You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

Bowl of cereal or toast etc

Guis23 · 05/03/2023 19:36

I would possibly want something.
If being greedy I would raid the leftovers.
If not that greedy I might want some crackers and cheese.

Really?
At the end of dinner - slice of white bread plonked onto plate and a bit more gravy poured on and spread around and press it to soak it up and ... yum 😄

The best thing about a gravy dinner!

Reddahlias · 05/03/2023 19:38

Surely it depends on how big the roast meal at 2pm is - if three courses with a huge dessert finishing at 4pm then I'd probably be full for the day!

Bettyboop3 · 05/03/2023 19:39

I had a McDonalds at 1pm and thought i'd need something else later but i'm still not hungry now (very unusual for me though)!

Sorrynotsorry2 · 05/03/2023 19:41

Yeah I would have something, a snack of some sort , sandwich packet of crisps etc

winningeasy · 05/03/2023 19:41

Cheese and crackers

OnlyFannys · 05/03/2023 19:42

Personally I struggle (despite my best intentions) to eat very much in one sitting as it just makes me feel horrible, so even being faced with a massive roast I will only be able.to eat until I feel full and therefore not any more than I would eat for a normal meal. I'd probably want something fairly light in the evening tho

Mykittensmittens · 05/03/2023 19:43

We tend to eat a sightly larger breakfast on a Sunday (scrambled egg on toast, maybe some mushrooms or tomatoes) then don’t eat again till 5pm when I serve a roast which today was chicken, one stuffing ball, two roasts, small
scoop of mash and brocolli/carrots. No one will want anything else, but equally didn’t between 9.30am and 6pm (banana, maybe).

if we eat any earlier than 5, then around 7 we’ll have tea and cake. Which I wouldn’t have as I don’t ever eat sweet things - I just don’t enjoy cakes/puds/biscuits etc.

how the heck am I so fat ? 🤣

Inastatus · 05/03/2023 19:44

It would depend on whether or not I was hungry ...

Noicant · 05/03/2023 19:44

Yeah cheese and crackers type of thing. After a big roast dinner it’ll take about 6 hours to get hungry, nirmal meal its about 4-5 hours

Fairislefandango · 05/03/2023 19:44

At the end of dinner - slice of white bread plonked onto plate and a bit more gravy poured on and spread around and press it to soak it up and ... yum.

Yuck. Dh does this. I'm not a fan of soggy, wet bread, personally! Wipe up a bit of gravy with bread or briefly dunk it in soup, sure. But a slice of bread fully soaked and gone all pulpy in wet stuff, nope.

Maybe I’m being pedantic but I don’t understand replies like this. The OP asked if people would eat something else that day and a lot of the replies have said no, but then gone on to list the food they would eat…

Because too many women think that admitting to wanting more food after a decent sized meal is some kind of cardinal sin.

VestaTilley · 05/03/2023 19:45

Yes. A light tea of a couple of sandwiches or cheese & biscuits or crumpets etc at around 6pm.

Inastatus · 05/03/2023 19:48

cheese and crackers are a good call, with a nice glass of wine.

Reddahlias · 05/03/2023 19:49

Surely it would depend on 1) how big the lunch was (how many calories) and 2) how active I've been that day??

If I'm hungry I'd eat another meal, if not I wouldn't. I don't really understand why you're asking this without any context Confused

Goingoutdancing · 05/03/2023 19:49

We had lunch about 3.30 and I've already got pizza in for DD. We'll likely have a toastie later

Couperi · 05/03/2023 19:50

I'd definitely want to eat again. Roasts don't seem to keep me filled for long.

Reddahlias · 05/03/2023 19:50

It would depend on whether or not I was hungry ...

Exactly

Season0fTheWitch · 05/03/2023 19:51

We usually have baguette and butter after a sunday roast. We'd wait around 6 hours though.

WetLettuce2 · 05/03/2023 19:51

Who has bread with a roast dinner ?!!

And no, tea and biscuits at most.

Reddahlias · 05/03/2023 19:51

Roasts don't seem to keep me filled for long.

I think we need to define 'roasts' ..?!

gogohmm · 05/03/2023 19:51

Cheese and crackers is our go to

Beepbeepenergy · 05/03/2023 19:51

Yes my full sunday dinner is at 3pm and I’m snacking on all sorts right now as I’m starving lol

While the veg is being prepped for the roast I bung some in the slow cooker and start a soup. I have 3 teenagers and a hollow legged husband. So Dinner (roast) was at 2. Now at 6:30 they're all eating veg soup and fresh bread. It means I don't have to cook again and there is something for them whenever they suddenly decide they're starving again.

Now that is an extremely good idea... and I'm pinching it! Grin
