AIBU?
To think work are being ridiculous
Dolphin8765 · 19/03/2023 09:52
For work the main lanyard we are issued is a purple wire thin lanyard (photo attached). Myself and some other colleagues don’t like thin lanyards like that. The only other lanyard we are issued is wider like a normal lanyard, it’s a pride lanyard with the company logo on. We’ve asked work if we can buy and use our own lanyard and we were told. Aibu to think work are being a bit strict and ridiculous? What difference does it make if we use our own lanyard?

Am I being unreasonable?

You’re crew? I assumed you worked in an office or something and even then were being ridiculous. If you’re crew it’s part of the uniform and also a safety thing, official lanyards will have been tested so that the quick release clasps that come off easily if a passenger tries to grab you. Any old lanyard might put crew at risk hence they are not allowed.

You still haven’t said what issue is being caused by the lanyard being “thin” OP? Presumably if you’re cabin crew you’re not wearing a tee shirt but rather something with a collar - so you can wear the lanyard over your clothes if it’s a “digging into your neck” issue. But to be honest unless someone is swinging off it I can’t see how it would dig in anyway?

Lot's of people do. I used to support gay pride though
Whyisitsososohard · 19/03/2023 10:33
Sounds like you have a specific issue regarding being seen to support pride.
Same here.
Unfortunately pride has become so associated with trans rights that deny women's biological rights that I would not want to wear anything rainbow anymore.

I think your objection to the lanyard is reasonable. The solution should be a wider one as an option. Think of how people with 'air rage' might respond, and that the potential injury were they to pull your lanyard, compared with if you had a wider one.
If you are the airline I think you could be, it's the one where someone brought in the bailiffs to their airport desk yesterday, so irate customers are not a theoretical thing.

Also all the fetishes and the sexual kinks attached to the + part. Well, and the whole ideology, frankly.

Interesting. My firm recently merged with a bigger one and the new lanyards have a garish turquoise strap. (The old ones just had a discreet clip.) They don't have to be worn but in practice you need to as you can't get to the toilet/ lift/ canteen without it. I'm not a turquoise kind of person so I bought my own black lanyard strap and no one has said anything yet. Maybe they will!

Not really. One choice is uncomfortable and cuts in and the other is political.
tenterden · 19/03/2023 10:51
You are coming across as incredibly difficult and petty OP.
Where have they said it’s uncomfortable and cuts in?

I don’t like wire thin lanyards which the purple one is
Why are you calling it “wire thin”? 🤪 It isn’t anything like a wire in terms of thinness.
I am truly baffled as to why the thickness of a lanyard would make any difference to anybody ever. Has to be one of the most incomprehensible complaints that I have read on here.
