There’s no cure for Sinus Relief…

AIBU to think there’s no cure for sinus relief?

I’m 34. I’ve had it all my life. I’ve never had a decent sleep due to it.

Nothing helps. I’ve tried everything. Sprays, steam, neti pot, medicine, acupuncture, herbal stuff.

:-(

I struggle with sinus pain - my GP is sending me for a CT which I am hoping will shed some light. Have you been referred for any further investigations?

My GP hasn’t referred me for CT. I’ve had investigations in the past, but with different medication.

What will the CT scan show?

I sympathise, I may well need to have steriods constantly at this rate. Constant infections. Cant taste or smell most of the time, the few times it does work I feel over the moon

ive had an operation on my sinuses, Ive had numerous sprays. Nose streams constantly, post nasal miserable drip, constant cough.

Tassen · 17/03/2023 13:37

Yes there was in my case. Sinus drain op to get out all the gunk, then one year later followed by a septorhinoplasty due to an undiagnosed deviated septum which was causing all the sinusitis/sinus problems.

It was moving areas & joining a new GP practice that discovered the problem.
So maybe you need a fresh pair of eyes & see a new GP.

TempsPerdu · 17/03/2023 13:37

I very much hear you OP! Been on steroid sprays for years, use neti pot twice a day etc - still had a near constant run of infections for the past three months. It’s grim.

A friend had sinus surgery years ago which apparently worked for a couple of years but then reverted back (as happens frequently it seems). She says the only thing that gave her some relief was giving up all dairy, but I like my cheese to much for this to be an option!

SeulementUneFois · 17/03/2023 13:41

I was searching and searching on the internet for my partner for this and happened upon an American medical clinic that was advertising a new procedure.

They’d come up with some way to get a surgical balloon in there that apparently improved things? Their point being that it’s not invasive like surgery.

TokyoStories · 17/03/2023 13:46

I had septorhinoplasty for a badly deviated septum after breaking my nose twice, and the balloon procedure at the same time. Before the op I could barely breathe through my left nostril. Couldn’t believe the difference when I’d healed from surgery. I felt like I could breathe properly for the first time in years.

Unfortunately I have quite severe allergies, especially at this time of year, so I suffer with a constantly streaming nose and post nasal drip. But no congestion fortunately.

housemaus · 17/03/2023 13:58

I'm on the list for a septorhinoplasty, turns out I have a deviated septum that's causing me all the sinus issues. Definitely worth asking for an ENT referral because I've suffered for years and it's awful!

stayathomegardener · 17/03/2023 14:04

Would you consider a salt pope with iodine?
Google Dr Myhill.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 17/03/2023 16:27

Thanks for the replies! There’s certainly some ideas I will look into. I may have to go back to GP and get the referral again. It will probably take years 😭

Also - do you all snore? I snore so loud it’s embarrassing. I can’t breathe through my nose and get frequent infections, headaches, and at times, I feel like I’m partially deaf too. I can’t hear well either.

It’s comforting to know others are going through this too. I feel like it affects my speech too as sometimes my nose is so congested I can’t say certain words properly.

I'm presuming you've done this already, but just on the off chance: Have you tried checking for allergies?

Hi, yes I’ve done the Allergy test. Nothing on there to suggest I’m allergic to anything.

have you cut out lactose or other dietary triggers to see if any of those are contributing?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 17/03/2023 17:51

My MIL had polyps on her sinuses that needed to be removed.

Cardamoney · 17/03/2023 18:15

Sort of reassured to hear I’m not the only one here. I like the Sterimar spray - vaporised sea water- that helps a bit. This winter has been a killer - hoping it’s just the after effects of lock down and the bugs will settle down soon. Every day starts with paracetamol for headache and I’m sick of not being able to sleep flat!

ArianahX · 17/03/2023 18:21

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime what were your MILs' symptoms of polyps? I keep getting nosebleeds from my sinuses and wonder if it's that.

Yes, from what I've heard an elimination diet is supposed to be the only reliable way to check for triggers.

EmmaEmerald · 17/03/2023 18:22

What sort of issues? Is it a case for surgery maybe?

BorisJohnsonsHair · 17/03/2023 18:27

I had an op on mine about 20 years ago and it's been fine ever since.

Have you got an ENT consultant, they should have done camera investigations. Mine were totally blocked and so I had the op to unblock them. Yes I am a lot clearer since then but it hasnt solved (and doesnt claim to) all the problems like my lack of taste and smell or recurrinng infections unfortunately but at least people can understand what Im saying!!!

ipswichwitch · 17/03/2023 18:31

I’m in the same miserable boat! Constant infections, barely any sense of smell or taste and the snoring is horrendous. I’ve had no relief from anything. Last saw a gp woth “special interest” who had a look up my nose and had a ct scan but everything was seemingly fine. He discharge me with nothing to help the symptoms. I’ve been back and forth to the go a few times now and they’re referring me to ent.

tonyhawks23 · 17/03/2023 18:32

I had it so bad for like 10 months then tried salt water snorting and it was amazing how it actually cleared it.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 17/03/2023 18:35

I’ve cut out dairy products in the past … but not recently. It didn’t make a difference before. (This was like 12 years ago).

I also had a food intolerance test and that showed I’m not lactose intolerant so I’ve not cut off anything which I didn’t need to based on that.

Constantly feeling blocked and painful, lots of sinus infections. They eventually sent her to an ENT who used a camera to do a proper inspection of the sinus cavity rather than just a quick look up her nose and found them.

I’ve tried that with pink Himalayan salt and neti pot. Works for 5mins then later during the night it’s all bunged up again.
