Got asked to come into school today to discuss DS. Was expecting more problems but it’s actually that he’s doing really well!!! He’s catching up on his reading (very dyslexic) and has caught up with his maths and is now considered ‘mainstream’ rather than behind! Even his social issues are improving and he’s getting on well with other class members! I am so happy and proud I could cry! Anyone else want to share their boasts?

Well down to your child !

My super kind and wonderful husband with ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia is the most successful person I ever met. He graduated university of London and has been to more than 150 countries in business. There is no doubt he has tried so hard to achieve success. Our teenage child with Autism wants to follow his footsteps.

Well done to you all, including the school!

How wonderful for you and your son!

I'm still smiling after DD16 performed 3 songs on stage for her music GCSE exam last night. She has ASD, ADHD, anxiety and depression and very low confidence, and has been so stressed about this for weeks. She doesn't even really play an instrument but is bonkers about music, and has learned to play the bass guitar in a matter of weeks so she could complete this part of the course. She even volunteered to introduce her band and the songs they were going to play! And a random audience member told her she had great charisma when she came off stage.

I can't even explain what a huge achievement this is! She is utterly wiped out today and is still asleep, but boy was it worth it. I just wish she'd let us go and watch but she was too nervous. Hopefully we'll get to see a recording though! Proud doesn't come close.

This is brilliant!

Not DC related, but my little boast is that I lost a major work contract in December and was so worried about what would happen next. But three months later I've got more work than I can actually fit into the hours I have and I'm earning a lot more! Wish I could go back in time and enjoy my relaxed January without panicking now!!

YukoandHiro · 09/03/2023 11:16

That's absolutely brilliant @MaggieMagpie357 - you must be so proud!

@MRSTokyo thats amazing, and what a good role model! I’d love to travel more

@MaggieMagpie357 you must be so proud of her. I’ve always been jealous of people who are naturally talented at music like that :)

@YukoandHiro fantastic! I’ll accept any boast!

Well done to your son (and you and the school).

My dc has asd, dyslexia, chronic health problems. His secondary school wrote him off and said he'd not manage to pass any Gcses, said he didn't have asd and would be best to look at doing a physical trade (which he'd struggle with because of his health). I moved him schools for year 10, he passed 8 gcses grade 4-6, went onto college passed a btec, got a job and yesterday found out he's got a funded place at university in September via work. I really would love to tell the senco how well he's done, how determined he is, and how much effort it's taken him.
To all those out there fighting for your dc keep going its worth it. I am currently going through it with dc2 and some days so exhausted from the continual merry go round of health, social and educational care but yesterday helped me keep going because its worth it.

Aw @Greenbeans123 that sounds amazing! You must be so happy for him!
