To see someone born in 1968 as young?

Speaking to someone yesterday who's just turned 55. He goes to the gym every morning, is 'hot' imo - as lean as a young man of 18 or so. No tattoos, no beard .. and a great sense of fun - really good company.

I personally still see him as youthful 😊

So do you see someone born in 1968 as young (relatively) ?

I'm thinking of buying a myself a Morris Minor to get into the spirit of all things '68! Grin

They'd be a little bit younger than me, and I am not young. But I do know some people who have the combination of good genes, good health and good fitness levels who look a good deal younger than mid 50s.
DH and I are the kind of people who see someone being interviewed on the telly ('Dave, 56') and think there's no way that old duffer can be the same age as us. Deluded, of course. But we still see the young person in one another's faces. I don't imagine a stranger would spot it.

HamBone · 14/03/2023 15:01

@DahliaMacNamara Yep, DH said I was prettier than ever yesterday….I replied that it’s a good thing his eyesight’s deteriorating. 🤣🤣

My parents are 62 and I'm in my late 30s. When my husband (same age) and I separated for a few months, I had a little thing with a 50 year old.

In terms of his body and his mind he was younger than my husband!

I think while he's obviously not
Young and well into that middle aged zone, someone can still 'be' young.

So you only think of him as young because he's "hot"?

Lol I don't know I suppose he has a lean, fit physique

I was born in 72. I feel positively ancient. Everything aches, the youngsters irritate me, and I just want to sit under a blanket with my cat and a hot water bottle of an evening and watch a bit of telly.

Telly with cats and hot water blanket sounds idyllic !!

No
Even though my oldest dc was born in 1969 and youngest in 1974 they are not ‘young’.

It’s definitely nice that he’s fresh-faced and lean at 55, as any people aren’t, if we’re totally honest. My BIL (also 55) is v. lean and fit, but has a lined face and little hair, he doesn’t look young. DH (50) is podgier, with thick curls and barely a line on his face.

The combination of all three by 55 is fairly rare. 🤣

mmmm.....

lean/lined/bald v podgy/smooth/curly

Personally I lean (!!!!) towards bald/podgy/smooth

That may be something to do with a co-worker who is built like a bull and has a definite twinkle-there's something about us 1968 babies, I think ...
😍😉😋

Of course he isn’t young! What a strange post.

He is 55 this year, yes? That’s obviously heading towards the upper end of middle aged. Old is over 60. Elderly over 80.

I say this as someone who is 57.

Just had his 55th birthday a few weeks ago - i think it's because he's lean/fresh faced he seems like a young man to me and deffo not a beard or tattoo in sight !! Grin

What do you mean about beards and tattoos?

Younger men are more likely to have these nowadays than older men, it’s more fashionable. Or do you mean he looks young despite not having a current look?

Even if he looks young for his age, that doesn’t actually make him young 😊

There's definitely snowing about 1968 babies ! Think I'll watch some Z Cars and listen to The Tremeloes tonight to get into the spirit of the times Grin

Personally I prefer no beards or tattoos/ it's just a personal preference- he's clean shaven - which I like personally !

I was born in the mid 80s and don't consider myself young so born in 1968 is not young. It's also not old either.

itsabigtree · 14/03/2023 19:25

No... not 'old' just yet, but would be a big stretch to call them youthful.

That's not to say that people in their 50s can't have load of energy, so they may seem youthful in the way that they act, but factually they are just not young!

CharitySchmarity · 14/03/2023 19:34

He's one year older than my brother and I still think of him as young - but then I remember when he was born!

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/03/2023 20:00

I'm 60 and certainly don't consider myself old. There's nothing I can't do now because of my age (except get a new job maybe - but then I haven't tried that). However 55 isn't "young".

All of my close friends (not acquaintances) are aged 50 to 70, with most in their late 50s/early 60s. While I acknowledge that some are younger than me, I certainly don't think of any of them as young. That goes out the window once you reach 30 imo.

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/03/2023 20:07

At the weekend I went to a massive joint 60th birthday party and danced for hours. Got home at 12.45am - earlier than my 19 year old son who was also out that night and tucked up in bed before I got home.

That's only ten years older than me so yes, he's a fucking foetus. Does his mother know he's out?

I see them as a young old person 🤗

Yep me too, mid-50s is early old age in my mind (I’m not too far off it myself)

RuthW · 14/03/2023 20:47

They are young! I'm 55 and middle aged is always ten years older than I currently am.

shinynewapple22 · 14/03/2023 20:56

Younger than me - so must be young !
