What on earth were they thinking?!

Hardly ever tick ‘allow substitutions’ on my online shop because of past experience, however I didn’t want to risk no wine and I’m not too fussy.

AIBU to think this was a ridiculous substitution? There must have been 20+ different white wines in the price range I’d selected, yet for some unknown reason the person picking this shop decided to an Alcohol Free bottle was the closest match.

Worst still DH didn’t notice it was an alcohol free bottle and accepted the substitute Angry

What on earth were they thinking?!

Maybe their religion forbids them from touching a bottle of alcohol so they just do this instead?

ConcordeOoter · 09/03/2023 16:06

Wtf. Why did they send alcohol free wine, had they run out of piss?

TheGoogleMum · 09/03/2023 16:10

One Christmas the turkey I ordered was substituted with a loaf of bread for some reason

Macinae · 09/03/2023 22:32

I would be livid! We all know how much choice of other white wine there would have been?!

Then I think they are in the wrong job!

I'm a team leader for a home delivery department. Last week one of our drivers flagged that a customer had ordered pizza and it had been subbed with cream scones 🤣🤣 my colleague remembered doing the pick.

What happens sometimes is that we don't have the item ordered maybe don't have the first sub it suggests and then it goes onto the next item. Then you carry on picking.

When the items come up it says substitute in quite small writing very easily missed and it isn't always obvious what it's the sub for.

We have quite a low pick rate tbh but the pickers are expected to do minimum 180 items an hour so there isn't a lot of time to stop and think. Other supermarkets are higher than us going up to 225 an hour. Plus pickers start any time from 3am so that doesn't help 🤣🤣

It's never intentional... personally I always try for a sensible substitution but when we have new people in they just do as the handset tells them 👍

Oh now it makes a bit more sense why some of the subs are weird if it's automated by the system and pickers have minimum targets. I knew pickers used a handset but thought were left to make sub decisions themselves.

We can make a free choice but tbh we have to reject several other subs to get there and frankly there isn't always time. Plus we aren't really encouraged to think independently 🤣🤣
