In peads A&E with daughter as went over on ankle and it swelled up like a balloon. Been hear 1 hr 30 mins. Paeds A&E not busy - maybe 3-4 patients. Staff everywhere - must be about 10 people milling around tbe computers doing very little. No wheel chair so have been carrying her round the hospital to X-ray , toilet etc.

Just seem to be on a go slow. If I were this slow at my job, i would be in trouble. 🤷‍♀️

Expect to get flames for this of course. We were sat outside X-ray for 10 mins and when they came out, they didn't realise we had been sitting there. I have a hungry grumpy in pain 6yr old.

@Cupofteaaa5 the question for me was, it was a Sunday clinic, obviously catching up after covid. There was hardly anyone in the clinic. Why did they need one receptionist to tell me to go to the other desk, only to be told by smacked arse face to go back.to the other area, and didn't even bother to acknowledge my presence

HermioneHerman · 16/03/2023 20:48

Someone actually complaining because A&E is too quiet and staff aren't running around stressed like headless chickens during their 12 hour shifts, I absolutely despair 🤦🏼‍♀️. And the general public wonder why we're haemorrhaging staff and working conditions are so unpleasant...when selfish entitled patients/families just want their pound of flesh, healthcare staff worked to the bone with ABSOLUTELY no idea of what their actual jobs and workloads entail. A quiet shift (after a mass strike as things are just getting back to normal in terms of demand etc) is a ridiculous reason to declare the NHS 'completely shit'. Give your head a massive wobble, would you? 🙄

Lizzypet · 16/03/2023 20:48

It's not free..

Masterofcats · 16/03/2023 20:49

You are probably waiting for a radiologist to look at the x-ray to decide what is wrong and what needs doing. So your x-ray may be in a long queue of many x-ray some of much sicker people. Stop moaning you have been seen , x-rayed she isn't dying and they are obviously dealing with it.

youshouldnthaveasked · 16/03/2023 20:49

Ahh just read that you she has had an X-ray. They will need a radiologist to look at X-ray.

I'm regularly looking like I'm 'milling about' in ED. I'm an AHP and can help with nothing in ED except for the very specific job I'm trained to do and requested to do by the team down there. Very sorry if that clutters up ED and makes patients thinks we're all doing nothing but wasting their time.

OP - you are the worst of the British public in regard to the view of the NHS. Please come and train to work in the NHS as you clearly think it's a easy relaxed affair that anyone could do.

Hear Hear.
OP go use your private health care for an emergency and see what that gets you.

HollyFern1110 · 16/03/2023 20:22

So are you waiting to see the Dr for your xray results?

In my experience of A&E the majority of the wait is for a Dr. Reception checks you in quickly enough, a nurse triages you quickly enough (usually) but the wait is for the Dr.

Are any of the 10 people milling about the actual person you're waiting to see?

This

youshouldnthaveasked · 16/03/2023 20:51

PS pleased to read they have actually been offered a better paydeal 😉

br0kenankle · 16/03/2023 20:51

I just dont understand why we put up with crap service just because it is the NHS

I don't have a good word to say about A&E but 2 or 4 or even 6 hours seem a pretty good going these days.

I called 999 for an ambulance from the floor of an A&E waiting room when I collapsed after 14h of "waiting" to be seen.
I'd like my taxes to go on a private health insurance instead, for sure.

Bunnyfuller · 16/03/2023 20:51

I get the doctors, it’s actually very obvious they are flat out. What about the group of PAEDS nurses, stood by the desk chatting? Why did no one take DD’s blood but we had to wait for the student doctor? It’s specifically the nurses I see stood around, not the doctors, and not the HCAs, they are on the go constantly. Why don’t the nurses jump in and do some of the dross for the docs or HCAs? What is their role on Paeds A and E?

twoandcooplease · 16/03/2023 20:52

What is it them doing something would look like to you? Because nurses sitting at desks with either a computer or files in front of them means....they are doing something

Yabu you should have planned snacks better for a&e with a child

scaryeleneve · 16/03/2023 20:52

Notbeinfunnehbut · 16/03/2023 20:46

i think the OP is getting a pasting here

some NHS staff very efficient some aren’t
i went near Xmas coughing up blood and with a serious temperature, left for 6 hrs did a blood test didn’t look inside my throat once! , to the point where I actually said
is somebody going to examine my throat…apparently it wasn’t necessary

2 weeks later turns out it was necessary, Septic tonsillitis 😡

theres good and bad in every industry

Except the OP has decided the whole NHS is worthy of wider societal contempt because she's decided her experience isn't good enough and staff look lazy. Not exactly balanced and looking for the good and bad is it.

Bepis · 16/03/2023 20:52

br0kenankle · 16/03/2023 20:51

I just dont understand why we put up with crap service just because it is the NHS

But 2 hours to have already had an X-ray is pretty good considering staff shortages.

Blip · 16/03/2023 20:53

YANBU OP the NHS is so broken and inefficient and millions of UK citizens are suffering as a result.

You are very fortunate that you can go private.

br0kenankle · 16/03/2023 20:53

2 hours is not good when there is hardly anyone here

OP posts:
DontSetYourselfOnFireToKeepOthersWarm · 16/03/2023 20:53

So what do you for a job OP that means you pay so much tax? Just so we can judge your relative value to society compared to those working for the NHS.

latetothefisting · 16/03/2023 20:53

TomatoSandwiches · 16/03/2023 20:21

Pay for private health care then, honestly the NHS is shit sometimes but this isn't anywhere near the level of entitlement to grumble.

Try and request a wheelchair for your DD and hope she is on the mend soon.

I don't agree with the OP but not sure how she's supposed to pay for private a&e?

MissMaple82 · 16/03/2023 20:53

I smell a troll... if not a troll, then just a massive d#@*head

Bepis · 16/03/2023 20:54

br0kenankle · 16/03/2023 20:53

2 hours is not good when there is hardly anyone here

The doctors could be running between departments doing jobs though I guess.

WimbyAce · 16/03/2023 20:54

My family have used the NHS A LOT already this year and I have to say they have been brilliant. I know a lot is area dependent but have no complaints here.

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/03/2023 20:54

Hope you do get seen soon, then you will go quiet and we won't have to put up with your drivel.

Househare · 16/03/2023 20:54

Don't you think you are a bit self-centred and entitled? I certainly do.

scaryeleneve · 16/03/2023 20:54

br0kenankle · 16/03/2023 20:51

I just dont understand why we put up with crap service just because it is the NHS

What specifically is crap?
You can't tar the entire NHS as being crap. It simply isn't true. This is exactly why we're all giving up because the public clearly wants to pay for something better. Good luck to you.

unrsnblyannoyd · 16/03/2023 20:54

I can assure you the acutely sick child will not be in the same mini ward you are in. They will be in Resus, likely surrounded by a group of the same professionals who need to do your review. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.
