Aibu for not wanting a dog in my car?

My sister thinks im being a bitch for not picking her up in my car when she has her dog with her.

It's a huge malamute. So it's really hairy and it smells. It would also mean having to empty my car out as its full with car seats, prams, kids scooters etc.

She said I'm being precious and a dick but I don't see why she can't just leave the dog at home (it's used to being at home).

I use my car for work and have clients in it too which is another reason why I dont want hair everywhere!

I don't think there is such a thing as a crash tested seat belt clip. I certainly wouldn't like to rely on one for a dog as heavy as a Malamute! You can get crash tested seat harness for dogs that the seat belt itself threads through but they aren't great for big dogs as it forces them to sit bolt upright, I had one for my rough collie and he only just fitted on the seat. You need a very strong crate or dog guard and tail gate guard for a Malamute.

There you go @Klunt. There's your get out clause.

@Klunt

I'd take the dog & leave your sister.

If the dog could get up into my boot (Ford focus with a lip on the boot) without destroying my paint work, I'd take him. But I'd be less happy if he needed to use the back seat. And if car seats needed to be removed I'd only do it if I really wanted to take him
out.

my friends lab makes a big enough mess on his blanket in the car! But I LOVE him so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love big dogs, we have German Shepards.

YANBU. We are now down to one dog and the car stinks when we take her out. Also, it starts my allergies, usually just hay fever.

Enjoy the river? So would be returning home soaked? The mal I know loves just plonking down in the water. God, no.

RausageSoul · 16/03/2023 19:27

It's bad enough in dog friendly pubs where dogs are allowed to have their bum holes on the seating!

SophiaSW1 · 16/03/2023 19:35

I wouldn't have a dog in my car

Bentley123 · 16/03/2023 20:12

I would if dog fitted in the boot, and my sister put a towel down. But then again I like taking dogs for walks it adds to the fun & don’t mind going out my way for family (especially if they didn’t have their own car)

Bentley123 · 16/03/2023 20:13

If they have their own car though I’d definitely suggest they make their own way!

Emergency visit to the vets, yes with lots of blankets to protect the car. Anything else forget it.

Eas1lyd1stracted · 16/03/2023 20:29

YADNBU. My dog is mostly daschund and can be easily secured on a lap with a blanket underneath but even then he is quite licky and can leave the odd hair.

A giant, shedding dog where you have to empty out your card and can't protect it from smell and mess? No way particularly a soggy dog.

I wouldn't do it. The only exceptions would be a breakdown with noone to rescue them or feeling domestic abuse or something equally serious. Not a jaunt to the river!

The inside of my car is filthy since I got a dog. Don't blame you at all.
