Unbelievably heavy period for me.
Day 3 of it literally falling out of me. I am bleeding through lil lets ultra in about a hour, sometimes 2.
Small clots too, size of a 5p.
Last night the cramps started and I am in a bit of pain from them which is not normal for me at all.
Eventually I fell into such a deep sleep I didn't hear any alarms going off this morning, or the children waking up.
Usually I have heavy periods but this is just crazy. I stood up off the toilet last night to try and have a look and it was running out of me.
Sorry TMI but I'm worried and feel horrible.

You need to be seen today, have you called your GP?

SnappyTheCrocodile · 13/03/2023 09:03

My periods are usually like this. It doesn’t sound like you’re haemorrhaging or anything, just a horrible very heavy period. Can you call the GP and ask for some tranexamic acid? Or is there a local walk in centre?

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 09:10

No GP appointments today.

I guess I'm concerned as to what is causing it.

Are you sure it couldn’t be a miscarriage? Sorry to bring it up, but the heavy bleeding with clots sounds like it could be.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 13/03/2023 09:13

Call 111 they can sometimes book appts at GPs or walk in centres that you aren't able to book by calling directly. If you don't want to queue for 111 they have a website you can go through too.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 09:13

No sex in a month so I doubt it.

Thank you for suggestion tho.

Albiboba · 13/03/2023 09:13

Either way I would call 111. It sounds like it might not necessarily need A&E but 111 can book you an appointment with your GP even if they have no appointments if they think you need to be seen by someone today.

You definitely need medical attention. Call your GP and ask for advice.

I've been to a&e for a heavy period before - blood falling out like waters had broken - and they took it very seriously and I ended up on an IV of tranexemic acid.

Good luck

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 09:19

Did you find a cause for the bleeding?

My GP has suggested the acid thing as a tablet before for my normal heavy periods. This month is over and beyond what my usual is tho.

OP posts:
WandaWomblesaurus · 13/03/2023 09:30

Definitely medical attention as you say it's falling out - also it's unusually bleeding for you, and you could be at risk of passing out etc.

Hope you are ok!

anythinginapinch · 13/03/2023 09:30

No I wouldn't (and didn't.)
go to your GP and get a prescription for transamic acid. Poss fibroids so poss referral for a scan. It's bloody miserable (take iron!) but not an A&E emergency.

Newusernameaug · 13/03/2023 09:32

Many women are reporting heavy periods after vax or boosters, if you have seen changes since then you should yellow card report it

First period post natally then peri menopause

Ignore the poster who said it's not an emergency, it is. Signs to watch out for - exhaustion and breathlessness especially the latter

This is dangerous advice

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 09:41

I've not had a vacc or booster in the last 6 months..

OP posts:
purpledalmation · 13/03/2023 09:41

If no pregnancy and no injury it's not a&e it's a gp for transamic acid. Excuse spelling

purpledalmation · 13/03/2023 09:43

The uterus is a closed environment so the blood can only come from there and it's therefore a finite amount.

Injury or pregnancy or blood thinners are potential complications

Honoraryuce · 13/03/2023 09:43

No I wouldn't go to A&E but would make a GP apt.

leggingsandasweatshirt · 13/03/2023 09:44

Appreciate you aren't having a miscarriage, but I did have one last week and I was told if I was soaking a pad in an hour then I needed to be seen. You'd think that advice would apply to any vaginal bleeding? I think I would ring 111 if I were you. Hope you are feeling better soon, it is an absolutely grim feeling 💐

MyNameIsErinQuin · 13/03/2023 09:44

Can you ask the duty doctor at your GP to call you. Ours certainly would for that. If you’ve not tried tranexamic acid, it’s worth trying to slow things down

Toddlerteaplease · 13/03/2023 09:45

Many GP's are on strike today.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/03/2023 09:46

I am exhausted. And climbing the stairs is bloody hard work.

Finially convinced my surgery that I needed to speak to a GP - they called me and have said take the tran.acid stuff at the start of my next period. They will refer me for a scan to check for fibroids. In terms of this period the tablets are unlikely to work in time, so basically get on with it.

Easier said than done with children at home.

OP posts:
PillBoxes · 13/03/2023 09:50

If a man was pouring blood like that from his penis he would be seen straight away.

Women are far too tolerant of dismissal when it comes to periods like this. I don't know what the solution is, but it is not fair at all.

Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis · 13/03/2023 09:55

How old are you? I had a couple of periods like this and I think it was the start of peri menopause.

Kentlassie · 13/03/2023 09:59

I think that’s ridiculous advice from your GP. I would phone 111 and try to be seen at urgent care today.
