You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

Yes but something like jam toast or cheese crackers and apple, not a full meal.

maddy68 · 05/03/2023 19:53

Yes of course! Not a main meal but at least a jacket spuds

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/03/2023 19:53

Yes I would especially if we had opened a bottle of wine, but it would be the equivalent to a standard lunch so a sandwich or some cheese and crackers.

MrsJBaptiste · 05/03/2023 19:53

Yes because a 'Sunday Dinner' is rubbish and I'd want something decent to redeem it later that night!

gogohmm · 05/03/2023 19:54

But I've never heard of bread with a roast!

Lozzalou9191 · 05/03/2023 19:54

I’d have the roast at 2pm, then have pudding about six….that way it’s TECHNICALLY the same meal 😍
profiteroles with gallons of cream or a jam sponge and custard. YUM

Lodgeornot · 05/03/2023 19:55

I'd probably have what we'd call a 'foldwich' growing up at 7/8 o clock. One slice of bread with a splash of some form of sandwich filling and folded in half.

Rewis · 05/03/2023 19:56

If I've eaten at 2, I'd need to eat something in the evening.

LikeTearsInRain · 05/03/2023 19:56

No definitely not. Roast meat with its protein and fats. Roast potatoes done in oil or fat. All the marinated veggies. Yorkshire carbs. Gravy on top of it all. That’s a lot of calories. Maybe some fruit or a small snack around 7pm? But the roast would be my big meal of the day.

toastfiend · 05/03/2023 19:56

I can pretty much always eat more, but I'm lazy and wouldn't want to cook again so I would generally have toast or cereal or something.

Zanatdy · 05/03/2023 19:56

Unless on a diet (then nothing as that would be my calories for the day) then I’d have a bowl of cereal or slice of toast

<waves> at @00100001 fellow bread and gravy eater. (is it a London thing?)

We had 3 veg plus the roasties. It was broc, carrots and cauli.

Not a London thing.

Surely it depends what you've eaten at 2pm ?!

Because too many women think that admitting to wanting more food after a decent sized meal is some kind of cardinal sin.

A lot of this thread is purely semantics over what constitutes "a meal" or even "eating" proper — it seems most people would ingest some additional foodstuff before sleeping, but some describe it as "Yes, I'd have a light meal, just a sandwich or cheese on toast/crackers or some crumpets", some "I wouldn't want a meal, just a snack like [exact same type of foods]", and some "I wouldn't want to eat again, I'd just have a snack". Most of the snacks people have mentioned are things I'd call light/small meals if eaten at a mealtime, with the exception of fruit or a couple of biscuits with a cup of tea, and I guess that a lot of the things I'd be categorising as a (light) meal I'd eat in the evening after a big lunch are things that others would consider a snack.

I guess now I know that when people say "I won't want to eat again today after that", sometimes by "eat" they mean "sit down to a cooked main meal".

You said ‘no definitely not’ then went on to say you’d have ‘fruit or a small snack’. Is that not food?

BungleandGeorge · 05/03/2023 20:04

Eating a large meal at 2 and then starving yourself is disordered eating! It’s not healthy to skip meals, you should have something later on even if it’s a sandwich and yogurt or something light.

SallyWD · 05/03/2023 20:04

I wouldn't but I do intermittent fasting so I often have a big meal quite early and then don't eat again until the next day.

CambsAlways · 05/03/2023 20:05

Yes I’d still eat

I'm struggling to imagine managing to eat that much at 2pm that I wouldn't feel like eating anything for the next 12h before going to bed. But yes, it is possible that it could happen. You got me there.

IntentionalError · 05/03/2023 20:06

Honest answer : When I was a fatty, I probably would have had a sandwich & a pack of crisps in the evening, followed by a couple of mugs of tea with chocolate biscuits.
Now, after a lot of effort, I’m a healthy weight and I’m absolutely determined to stay that way, so the most I would have is some fruit.

Reddahlias · 05/03/2023 20:06

Perhaps you might read up on intermittent fasting?

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/03/2023 20:07

Last week we went and had a carvery about 4pm. Didn't eat again until 3pm the next day. Just too full!

Mentalpiece · 05/03/2023 20:08

I had a full roast at 13.00.
At 18.00 I had some trifle and now I've just had a cheese toastie.
Of course I'd eat again after a roast if I was hungry.

WisherWood · 05/03/2023 20:09

Thing is, if you finish dinner at 3pm, and then don't have breakfast until 7am the next day, that's 16 hours without food. Unless you're doing some sort of time restricted eating, that just doesn't seem like a good idea. It's perfectly normal to want something else in between. I have three meals a day - 2 smaller and one larger. I don't skip any of those meals. So I'd have something in the evening - probably toast and marmite.

Jeez, how much did you eat that it kept you full for nearly 24 hours!!
