket that I didn't want to have to carry around just for storage - so it could get pretty hefty and a thin lanyard would have started to dig in the back of my neck after a while.
Having said that, the OP is being ridiculous - if work require you to wear specific lanyards then it is part of the uniform standard. They have two options of lanyards, the thin purple one or the wider pride (by which I assume it is a rainbow) one ... Choosing one or the other is not a fashion statement so why does it matter? Everyone at work knows you only have the two options so if you're wearing the rainbow one then it's because it's the wide one and more comfortable

I don’t, and we have rainbow lanyards.
I wear the rainbow one because it’s nicer than the plain ones at work. I do support pride but I don’t consciously wear the rainbow one in solidarity with anyone I just think it’s prettier.
this is such a non issue though. What a reason to start a post!
