Did I just hear Sunak promise to investigate inappropriate and unsafe sex education in school?

I don't really listen to priminister questions, but I was just channel hopping waiting for the kettle to boil

So IABU to dance a little dance?

YABU - no you misheard, he didn't say that/ he said it but it is meaningless

YANBU - yes you heard it, yes it means something, dance away

My son is 13, he’s seen porn. Not in a lesson but his friends sending stuff etc.

So I’ve had to talk to him about it, explain what it is and why it’s unrealistic. It’s such an important conversation.

I can see why schools would want to cover this. I can also see that some parents don’t as they’re embarrassed or in denial. So they’d rather complain about the fact that schools are trying to tackle it, than advocating for much more stringent measures to restrict access to porn.

Rainbowshit · 09/03/2023 12:16

Now you've completely lost the plot. 🙈

I have because I get so cross about the idea of people twisting my words.

And for someone else who asked, I actually stand with JK Rowling if you must know.

TeenDivided · 09/03/2023 12:19

But are schools 'try to tackle it' or are they (or external providors) 'normalising' it. That is one of the things that should be reviewed.

Is it political allegiance?

I don’t get the reluctance and am trying to see why

But some think porn is normal…. I don’t, I think it’s abhorrent. That’s a national conversation that needs to happen.

So why, if you think porn is abhorrent, are you ANTI an investigation into the fact that there are reports that some children are being taught about chocking and anal sex in school.

The position of being anti porn and flat out denial that this could be an issue or there shouldn't be an investigation is illoglical.

And gender. We know that this is being taught in schools. We know schools have been infiltrated by lobby groups and told to socially transition. If your views align with JKR then logically you would want an investigation into how an 11 year old boy was sent out of a classroom for querying that there are 72 genders.

So forgive me but you are not making sense.

Believeitornot · 09/03/2023 12:25

I do feel a bit stupid, stumbled into a bizarre universe where people think all civil servants have been indoctrinated (they haven’t), that all kids are being taught about how great porn is (no they’re not), that our children will end up in Tavistock square (they won’t).

Rational thinking has gone out of the window.

It isn’t ok for schools to tell all their students about it on the basis that some kids have had a safeguarding fail in their lives and have seen it.

A major part of the issue seems to be that it is being talked about in some schools as a positive choice without the aspects of serious harm being properly covered. Same with anal sex.

Do you know the buttons CTRL+F?

please use them to find the post where I said I’d like to have an independent investigation into this. 😊 If on a phone, you’ll just have to scroll back.

You’re welcome. IT lesson for the day over.

Rainbowshit · 09/03/2023 12:26

Believeitornot are you actually thinking anyone on this thread thinks porn is a good thing?!?!!

Sex education absolutely must talk about porn and its negative impacts. I don't think anyone on this thread would disagree with that.

I'm honestly baffled by your position that there shouldn't be an investigation into inappropriate sex education. It's clear there is an increasing number of parents raising this as an issue. Why do you think they should be ignored?

Child safeguarding is paramount.

Then let’s investigate these examples properly then! And why not look at the regular RSE materials while we are at it.

No. I'm afraid it's you who is not thinking rationally.

Thank god you're not in charge of child safeguarding.

Leave it to the grown ups please.

It is a bizarre universe but unfortunately you are waking up to the real world.

Fwiw I’m sure there are civil servants that definitely don’t agree with the ideologies they are taught but there are too many in positions of power that silence the dissenters.

As I have already said, no one has claimed all kids - some kids. Not all kids.

4000% more young people are on their way to the Tavistock so…

Have a read of this. We know this organisation is going into schools.

You still can't see the issue?

Definitely this. I've sat in training watching and knowing that the people who stay silent, do not agree. But they do not speak up because they're afraid of being targeted or losing their jobs.

Your position is not entirely clear.

At 12.07 you said you wanted us to 'prove it first' before the investigation and you have been bemoaning the bias of the 'report'.

You said it is not needed because 'guidance would be enough'.

You claim that none of it is happening anyway.

Are you having an about turn?

And nice way of deflecting from the questions I asked in my posts.

Slippery is the perfect adjective.

Grantanow · 09/03/2023 13:00

I suspect it's a ploy to attract election votes from pearl clutchers. Most schools are very cautious about sex education. Remember it was the Tories who criminalized teaching about homosexuality - a disgraceful move.
