Aibu for not wanting a dog in my car?

My sister thinks im being a bitch for not picking her up in my car when she has her dog with her.

It's a huge malamute. So it's really hairy and it smells. It would also mean having to empty my car out as its full with car seats, prams, kids scooters etc.

She said I'm being precious and a dick but I don't see why she can't just leave the dog at home (it's used to being at home).

I use my car for work and have clients in it too which is another reason why I dont want hair everywhere!

Your car, your rules. Shes being a dick.

Said as someone who has a car full of dog hair and slobber…

Whatthediddlyfeck · 16/03/2023 12:21

YANBU from another dog owner

Mumteedum · 16/03/2023 12:21

Nope. Even if it was a terrier. Not in the least unreasonable. My dear old dog lived to be 15. I never expected anyone other than me to have him in their car.

londonrach · 16/03/2023 12:22

Yabu. Your car your rules. I not take such a large dog in my car but happy to take my sister s small poodle no way if needed to move car seats etc.

RachelSq · 16/03/2023 12:22

YANBU - is there a reason why she needs to bring the dog? Trip sounds preplanned and not an emergency, which would change my answer.

londonrach · 16/03/2023 12:23

Yanbu rather than autocorrect yabu

KateAusten · 16/03/2023 12:24

Hell no

I wouldn't allow a dog in my car, ever

Hairy, stinky things

UdoU · 16/03/2023 12:24

Seriously, I wouldn’t be doing any favours to a twat who calls me a dick.

Tell her to fuck off.

Absolutely this. She can fuck off.

YANBU for not having any dog in your car ever btw.

If the tables were turned and you had a pukey snotty dc and she refused to drive you both would you be happy? She is a committed ddog owner and prefers not to leave ddog at home on this occasion.. How is that not acceptable?
Shove her a vaccum cleaner and some wipes to clean up any mess.
*hairy Husky owner here..

SunshineAndFizz · 16/03/2023 12:30

I wouldn't take my car seats out for a person let alone a dog.

Children don't leave hairs in a car or make them smell of dog.

YANBU @Klunt

Aren't dogs meant to be restrained in cars now anyway?

A dog is not a child.

A child of mine with a stomach bug would be at home, not getting driven about.

It’s not a good analogy.

Lockheart · 16/03/2023 12:36

It rather depends on the context doesn't it.

If she's broken down somewhere and stranded and needs you to pick her up, yes I'd agree with her.

If she just fancies a lift into town, no.

Lycanthropology · 16/03/2023 12:37

I would never expect anyone to have my big hairy dog in their car. YANBU.

Why put d in front of dog? People will still know what you mean if you just wrote dog. No need for the ddog?!

anyway. I wouldn’t mind driving the dog but would mind about moving seats around and her calling me a dick

danni0509 · 16/03/2023 12:39

No chance would I have a dog in my car.

furryfrontbottom · 16/03/2023 12:40

No way would I have a dog in my car, or my house either for that matter.

magicstar1 · 16/03/2023 12:40

Nope….you’re right on this one. I have a German Shepherd and she leaves so much hair, slobber and just normal dog smell in the car.

TheFlis12345 · 16/03/2023 12:45

I am a dog owner and I wouldn’t want your sisters dog in my car either! My dog is a small breed that barely sheds, and goes in a crate in the car so his impact is minimised. Even so, we have to regularly clean the inside and it’s really hard work, the fur just seems to glue itself to the seats!

WhereIsMyRefund · 16/03/2023 12:47

YANBU. Gross. No disgusting dog will enter my car or my home ever.

garlictwist · 16/03/2023 12:47

Yanbu. I gave my friend and his dog a five minute lift in my car a few months ago and the car is still covered in fur and smelled really doggy for a while too.

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 16/03/2023 12:47

YANBU

The only exception I'd make to having a dog in my car is if it needed to be taken to the vet as an emergency and I was the only person available to take it and I liked the owner!

Other than that, there's no way any dog is getting in my car.

Suzi888 · 16/03/2023 12:48

I would politely decline. Of course you aren’t being unreasonable.

I don’t think there’s any need to be telling her to fuck off etc. Keep it classy!🤣
