Thoughts on Incense

I used to have incense sticks burning away in my bedroom as a teen during my hippy phase!

Today I saw some lovely incense holders and incense sticks as I was pottering around a posh shop. I hadn't seen them in years, I'm guessing they've always been about I've just probably not noticed.

I bought them on a whim as was feeling nostalgic. I've just lit one (Lime and Mandarin) smells divine to me.

I just wondered what others thought about them? If you went to someone's home and they had one burning away - do you like them, hate them, think friend had become all hippy? 🤣

I can't stand them. A neighbour sometimes lights one and the smell comes through my window. It's...cloying, like it sticks at the back of my throat and makes me cough. Horrible for those of us with asthma. Just my opinion.

midgemadgemodge · 16/03/2023 16:52

Don't trigger my asthma funnily enough

I prefer them to any other house smelly thing ( air fresheners, sticks in jars )
Perhaps because. It's an intense hit and then you can open the windows and clear it all out ?

Choconut · 16/03/2023 16:53

I hate them, I just think of all the crap you must be breathing in by having them burning. They give me a headache and generally make me feel ill.

AlwaysLatte · 16/03/2023 16:55

I love them, one Nag Champa White Sage stick in the kitchen at night after I've cooked a curry, helps a lot!

MissMooley · 16/03/2023 16:55

I love them and I've used them for years. They don't set off my asthma and I prefer them to candles.

AlwaysLatte · 16/03/2023 16:56

(They don't make any of us cough or get headaches)

AlwaysLatte · 16/03/2023 16:56

Also, give me an incense stick over that ghastly Zoflora any day!

Pavlova31 · 16/03/2023 16:58

I like the perfume when they are burning but not the acrid smell afterwards.

I feel the same, nausea and headaches.
Someone did say to me that it depends on the quality and that some are made with natural ingredients and some not, but I have no idea if that is true.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 16/03/2023 17:01

I like them. I have one burning quite often.

ReallyReallyRealThings · 16/03/2023 17:01

I always had them going as a student, I rediscovered them a few years ago when a yoga teacher used to burn them during classes in the local village hall. I now light one whenever I do yoga at home and it instantly relaxes me. I also light one when DH has been cooking something smelly.

Yes they do get rid of curry cooking smells

Christ I thought this read thoughts on Incest.....I'm tired😫

Incense is rank plus my cat is asthmatic so it's not possible.

Poorlittlepoorgirl · 16/03/2023 17:08

I find they make the air feel heavy and polluted. I just add some essential oils to a diffuser now.

Ponoka7 · 16/03/2023 17:13

I don't like them. I pick up the burning over the scent. I can't stand the smell of matches.

inthegoodlife · 16/03/2023 17:14

I think they're quite bad for you - might be worth checking out. I've read breathing them in is as bad as cigarettes smoke in some cases.

BlueberryShy · 16/03/2023 17:15

I'm a huge fan, love them! But then I think I probably would be described as 'all hippy' 😂

wheresmyshoe · 16/03/2023 17:16

I use Satya Nag Champa. Brilliant quality and natural scent.

defi · 16/03/2023 17:17

They hurt my sinuses

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 16/03/2023 17:20

DH and I both like them and used to burn them quite a bit before we had kids. Sometimes triggered his asthma but not often.

we stopped when dd was born, it just felt wrong having her breath in the smoke. Probably a bit OTT but it didn’t feel right.

Elleviss · 16/03/2023 17:23

I love the Satya brand . Dragon's blood is my absolute favourite in the darker red box not the pinky red box. I have one on the go right now. I always open the window a bit.

McSlowburn · 16/03/2023 17:25

I love Czech and Speake 88 incense sticks - been using them since I was really young (1988!).

Rina66 · 16/03/2023 17:36

I buy the Nag Champa oil and put it in my Neom pod, makes the house smell lovely.

stbrandonsboat · 16/03/2023 17:38

I can't use the sticks, but the resin is usually okay. It's difficult to get going without charcoal though.

Houselamp · 16/03/2023 17:41

I love them- especially how heavy they make the air feel, they remind me of my grandpas house
