To wonder what part of this statement reminded Gary L of Nazi Germany?

This is Suella Braverman's statement Gary Lineker was reacting to when he said "This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s" ... twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1633094764865126400

If she was saying she wanted to stop immigration I could understand GL's reaction. But she's not. I don't understand why anyone would not want to "stop the boats" when 1. they're lethal and 2. they're being run by criminal gangs. If GL had made it clear he wanted to stop the boats but thought this policy was the wrong way to do it, then fine. But he didn't - he just made an extremely inflammatory statement. He might be getting lots of love from some quarters, but personally I think he's an egotist who is playing into the hands of the people smugglers.

How much of the 'industry' in your is coming from tourism. What happens when hotels are full of migrants.
And don't suggest the answer is to move them into real housing. There isn't any: there is such massive demands on housing in the Uk , rents are insanely high.

Just so we can keep this thread on what is factually accurate.

There are 1/4 of a million empty homes in the UK.
There are 3/4 million 2nd homes.

There is not a shortage of housing, there is a crisis (as there is with wealth) in its distribution.

The international laws you are referring to were put in place in good faith many years ago at a time of turmoil.

But they are no longer fit for purpose. It is apparent that they being abused by illegal immigration, criminal organisations, HR charities, HR lawyers, left wing media and bleeding heart pathetic 'celebrities' for personal advancement and clicks.

Each and every one of the above funded by the British taxpayer

It needs to stop

The international law I am refering to is still in place. Unless you are suggesting we withdraw from it, which even the government hasn't done, then it is the law that applies.

To find out more about it please do watch this video.

twitter.com/crimlawuk/status/1634330359839031301

It would be helpful if you and other posters stopped refering to perfectly legal asylum seekers as illegal.

Unless of course your aim is to prove Lineker's point for him?

If we were talking Japanese men, for example, I'd probably not be quite as concerned.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

I don't hope there isn't anyone Chinese reading this thread.
Some people's grasp of history is somewhat tenous to say the least.

We need to think about the human rights of our own people first. Sorry

@MrsandProud I would be so grateful if you could explain your phrase "our own people" who do you mean by that?

Iam4eels · 11/03/2023 17:29

I'm of Jewish descent and I'm not sick of it being used as a comparison.

Maybe if the government don't want to be compared to one of the worst far right regimes in history then they should stop emulating the early days of said far right regime?

This!

So if your brother for example lived in the UK. You'd stay in France where you don't know the language? Where you aren't allowed to work and where you don't know who is a friend or there to exploit you? Or would you try and get to your brother?

I would stay in France and not try to enter the UK illegally. My family situation and personal convenience is not a something the British public should be concerned with

I must apologise, I was asleep at the time you posted it.

The 1951 Convention on refugees is quite clear that asylum seekers can enter the safe country of their choice with or without documentation by any route you choose. They are not entering the UK illegally.

Please do watch this helpful video that explain the basics of the laws.

Oh piss off with your false equivalences.

The Rape of Nanking was almost a century ago. It's not at all equivalent to current day mass occurrences of sexual assault in countries not at war. Countries which had become safer over the years to then start regressing, unlike Japan where sexual assault has steadily declined.

You are correct the Rape of Nanking is not at all equivalent to what happens on NYE in Germany.

The Rape of Nanking was far worse. There are many in China who have not forgiven it and who would find your post deeply offensive.

Personally I couldn't give a toss about anything that comes out of twat Linekars mouth. Yet another trendy bandwagon for everyone to leap on and show how 'cool' they are.
A lot of these people on boats seem to be young men, why is that I wonder?
I said A LOT not all before someone jumps down my throat.

A lot aren't actually young men.

The photos taken by the media have been proven to be misleading. There's info on Twitter.

Often the pictures you see of men don't show the men and all the woman and children also on the beach or walking.

Also there's statistics available to show the percentage of those who arrive readily if you Google.

My friend once tried to argue they are all Albanian men seeking economic migration. When I told her the actual stay on that she said "well they still shouldn't be here". I agreed with her they shouldn't but the language being used matters and was incorrect.

We can't have a discussion about a situation if people will only talk in rhetoric and not truth.

Is this correct?

Just looking at stats

Overall, males represented 87% of small boat arrivals in 2022.

itsgettingweird · 12/03/2023 07:15

They represented the largest amount of Albanian arrivals. But they have the lowest percentage of accepted claims.

90% of Albanian woman and children get granted asylum compared to just 18% of men.

Overall the successful claims for Albanian asylum seekers if 53% compared to 76% overall.

The statistics take a lot of reading into (all available on gov.uk). But you also have to read past the propaganda intonation if the reporting.

While we are on the subject of being factually accurate.

Can I urge every poster today to watch this short video explaining the laws around seeking asylum. By watching you will save us all a lot of time and reduce the number of posts on this thread.

For those saying refugees should stay in France, we shouldn’t be able to get out of our moral and legal responsibilities because of our geographical position.
Some of the posts on here are incredibly dreadful, regurgitating words of hate and ignorance, Braverman would be proud of you.
But racists are going to racist and fascist are going to fascist.
We should be better than this.

Lots of Tory apologists spouting this nonsense. Trying to silence dissent.

What does that remind me of...

Also... The rhetoric of 1930s Germany was about othering. The Holocaust happened in the 1940s, and was partially able to happen because of the increasing rhetoric and changing laws of the 1930s. It's part of the historical concept known as cumulative radicalisation.

The comparison is accurate.

Yes you’re correct on approvals for Albanians as men often don’t stay for the approval process. Often leaving the accommodation.

The statistic I quoted is accurate and from the gov site and not propaganda

Overall, males represented 87% of small boat arrivals in 2022.

What you’re talking about now is acceptance rates for Albanians only. Which is a bit different to people on the beach or on boats.

The 87% is on boats. The acceptance rate for Albanians is who stays for the process and males are underrepresented in that.

It baffles me. It's clear this has been picked as an issue - with refugees once again as a scapegoat - to distract from domestic issues ahead of any general election.

Regardless of the immigration police, Gary Lineker hasn't got an original thought in his head. He just read that on twitter and decided to repeat it. He's vastly overpaid. This is a great chance to get rid of him. When a woman gets into her 60s, she's given her marching orders. When a man does, they up his wages.
Get rid of him and his old men friends. Start with younger guys. Put togerher a different, fresher format. It's all so old hat.
I'd be happy for both him and Tim Davie to go.

Probably not.

after 25 pages several of them are still referring to people arriving on small boats as “illegal” so they’re either wilfully ignorant or pretty dim

it’s really not that difficult a concept to understand that it is an international human right to see asylum
