To call the florist and ask for a fresh bunch of flowers

Ok, more of a WWYD than a AIBU. A friend of mine sent me flowers this morning by ordering online. I've been given a bunch roses, hyacinths and carnations and a few other bits all of which look just on the cusp of being on their last legs. They probably wouldn't sell tomorrow and certainly not the day after . Would you call the florist to complain ? I feel they have ripped him off and disappointed me. That said I dont want to disappoint and let him know that his lovely gesture has fallen flat

They look fine to me. Not on their last legs at all.

I presume you don't know how much your friend spent. If it's just a basic bouquet then there will be quite a lot of greenery to pad it out.

I think you've been pretty unreasonable actually. If the florist is a small business then I imagine that the realities of the current economic problems are making things pretty tough. You've just made things even tougher. Instead of enjoying a lovely gift from a friend you've made a fuss about nothing instead.

Derbee · 08/03/2023 15:06

I don’t see what you’re comparing about. They look lovely. I also don’t agree with everyone complaining about the amount of greenery, when they have no idea how much was paid.

Mixing some flowers with a larger amount of greenery, is a decent way of making something that looks pretty, affordable for many.

pisssinginthewind · 08/03/2023 15:07

They're fine? You just need to arrange the greenery so it frames the flowers.
Those flowers are absolutely fine. Apart from maybe a touch too many green bits, I don't see what's wrong with them at all.

Rowthe · 08/03/2023 15:09

They look nice to me

ODFOx · 08/03/2023 15:12

I also think that they look fine. Pop them in water snd when your second bunch arrives tomorrow you will have a massive display!

BIGB00BS · 08/03/2023 15:12

If you take a lot of that greenery away and put the flowers together in a vase with only some of the green, they would look like a nice bunch of flowers. The flowers themselves are lovely. Just too much green going on. Currently looks like a bouquet of privets 🤣

neilyoungismyhero · 08/03/2023 15:13

Slightly different but I got some seemingly lovely flowers the other week from Tesco. DH picked and ran. They were on their last legs and definitely weren't cheap. I sent him back to get a decent bunch.
No reason you shouldn't do the same.

Member869894 · 08/03/2023 15:14

Ok. Maybe the chrysanthemum things.are meant to look like that? Anyway I've phoned the florists and said not to worry b7t they are having none of it and are sending a replacement.

To whoever it was who said this was a stealth boast why on earth would I do that to a bunch of strangers online over a bunch of flowers lol?

Agreed, particularly the small business aspect. They look lovely to me, and if that's rosemary then will smell good too. Perhaps you can forcefully tell florist you don't need the replacement?

Namechangehereandnow · 08/03/2023 15:20

They’re beautiful, literally nothing wrong with them! Confused
So either the photos make them appear far better than irl, or you’re deluded, or it’s some bizarre stealth boast as said earlier 🤷‍♀️

ShimmeringShirts · 08/03/2023 15:28

The flowers look perfectly fine, YABU here.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 08/03/2023 15:29

I had a friend who when she sent flowers, asked me to send her a photo.
Found it bizarre but it was so she could see if they were what she paid for and have evidence to complain if needed.

Do it and tell them they should avoid hurting the feelings of the sender.

Don't let them get away on it because they're relying on recipients not saying anything to avoid upsetting the sender.

This. I had the same problem and complained directly to the florist who apologised and sent me a new bunch of flowers.

I'll be a contrary voice saying I like the amount of greenery! I'm not a fan of cut flowers in general and one of the reasons is how unnatural it looks to have just a vase of blooms separated from the foliage. Your pics look like a glimpse through a gorgeous tangle of flower garden - and now you'll a second bunch too.

ProjectsGalore · 08/03/2023 15:33

Gosh I think they look like a lovely gift and not at all on their last legs. Some people are hard to please!!

FL0RIST · 08/03/2023 15:35

As a florist, I agree the ratio of green is too much. However, the flowers are fine and I wouldnt complain if I received these. I'd complain if I bought them and paid anything more than around £20 for them.

NeedToChangeName · 08/03/2023 15:52

They look fine to me

goingtotown · 08/03/2023 15:54

I've always been disappointed with online flowers.

azlazee1 · 08/03/2023 15:56

I would tell your friend and let them call and complain to the florist. Florist may be willing to replace, or discount the purchase to satisfy their customer.

Itsrudemeghan · 08/03/2023 16:01

They’re absolutely fine

OheeOheeOh · 08/03/2023 16:02

You got another bunch sent when those look perfectly fine, I hope this isn't a small business your friend bought from? I could understand if they were on their last legs, those clearly aren't.

100%

They count on those receiving gifts not complaining when they do this. It's shit.

Kitchenette · 08/03/2023 16:04

They look ok to me. Re the greenery- I'm guessing the sender was on a budget and asked to keep the cost down.
