if thw police or ambulance knocked the door right now would your house be OK to let them in?

if there was a fire (not blocking exits) or a family emergency/ trip to a and e needed right now could you get out of the house or everyone dressed and out relatively easily and quickly?

Yes and yes

FadedRed · 28/02/2023 22:33

Yes and yes.

GuppytheCat · 28/02/2023 22:33

Including pets? We have rather a lot of cats right now, and I might struggle to carry the fish tank…

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 28/02/2023 22:33

When you say "would your house be ok to let them in" do you mean is it clean and tidy, or am I doing something criminal?

RunningFromInsanity · 28/02/2023 22:33

Yes and yes.
I mean, the lounge could do with a hoover and the dishes from dinner are by the sink but in an emergency I doubt that would matter.

Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2023 22:34

Yes. why?

TakingTime2 · 28/02/2023 22:34

Well in an emergency it would have to be, I don't understand what you mean?

Fairislefandango · 28/02/2023 22:34

Yes and yes. Easily.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 28/02/2023 22:34

Only me at home. I’m in bed in my pjs but could let emergency services in or get myself out and to A&E quite easily.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 28/02/2023 22:34

We are the ambulance, and our neighbour is fire. DH works with the police on his ambulance so if any or all of them knocked on the door my main problem would be finding enough biscuits for them.

ClimbingRoseBush · 28/02/2023 22:34

It’s a bit untidy but obviously if there’s an emergency you just let them in. If someone needs an ambulance, why would you give a shit about whether you’ve loaded the dishwasher?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 28/02/2023 22:35

Yeah, I’m kind of confused about the question….

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/02/2023 22:35

Yes and yes but I don't really understand the first question

ToLongToCharge · 28/02/2023 22:36

In an Emergency the police or Paramedics are not going to worry about the state of a house if it was messy / untidy / Dirty etc
Unless ofcourse there was some kind of abuse / neglect happening

LaurieFairyCake · 28/02/2023 22:36

Who would care about ANYTHING when there's an emergency Confused

My house is filthy, couldn't give a fuck

KievsOutTheOven · 28/02/2023 22:36

If the police or ambulance are required I don’t care if there is a kilo of heroin sitting on the sideboard (there isn’t, by the way) - if there is an emergency, it comes first.

If there is a fire, I’d grab my family and leave even if we were all as naked as the day we were born.

If we needed to go to a&e I’d stick shoes on adults and go as we are. Eldest dd would grab her slippers and we would grab the baby.

thankyouforthesun · 28/02/2023 22:36

I'd be worried about getting all my pets into carriers without them fighting. How bad is the fire? Just wondering if the chickens will be safe enough in their coop or if I need to pack them too...

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 28/02/2023 22:36

Yes, and yes.

perhaps the better question is could you let a colleague or neighbour in?

only thing I would have to do is secure the dogs away. They are friendly, but there’s rather a few of them and I think it’s important to have animals shut away in an emergency like police or paramedic attendance.

AloudAlot · 28/02/2023 22:38

Has something happened to you or a loved one that has got you pondering all this?

Deanandthellhounds · 28/02/2023 22:39

I'll go first,
my downstairs isclean but upstairs a mess so if there was a fire right now there might be tripping over toys, standing on lego trying to get out. kids are in pj's but I'm in vest and knickers (anyone remember pe in nursery?) so I'd have to get dressing gown on.

if police or ambulance had to come in, I'd be fine of they dated downstairs bit I would be embarrassed if they went upstairs (to the loo or something)

I don't have a hospital bag ready if we ever needed to go quickly. when my son fell off his bike and suspected he broke his arm I went to a and e right away but had to run home to grab a bag first, no change in the house for vending machines or quick snacks or drinks to take so we went to the shop first (approx 12 hour wait, we were there for longer)

Another time the ambulance people came in and I had my Dirty washing next to the washing machine and a big pile of washing to fold on the sofa. I don't even know why I was embarrassed but I was.

Erm… well if it’s an emergency then yes I’d have to let them in and it wouldn’t bother me what the house looked like - and as someone who has worked in emergency services in the past - trust me - in an emergency they don’t care if your house is untidy / a bit dirty!
The second question - we could probably all leave the house fairly quickly but I don’t live my life in a state of high alert waiting or trying to be ready for an emergency. If there’s a fire - we have fire alarms and escape routes - I trust we’ll be fine.

I meant clean and tidy but now I mean criminal. Confess!

In a real life or death Emergency
People really wouldnt care about mess / Dishes / laundry etc

User473831 · 28/02/2023 22:41

Is this like the riddle with the farmer and the boat who needs to carry corn, chickens and the dog but can only take two at a time?

Because whilst the dogs can go on the boat with the chickens, I’m not sure the cat would share with anyone and I don’t have corn, only layers pellets at the moments and the dogs are just as likely to eat them.

XenoBitch · 28/02/2023 22:41

If I need the police or ambulance, then the last thing on my mind is the state of my house. They would be there for me, not to tut at some crumbs on the carpet and dirty dishes.
Both attend to me a lot, and believe me, I do not put the hoover round before they turn up.
