To call the florist and ask for a fresh bunch of flowers

Ok, more of a WWYD than a AIBU. A friend of mine sent me flowers this morning by ordering online. I've been given a bunch roses, hyacinths and carnations and a few other bits all of which look just on the cusp of being on their last legs. They probably wouldn't sell tomorrow and certainly not the day after . Would you call the florist to complain ? I feel they have ripped him off and disappointed me. That said I dont want to disappoint and let him know that his lovely gesture has fallen flat

I will only use a local florist now rather than postal flowers as they are always appear half dead (although yours look ok)!

Clarich007 · 08/03/2023 16:52

I'm so surprised by these photos. I expected to see a withered slimy bouquet.
They look gorgeous to me.

Dodie66 · 08/03/2023 16:58

What’s the problem . The flowers look fine to me

anunlikelyseahorse · 08/03/2023 17:00

I think a quick chop off their ends, properly arrange with a good amount of water and cut flower food, and they will look lovely. They certainly don't look past their best.

Dancingdoggo · 08/03/2023 17:03

Did the florist deliver an extra bunch OP? I hope your friend doesn’t find out and feel upset although I know you were only trying to ensure he got his money’s worth.

Wonder if they look worse in RL than that photo? What made you so sure they were past their best?

latetothefisting · 08/03/2023 17:06

I literally can't see anything wrong with them. I think you should have tried at least putting them in water etc before going straight to complaining!

Ok. Maybe the chrysanthemum things.are meant to look like that? Anyway I've phoned the florists and said not to worry b7t they are having none of it and are sending a replacement.

To whoever it was who said this was a stealth boast why on earth would I do that to a bunch of strangers online over a bunch of flowers lol?

Hope you are pleased with yourself. There is clearly nothing wrong with these flowers and you have just scammed a business out of a second bunch. I also hope it is not a small business.

I spent £75 on flowers for my friends birthday and asked for the biggest bunch of white flowers as they are her fave... so not hard to bulk up. She sent me a lovely text with a pic saying thanks and i nearly fell of my chair. It was tiny and mostly gypsophelia and leaves. £15 worth at best only..3 roses. Its such a bloody gamble.

Oh dear, seems they rely a lot on receivers not wanting to offend the sender, therefore not raising it.

OP, your flowers look fine.

Countmeout · 08/03/2023 17:15

The stocks and mini daffodils/narcissus are fully out. Difficult to tell about the roses. The tulips are further out than I would buy them at. We have a naice local florist shop that does similar bunches with that type of greenery for an arty wild effect. They are over £30 ( often well over) and often don’t last more than a few days. I probably would have just said nothing though, it’s a bit difficult but well done for saying something op . Places will continue to send things not quite up to scratch if everyone was like me. We actually don’t buy from it any more because they don’t last so either way the small business will be out of pocket.

I thought this too.

The florist sounds lovely immediately offering to send out another bunch. They weren’t to know that the flowers are nothing like the OP described.

The flowers are fine, certainly not on their last legs at all. Really unfair on the business.

Pinkespressomachine · 08/03/2023 17:20

Hi OP - you mentioned hyacinths but I don’t see any in your pics, there are stocks however which don’t travel well & have a tendency to look a bit crumpled at the best of times - they do smell lovely though!

They all look ok to me but if your first reaction was disappointed then you haven’t done a terrible thing by contacting the florist…

Dahlietta · 08/03/2023 17:31

They look fine to me too. Now, @LondonElle , that is a shite bunch of flowers for what you paid!!

tothelefttotheleft · 08/03/2023 17:35

@Hotvimto3

I hope you complained or got a partial refund.

Nolosomi · 08/03/2023 17:37

I like lots of green in my bouquets.

BasketFlowers · 08/03/2023 17:39

Your bouquet looks absolutely fine to me.

Are they from Bloom and Wild? Flowers from there do arrive looking a little withered and then perk up beautifully in water and last for ages.

Garrie · 08/03/2023 17:45

They are okay

ireallycantthinkofaname · 08/03/2023 17:49

wow this is so ungrateful

ShakespearesBlister · 08/03/2023 17:49

I can't see what your problem is either? I would have been delighted to get these. Seems more like an expectation problem?

Emmamoo89 · 08/03/2023 17:49

Do it. Take a pic and send it to them

Bideshi · 08/03/2023 17:56

They're lovely, and yes, the chrysanthemums are supposed to look like that. The trend is for quite a lot of greenery. Like it because It's easier to make a more natural; arrangement. Wondering what on earth you expected OP?

ginghamstarfish · 08/03/2023 17:57

I had this once, from a local florist just a mile away, when my MIL kindly sent me flowers. They were fully open on arrival but the next day were dying off. I called them and got a VERY frosty response rather than an apology, and a begrudged new arrangement. Gave them an accurate review on their FB page.

Flymetothetoon · 08/03/2023 18:11

I'd be thrilled to receive those - you must be quite high maintenance OP

TheChosenTwo · 08/03/2023 18:23

They look really nice imo, certainly nothing to complain about, and the foliage looks really interesting!

magicthree · 08/03/2023 18:27

I'm struggling to see what's wrong with them?

Crinkle77 · 08/03/2023 18:28

Yes I did that when I got a poor bunch of flowers from Bloom and Wild. I followed the instructions but they were shabby so contacted them and got another bunch. Still wasn't overly impressed but they were better. Didn't tell the person that gave them to me.
