I’ve had the biggest giggle with my Mum this morning 🤣. I’ve been ill all week with shingles and so can’t visit my Mum this weekend neither of my parents have had chicken pox. So posted card and present, she opened it this morning and I’d sent her a beautiful photo frame but forgot to put the photos of the kids in 🤦‍♀️… crying with laughter down the phone together… best present ever!

My DDs are with dad this weekend and I know I won’t get anything because I was too poorly to take them shopping. However my youngest (who has SEN) made me a card at Cubs… apparently it’s a cow and an elephant 🤣🤣🤣

AIBU to think giggles and memories are more important than stuff! I’ll get a cuddle when my girls get home later… what more could any Mother want?

DH has made an effort this year on behalf of the kids (KS1 age) and all three of them were absolutely thrilled with their efforts which was breakfast in bed

at 6.35 in the morning

and was

pre-packaged sliced melon decoratively arranged on a plate - I really really hate melon but I don't think it's ever come up in conversation. I had a nibble and offered the rest to the kids.

a huge mug of coffee in the large decorative mug I normally reserve for soaking my moon cup in

a bowl of Greek yoghurt and posh muesli then appeared - great

as I was enjoying my yoghurt a massive plate of smoked salmon, bagels poached eggs and hollandaise sauce appeared. Which I LOVE but not straight after a big bowl of yoghurt.

as I was forcing the last of the salmon down a huge bowl of cheesy nachos with jalapeños arrived. At 7.05 in the morning. I had to politely decline.

Im still chuckling about it now.

This made me laugh and laugh! The nachos 😂

Thank you. I'm having a bit of a crap day myself (missing my late mum a lot) and this thread was just what I needed.

I have tears running down my cheek reading about your moon cup mug! Then that light breakfast topped off by the cheesy nachos. Brilliant!

My eldest made me breakfast in bed when he was about 7. I got coco pops (🥳) and tea . I asked him how he’d managed the kettle … “it’s ok mum I used hot water out of the tap”

I miss those days

At 6 I took my mum breakfast in bed. It was hard carrying the tray with the full teapot up the stairs, but I managed it.
When she queried my brewing process, I helpfully informed her that since she would have gone mad if I'd touched the kettle, I had ingeniously used cold water from the tap!
It's the thought that counts - apparently.

Tell your son that it is a very fine card and if you google 'elecow' you will see some lovely pictures of what you may expect if the cow and the elephant go on to have children together.

My mum took my toddler (20 month) daughter out with a set amount of money and apparently with instructions to get me some pretty, to my taste jewelry.

While in the shop my DD had very different ideas and I'm now the proud owner of a pair of silver geometric stegosaurus earrings

Ah I love this. My eldest once made me a card in school and it was more phallic than floral 😂

I've had lots of homemade cards and drawings today and an Easter Egg from my middle daughter who is very much a miniature me and knows how much I love chocolate and that Easter chocolate is the best of them all 😂

We had a meal out planned but sick child means I've spent the morning watching one play football and am spending the afternoon watching the Avengers with my poorly boy whilst my husband makes a roast. It wasn't the plan but I think I'm enjoying it more than the planned day so far.

My DS made me a lovely card and put £2.50 inside so I could buy myself a “beautiful big bunch of flowers” 🤔😂

My teen DS is away and not able to be with me today but sent some money for flowers which his sibling went out and bought. I just got a text message from him and it is the most loveliest, poetic and heartfelt message full of gratitude at my mothering skills and how he’s so sad he can’t be with me etc…

He always used to make home-made cards and write lovely things but I’ve got a sneaking suspicion this particular message was created by ChatGPT! We both have a very dark sense of humour so I downloaded the ChatGPT app and asked it to write a Mother’s Day message from a son who couldn’t be with his Mother but who had sent flowers - it didn’t come up with anything exactly the same but it had a similar ‘enthusiasm’ and was just as detailed.

So I asked it to write a message from a mother to a son, who had sent flowers, and it came up with some long, gushing message. I deliberated for a while but ended up writing and sending a message of my own just thanking him for his message.

I just couldn’t risk being wrong. Imagine how he would feel if he had agonised and crafted a lovely, heartfelt message and I then accused him of using an AI app?!! But now I’m sitting here thinking, if he DID use Chat GPT he thinks he’s got away with it and fooled his daft, old, sentimental Mum 😂

On reflection I think I did the right thing and it’s given me a chuckle - as has this thread! The world is crazy - when I was receiving my hand made gifts and ‘interesting’ breakfasts in bed when the kids were little, I never thought I’d be questioning whether any of their future messages had been created by artificial intelligence 😂

One year when my DS was about 6 or 7, my Mother's Day breakfast in bed was a pint of cranberry juice, which he was most insistent that I finish.

Apparently my two (13 and 11) planned to buy me a new apron.

DH intervened and said perhaps this was not ideal as a Mothers Day gift.

The three of them reconsidered together and gave me a book of the Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations".

These stoicisms certainly will help me bear the challenges of motherhood. 🤣

I got a poached egg in bed too.

On another thread I have just shared a picture of my new roaring and articulated Dilophosaurus toy from my DDs. It is the perfect gift as I LOVE dinosaurs.

I also have some dark chocolate covered almonds with sea salt assuming it's a me thing and my DD5 has shared half the bag, thankfully she can't share my wine 😅

When I was very little my grandparents helped me paint a pebble/stone to look like a ladybird for my mother's day present. I never thought of it again until I was clearing out her things when she died (I was 19). More than 15 years later and many house moves... It was in her jewellery box.

Unfortunately my a-hole sister claimed it was her that had made it and took it (along with much of my stuff from the house). But just knowing mum had kept it warms me.

I can't stop laughing at this! 😂😍

DP is away so the kids (teens) can either embrace it or ignore Mothers Day. They are storming it.

I'm not into big breakfasts but I was delighted to go downstairs and find my eldest had left out a bowl of weetabix, a spoon, a glass of water and a jug of milk.

And they really though about the gift. They bought me a replacement handle for the lid of my fav saucepan which had broken (love this pan) . And the eldest has fitted it for me whilst the youngest and I went out walking the dog.

Can I just say I think it's really shitty of your ex to keep them with him for Mother's Day morning. I know it's none of my business but I feel sad for you because that they're not there

I tried to get rid of mine to their Dads.... he refused 😒
