You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

The whole point of digestion is that it burns up the food you've eaten and then you need to eat again!

Interestingly there's a lot of emerging evidence suggesting that your digestive system actually benefits from not constantly digesting. So I'm not sure we all really 'need to eat again' as soon as any food has been digested?

Sennelier1 · 06/03/2023 18:11

After a regular hot meal at noon(ish) I like a cup of soup in the evening, maybe with a sandwich. After a really big meal (a roast or a rice table or such) I don't need any food in the evening. But every person is different, so I'll happily cater for anyone in my family still wanting something to eat 😊

Lozois99 · 06/03/2023 18:13

I wouldn’t but my DC would

Well, I didn't say as soon as. But I'd definitely be hungry again by my normal sort of dinnertime (7.30–8).
I'm just a bit saddened by those on here feeling they need to say they're greedy or fat if they'd eat again. I don't consider myself 'greedy', and I'm definitely not fat. I'd just eat again because I'd feel hungry and need to.

The beauty of a roast is returning to pick at the leftovers in the evening surely. I don't overthink whether I want to eat again, or how much if I do, and claiming any given preference is inherently better or healthier is bonkers. Just eat if you're peckish, don't if you're not!

wentworthinmate · 06/03/2023 18:17

I’d want something even if small.

CauliflowerBalti · 06/03/2023 18:20

We’d get some crumpets in, or maybe make a fish finger sandwich to eat at about 8pm.

Most Sundays though I do the roast at tea time, and we have a late breakfast so only two meals. I think in theory it’s enough calories but in practice your tummy wants something on it before bed. So if it concerns you - move the roast to teatime.

I'd eat again but just a sandwich of Cereal or something easy and quick.

user1472151176 · 06/03/2023 18:25

*or

Blankspace35 · 06/03/2023 18:25

we have our sunday roast at 2 and normally about 8 some crackers or cheese on toast. Ive been known to make a sandwich with some of the leftover meat too

HeyBearILoveYou · 06/03/2023 18:27

Surely it is obvious that you have the remaining roast potatoes and gravy (that you did extra of, especially for this purpose) at about 9pm?

user1472151176 · 06/03/2023 18:27

I never have bread with my roast dinner but what a brilliant idea!! Game changer. I'll be trying that next week!

Oscarsdaddy · 06/03/2023 18:29

Always used to eat Sunday lunch about 1.30pm and I’d always have a sandwich and some tea & cake about 6.30pm too so YABU from me.

now always have Sunday dinner about 6.30pm and a snack at around 1pm.

Heyhoitsme · 06/03/2023 18:31

Cheese and crackers for supper.

LaDamaDeElche · 06/03/2023 18:31

A sandwich or something, yes.

MyNDfamily · 06/03/2023 18:34

I'd probably have a snack. Kids would probably want to eat, but a big roast with pudding is a lot. I'm actually overweight and wouldn't want more food. Maybe people who are very slim need more food. Personally I wouldn't have more.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 06/03/2023 18:34

No. Why?

incywincyspidery · 06/03/2023 18:35

Not a meal, but definitely a snack or a slice of toast or something.

I don’t get why a roast had to be a bigger than usual meal. Surely if you ate any meal at 2pm, you’d want something later in the day?

When I have a roast, it’s the same amount of food as I’d have of any other type of food.

Exactly this, and the idea that having had a huge lunch you would need bread as well is crackpot. I would eat the same amount as usual and then have my evening meal.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 06/03/2023 19:00

Maybe the OP doesn’t need bread, but wants it.

OneTC · 06/03/2023 19:01

Depends. I eat when I'm hungry not based on the time I last ate.

I've definitely had food at lunch time and not wanted to eat again in the evening but that tends to be very rich heavy food, also pizza makes me not want to eat for ages. What you described isn't a light meal obviously but also not guaranteed to see me through.

<waves> at @00100001 fellow bread and gravy eater. (is it a London thing?)

We had 3 veg plus the roasties. It was broc, carrots and cauli.

It's gospel up here in the north east! Best bit of a roast 😍

T1Dmama · 06/03/2023 19:10

Everyone is different OP… if you don’t want to eat again then don’t, but if others do then that’s normal.
mot also would depend, if I had a huge cooked breakfast then a roast I probably wouldn’t be hungry again… Howeber if we are going to my parents for a Sunday roast I usually don’t bother having breakfast so I have ‘room’ for the roast at 2pm…. I would then definitely be peckish again by bedtime and have a yogurt or something.

LovelyLisa2 · 06/03/2023 19:10

No I never eat again after a big meal.

ididntwanttodoit · 06/03/2023 19:15

No. Certainly not a meal. maybe some cheese and crackers around 9?
