To feel genuine grief over a TV series ending?

I've lost my own DC before so I'm familiar with taking the term 'grief' too literally here

But it does feel like a genuine, sad loss.

I'm not even finished the final series yet... there are 6 series and I'm on the final one Sad

I feel so sad I won't get to carry on escaping to this TV series every time I watch it. I'll miss it all so much

AIBU? Has anyone else felt similar over a series?

Can you start from the beginning again? I do this with a few comfort series.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 10/03/2023 21:53

Yeah the only cure is to start from the beginning all over again!

PermanentlyinUAT · 10/03/2023 21:53

What one?

totallybonafido · 10/03/2023 21:53

I felt like that after binge watching all of breaking bad in a month.

FoxtrotSkarloey · 10/03/2023 21:54

Yes, Spooks. I was all consumed by it. Bit weird with hindsight but I was a tad obsessed with Adam and wanted it to carry on in case he came back. The realisation he wouldn't at the end was hard to take and other series with the actor just didn't cut it.

I did get over it relatively quickly though.

Be a floozy, find a new love!

I'm the same OP. Feels like I'm saying goodbye to good friends. I've not finished Schitts's Creek, Friends, Breaking Bad, and most probably not Succession either - so they're still there. My DH thinks I'm slightly nuts!

I binge watched all three series of happy valley over a few weeks I ,m definitely upset it's over .

Dotcheck · 10/03/2023 21:56

A few people have recommended Happy Valley. I take it it's worth a watch then?

My bet it's Schitt's Creek. Felt the same. I loved everyone as if they were my own friends and actually missed them 😔

mnahmnah · 10/03/2023 22:00

You felt like that with Gilmore Girls. I may just watch them from the start again because I can’t find anything else that sucks me in!

WordtoYoMumma · 10/03/2023 22:00

Omg when Lost finished I felt like I'd lost a whole group of friends! Was a definite hole in my life.

I have a habit of rewatching comfort shows so they never have to end 😂 I've watched How I Met Your Mother so many times all the way through I just can't bear to be without those guys in my life

mnahmnah · 10/03/2023 22:00

I felt like that! Not you.

Chenford · 10/03/2023 22:00

Not a tv series, but I did feel a sense of grief when a character left a series after 10 years - in a ridiculous way that completely undermined their whole character development and recent storylines.

Same as you, it left a bit of a hole (I haven’t bothered to watch the series since - can’t be bothered to remain invested when the writers are going to do that sort of thing). I also won’t rewatch as a lot of this character development was about them making promises to stay to their other half so it’s all a bit nonsensical now.

So, I no longer watch my favourite TV show and it’s definitely left a gap.

Never felt like that about any other tv series, and am aware it comes across as a bit ‘deranged’ but 🤷🏼‍♀️

Tomatoblush · 10/03/2023 22:01

I was inconsolable after Breaking Bad ended. I cried.

I’ll grieve Walter White forever, Sons of Anarchy, & Orange is the New Black too. I develop a sort of obsession with certain characters. It’s the same with a book.

RandomMess · 10/03/2023 22:02

Have you watched "6 feet under" I utterly howled.

DoughnutDreams · 10/03/2023 22:02

Happy Valley is definitely worth a watch. I binged it when unwell a few years ago and the new series is just as good.
The last of us has been lovely too.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/03/2023 22:02

I've watched Downton Abbey start to finish many times. I love it. I felt exactly the same.

Sodie · 10/03/2023 22:03

I haven't even watched the final episode of this is us. If I don't watch it, it's not over.

Allmyghosts · 10/03/2023 22:03

I must be odd because I don't feel that way. If some

It was Alex Karev, wasn't it!
If so, I choose to believe he was called to look after his children's project in Africa. It's the only way!

NoraLuka · 10/03/2023 22:05

I know Downton Abbey off by heart because I watch it whenever I feel a bit sad or stressed. It’s the TV equivalent of a favourite teddy 😁

I watched the X files from the start and then they took it off Amazon Prime so couldn’t finish it. Gutted!

Allmyghosts · 10/03/2023 22:05

Great if something gets a fitting finale I feel glad because so many things I love abruptly end sniff. Utopia and mind hunter, 2 series with no fitting conclusion bah.
