Got asked to come into school today to discuss DS. Was expecting more problems but it’s actually that he’s doing really well!!! He’s catching up on his reading (very dyslexic) and has caught up with his maths and is now considered ‘mainstream’ rather than behind! Even his social issues are improving and he’s getting on well with other class members! I am so happy and proud I could cry! Anyone else want to share their boasts?

Brilliant! Sounds like he's been working really hard, hope he gets a nice treat this weekend.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/03/2023 10:05

Aww, this is so lovely, op. You must be floating in the clouds right now. 😊

TomatoSandwiches · 09/03/2023 10:13

Ah how lovely, well done to your boy!

Cocochai · 09/03/2023 10:17

That’s great news! Well done to your DS (and you for supporting him).

My DS(7) is suspected to have ‘dyslexic traits’ and with the Senco involved his y3 teachers and TA have been giving him daily 20 min sessions to try and help him with his phonics in particular, plus daily reading with the TA. In the space of 3 months his reading age went from 6.0 to 7.1 years so we are very pleased too.

Always4Brenner · 09/03/2023 10:19

Thisisformathilda · 09/03/2023 10:24

Awwhh that is not showing off at all, that is celebrating a very big win and hard work from you and your son. Fantastic.

HeartShapedBox · 09/03/2023 10:24

Fantastic 😁

Chocolatelabradorsarethebest · 09/03/2023 10:30

Aww that’s so lovely! I hope you do something special after school to mark it as I’m sure he’s very proud too!

P.s. Nice to have a cheery AIBU for a change and not a repetitive ‘my MIL’s a cow/my neighbour said hello again this morning, how do I stop them constantly harassing me?’ type ones!

PollyAmour · 09/03/2023 10:34

Absolutely fantastic! I’m so happy for you and your boy.

WhooYourHoo · 09/03/2023 10:38

Thanks everyone! I’m sat at work smiling like a crazy person!

@Cocochai amazing! Well done you to you two too!

@Chocolatelabradorsarethebest (love the username!) I love reading a positive AIBU, but the parking and neighbour threads are always my favourite! There are some weirdos out there

How lovely OP! Well done to you and him Flowers

Forgooodnesssakenow · 09/03/2023 10:45

That's amazing, I'll share a boast.

My 5 yr old has a health condition that means he has meds and a hospitalisation a. Few months ago. Since then his behaviour at drs appointments is bonkers, obviously anxiety but presents like climbing the walls, running off laughing, not listening etc. We've been working hard on it and he had to go to a and e yesterday (scarlet fever it turns out). And despite his meds usually making it harder for him and being worried by the kids hospital since his admission he was amaizng. Had to have blood taken and everything. I was so insanely proud of him, he is as so brave and has been taking his yucky antibiotics as well. Honestly I was beside myself, his temp was over 41 and I was also worried he'd recover when the temp went down and be impossible to chase down. Instead he was an absolute angel!

JofraArchersFastestBall · 09/03/2023 10:46

This is wonderful to read OP. I’ve had a similar path with DS15, I know how hard it is.
