Unbelievably heavy period for me.
Day 3 of it literally falling out of me. I am bleeding through lil lets ultra in about a hour, sometimes 2.
Small clots too, size of a 5p.
Last night the cramps started and I am in a bit of pain from them which is not normal for me at all.
Eventually I fell into such a deep sleep I didn't hear any alarms going off this morning, or the children waking up.
Usually I have heavy periods but this is just crazy. I stood up off the toilet last night to try and have a look and it was running out of me.
Sorry TMI but I'm worried and feel horrible.

When I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks, post MVA I was told if I bled through a pad in an hour that would be considered an emergency and that i would need seen.
I would try and get seen if you can. I hope you're OK

Bepis · 13/03/2023 13:04

Do you have any kind of rash on your skin?

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 13:04

I am going to try and get my cup in later today once this tampon is full so I get a better gage on how much I am losing.

Cups don't seem to sit well in me and I often leak a little bit but should still give me a rough idea. Us I'm sat around wearing a pad as well anyway so leaks should be covered.

No rashes.

I don't know if this would make a difference but my bleeding ramped up ALOT after a hot bath last night.

I had very similar symptoms that progressively worsened over many years. Back and forth to my GP, brushed off with tablets. I went to a&e twice, my haemoglobin levels were below 65, and needed several blood transfusions. Scans revealed multiple Fibroids and Endo. Still no offer of treatment other than tablets from hospital so went private, within 3 weeks I’d had surgery. Trust your instincts and go to A&E if you are worried. At the very least, be persistent with your GP. And I agree with others , if a man was bleeding from his penis it would be a different story. Women shouldn’t put up and shut up.

CandlelightGlow · 13/03/2023 13:11

Don't want to scare you but my mum got extremely heavy periods toward menopause, so did my nan. My mum ended up in hospital with severe anaemia and required a blood transfusion, it was quite grave at that stage and she could have died.

Please do not let them fob you off, your body can fuck up with this stuff so don't let anyone tell you its within the realms of normal, it's not.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 13:15

Yeh, I have family members who have ended up in hospital or have passed out from menstrual bleeding when menopausal or pre menopausal.

I have looked at private scans today as I just want answers, and don't want another couple of months like this. Trying to imagine dealing with this in warmer months etc and I just couldn't.

Im peri menopausal (46) and currently soaking through a pad an hour, with huge clots. I'm on blood thinners as well. And anemic. Joy

Mummyof2Terrors · 13/03/2023 13:32

Are you breathless? Feeling more tired doing every day things? Any night sweats? Unusual bruising or bleeding (obviously with the period). You need a blood test ASAP.

RainbowsTulipsChocolate · 13/03/2023 13:37

purpledalmation · 13/03/2023 12:20

She has. Her GP has assessed and prescribed a med that reduces period volume and length.

I’ve read all comments thanks and don’t consider the GP prescribing something for a months time to be medical attention, I thought that would be obvious.

BoatyMcbootface · 13/03/2023 13:37

@purpledalmation A 6-7 day period is completely normal. As a teenager I had heavy, very painful periods lasting a solid 10 days. Also, women can die from hemorrhage during a miscarriage, it's a medical emergency, doesn't matter that the blood is being lost from the uterus. I've gone through it.

OP I would suggest a trip to an Urgent Care Centre asap. You need your blood pressure and hemoglobin levels checked at the very least. Hope you get sorted, it's scary.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 13:41

I'm exhausted just day to day right now.

Usually I am more tired on my period and find myself in bed not long after the children but it's nothing major.

Breathlessness... A little bit after moving quickly or up stairs etc.

Private scans - nothing for the next week locally, and even then it's the more expensive one (240-300) that is available. The one in my budget isn't available until end of the month. Still quicker than the 6 weeks NHS though.

I appreciate this assessment is based on pregnant women, but the red flags remain the same - tachycardia, low blood pressure, blood loss volume and signs of shock.

Dyslexicwonder · 13/03/2023 13:44

I am a HCP, if you haven't already take 2 ibuprofen as it may reduce the bleeding ( but do not take with the transamic acid). The transmission acid (if you have it) will work to some extent even if not as well as taking on the first day of period. I agree with PP that I'd you are breathless on climbing the stairs you need to be seen.

Dyslexicwonder · 13/03/2023 13:46

Sorry about the autocorrect transamic acid clearly.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 13:46

I have a blood pressure monitor in the house somewhere.

Should i check it?

Its usually on the higher side of normal but I had to monitor when I was pregnant.

Based on that alone, insist on a blood test. Seriously, I don't want to frighten you but the symptoms together are very worrying.

BoatyMcbootface · 13/03/2023 13:52

Yes, definitely take your blood pressure now.

Dyslexicwonder · 13/03/2023 13:54

Although low blood pressure would be "call an ambulance" territory, if it's normal that doesn't mean you don't need medical attention.

Agreed 👍

ClockworkNightingale · 13/03/2023 13:58

Some people in this thread are weirdly invested in keeping you at home.

I have seen and treated women for very heavy PV bleeding in A&E. If you're feeling dizzy and woozy and breathless, you're showing symptoms that you might not be coping well with this level of bleeding. A young well person can maintain their blood pressure for quite a while, and your other symptoms are still important.

If you are still feeling very unwell or the blood loss picks up again, you would not be wasting anyone's time by going into A&E to be professionally assessed. Please don't let the competitive suffering on mumsnet make the decision for you.

SeasonFinale · 13/03/2023 14:02

When I had this and was bleeding through tampon and pad at the same time within 30 minutes I was referred by GP for an ultrasound to check for ovarian cancer . It wasn't and was just menorrhagia and was resolved by being put on to the minipill.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 14:04

With my symptoms and the suggestion that I should go, what do you think it could be?

My DP is on his way home and will pick up my prescription on route but still be another hour or so away.

OP posts:
OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 14:05

@SeasonFinale thats my biggest worry. Cancer. Glad you were clear of it.

OP posts:
Mummyof2Terrors · 13/03/2023 14:05

Not to frighten you but breathlessness, unusual bleeding/bruising, fatigue etc are all symptoms of leukaemia and lots of women are diagnosed after a very heavy period. It most likely isn't that but you really need to rule it out and a blood test would show if you had abnormalities in the blood.
