Why are we waking over AI?

When many simply can't afford to eat. Why should we be bulding more nuclear power stations when they are so freaking expensive? Did he just give the US the green light to try new experimental drugs on us? Is the budget a dystopian nightmare. Discuss?

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/03/2023 16:34

What sort of experimental drugs and where can I get some? Asking for a friend like.Wink

Bonjovispjs · 15/03/2023 16:35

Hate people who say "discuss" That'll be a big fat no from me!

worried4698643 · 15/03/2023 16:38

Can't say I've ever wanked over a robot.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 15/03/2023 16:42

I think this is a thread about the Budget.

Did he just give the US the green light to try new experimental drugs on us?
Hunt says he will put in place a new medicine regulator, which will give “rapid, often near-automatic approval for medicines and technologies already approved by trusted regulators in other parts of the world such as the US, Europe and Japan.

Why are we wa(n)king over AI?
And he also says he will offer a £1m a year prize for the next 10 years for the most innovative research in AI.

LlynTegid · 15/03/2023 17:21

Nuclear power is a part of the grid mix we need to consider. About the only thing Jeremy Hunt said today I agree with, as I don't want us to be dependent on other countries especially despotic ones for energy.

Commonsensitivity · 15/03/2023 18:04

What? I work in AI and I haven't a clue what you are talking about. Maybe ask chatGPT to write your next post

Im talking about the budget.

I thought it was another snobby holiday thread.

We may not have big rivers but we do have the sea, surely we could use that.

We do - a bit. Eg Cardiff bay barrage.

MermaidEyes · 15/03/2023 18:37

Wanking over AI? This is why I always holiday in villas, no one needs to be sat next to someone wanking at the breakfast buffet.

lmnabc · 15/03/2023 18:37

AI to me is always artificial insemination

BMW6 · 15/03/2023 18:40

What is AI in relation to the Budget OP?

maddiemookins16mum · 15/03/2023 18:52

You lost me at discuss.

P. S. I left an "n" out of waking.

Probably for the best really

stbrandonsboat · 15/03/2023 19:02

Ffs, why can't anyone actually manage to make a thread title that doesn't have a typo in it?!

This place is full of chimpanzees

Commonsensitivity · 15/03/2023 19:05

Here you go @BMW6

techcrunch.com/2023/03/15/uk-spring-budget-chancellor-plans-1m-annual-ai-prize-quantum-investments-and-a-new-900m-exascale-computer/

Really captures the national mood don't you think?

It was deliberate. 🙄

Why? To gain traction?

You don't think the Government should invest in things that will have long term benefits to the country then?

DrManhattan · 16/03/2023 07:33

Leave the bastard. Hook up with a bot.

LondonQueen · 16/03/2023 07:35

Someone has let the internet get to them again. You seem to come up with the most bizarre theories!

EveSix · 16/03/2023 07:51

Nuclear power is inherently problematic. It is not a safe fix for our current addiction to fossil fuels.
There is nowhere to safely and reliably store nuclear waste for the many, many generations to come. Our children and grandchildren will not thank us for kicking this can further down the road. While there is no safe storage, nuclear power remains hugely unethical, endangering life of people and wildlife in the future.
We may not have large enough rivers, but tidal barrages are a possibility, albeit damaging to local wildlife. While we insist on a growth economy, we'll be stuck choosing between least bad options.

Commonsensitivity · 16/03/2023 07:51

You don't think the Government should invest in things that will have long term benefits to the country then?

Not when they can't get the basics right. And the ethics of AI are extremely debatable.

I love a bit of AI. I've got it writing all my emails and reports: more coffee ☕ time for me. YAAAY 😍
