To call the florist and ask for a fresh bunch of flowers

Ok, more of a WWYD than a AIBU. A friend of mine sent me flowers this morning by ordering online. I've been given a bunch roses, hyacinths and carnations and a few other bits all of which look just on the cusp of being on their last legs. They probably wouldn't sell tomorrow and certainly not the day after . Would you call the florist to complain ? I feel they have ripped him off and disappointed me. That said I dont want to disappoint and let him know that his lovely gesture has fallen flat

I'm pretty sure your chrysanthemums are the daisy-like variety and are supposed to look like that. 😬

Daechwita · 08/03/2023 16:11

Huh? There's absolutely nothing wrong with them.

Suzi888 · 08/03/2023 16:12

Need to see a photo of the replacement bunch. They look ok, lot of greenery though.

WeCome1 · 08/03/2023 16:12

Yeah, the daisy things look fine to me.

Triflenot · 08/03/2023 16:12

FLORIST
I would be surprised if they cost less than £20. There’s a variety of flowers in there including roses, and delivery on top to pay for.

Floralnomad · 08/03/2023 16:20

They look ok to me , florists often put lots of greenery in and the actual flowers look fairly bright

Fairylightsandstuff · 08/03/2023 16:23

They don’t look like they’re on their last legs but what a horrible selection of flowers, that florist hasn’t got a clue or he hates you 😂

yourenotthebossofmenowandyourenotsobig · 08/03/2023 16:24

I think they look ok!

Dintananadinta · 08/03/2023 16:25

Can't see anything wrong with them. I bought flowers online once and they looked terrible. After putting them in water they looked great.

Girlking · 08/03/2023 16:25

Bouquet looks lovely and fresh, tulips aren’t even open. I like the greenery too.

GraceandMolly · 08/03/2023 16:27

The tulips haven’t even opened yet, I don’t think this was a complaint worth.

ItsCalledAConversation · 08/03/2023 16:27

This happened to me, I was sent a planter from M&S Flowers, it arrived looking like someone had drop-kicked the box from a great height. I didn’t want to offend the gift-giver so I rang M&S and explained the problem. They basically shrugged and said unless I wanted to tell the gift-giver that I didn’t like their present, there was nothing they could do. You might not get much different a response from a local florist.

Girlking · 08/03/2023 16:27

I was expecting to see a picture of a bunch of withered flowers!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/03/2023 16:29

I'm a florist, they look completely fine to me. The ratio of foliage is standard, to be honest. You'd be paying a fair bit more than £20 for that in London where I am too... Grin

Derbee · 08/03/2023 16:32

I’ve been looking at the photos, and then looked again. I’m shocked that you’ve complained. It’s such an ugly response to a nice gesture to
a) make a fuss over nothing
b)make a small business send you a totally new bouquet
c) potentially insult your friend by complaining, and having them admit that they chose a cheaper bouquet etc etc

It’s all just so unnecessary and spoilt

Oddbutnotodd · 08/03/2023 16:36

I think the white flowers are jarring in that arrangement. I think there is a real issue that the florists know that the recipient will usually not complain. I have received flowers which were not the senders choice . Didn’t even have the florist name on them just the umbrella company’s name so I couldn’t complain .

LondonElle · 08/03/2023 16:38

I would be thrilled with this bouquet and
Embarrassed that they are sending another one to be honest!

Everycloud23 · 08/03/2023 16:39

I really can’t see what’s wrong with them.

I just had some from moonpig and they were much sadder than those. I did think of complaining but I haven’t as I don’t know how much they were but they are definitely inferior to any I would see in Tesco.

WimpoleHat · 08/03/2023 16:41

I have received flowers which were not the senders choice

My aunt was very, very particular about flowers and basically only liked white ones. When my grandmother died, she sent a bouquet to my mother. If arrived and could’ve been described as “tropical sensation” or something like that - they were all bright orange and yellow. My mum phoned and said “I know this isn’t what she ordered…..”. They at least admitted it!

Hotvimto3 · 08/03/2023 16:42

Bluepuffa · 08/03/2023 14:49

Bloom and Wild flowers arrive looking past it, but are described as “asleep”. Once arranged in water they are superb, look beautiful and last for ages

Absolutely not in my experience. My two lovely friends sent these to me recently, 2 separate bunches. They were an utter disgrace. Skinny sad mess of flowers not even a bunch never mind bouquet. Didnt get better in water or in sun. I was so sad for my friends. They spent a lot and a £2.99 aldi bunch would have been much nicer. I tell everyone to avoid these like the plague.

LondonElle · 08/03/2023 16:42

This is a floral display I complained about.. paid £50 for this sent to my widowed aunt..... I would have loved for her to have received the bouquet you did!

To call the florist and ask for a fresh bunch of flowers
TerribleInsomniac · 08/03/2023 16:46

I was going to say I’d phone the florist
But I think the flowers look beautiful.
If you think they’re past their sell by then phone.

Hotvimto3 · 08/03/2023 16:47

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 08/03/2023 15:29

I had a friend who when she sent flowers, asked me to send her a photo.
Found it bizarre but it was so she could see if they were what she paid for and have evidence to complain if needed.

I spent £75 on flowers for my friends birthday and asked for the biggest bunch of white flowers as they are her fave... so not hard to bulk up. She sent me a lovely text with a pic saying thanks and i nearly fell of my chair. It was tiny and mostly gypsophelia and leaves. £15 worth at best only..3 roses. Its such a bloody gamble.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 08/03/2023 16:47

The greenery is what sets the flowers off when you display the whole bunch properly. I think that bouquet is fine OP and do not know what you expected. If I had received it I would have been more than happy and I worked for a florist so do have some knowledge.
To me - the greenery is what makes a bunch of flowers more natural

declutteringmymind · 08/03/2023 16:47

It's not enough to complain about. It will depend on what your friend asked for and how much she paid.
