Smoking weed in Amsterdam

Cousin and his friend are going there for a few nights. They're pretty young. They've said they're going to smoke weed over there as it's not full of crap like here. They haven't smoked any since very young. I said they're stupid as they don't know what effect it'll have. Plus they have responsible jobs. What if they're tested at some point? It stays in your system for a while.
Does anyone have any info or links I can send them? They're lovely lads. I'm hoping they're just winding me up?

Well I don’t know why everyone is being so reasonable about this. We all know one puff of the devil’s lettuce is a gateway drug and next week they’ll be shooting heroin in an Afghanistan back alley.

Weed is so unlikely to effect them in a 'dangerous' way - the most that they'll feel is a white-out, and that's genrally if they drink alcohol while smoking.
Weed will not make them loud, lairy or aggressive (unlike alcohol)
How do you think the people who live in Amsterdam manage - do you think there are maurading hoardes of people rampaging up and the streets?
Good on them - am envious!

Good grief! It’s your cousin (who I assume is an adult) not your minor child. Where I live marijuana is perfectly legal. So it doesn’t have the excitement and air of danger about it that people in the UK attach to it. Relax. It’s no more harmful than alcohol. Do you react the same way when your cousin goes to the local boozer?

I don’t like smoking it but I’ve hr er been a smoker. But a nice edible after work is something I like to do to relax. Never affected my career.

There’s nothing to suggest they do - whose employers actually do? Very few I’d imagine. If their employers do that’s their problem isn’t it. OP can leave that with them given they’re grown ups.

That's good that you all think they'll be ok. I've never smoked it. The only people I've seen are locals who stink of skunk.
Just hope if they do it they don't drink.

The jobs would be too outing but they'd definitely lose them if drug tested.

I love to party just never needed drugs. I suppose it's so conmon now it's becoming normal.

After all, half a lager shandy and lime is a gateway to neat vodka then making your own moonshine from potato peelings and shoelaces

Jesus firstly yes it's better weed there. It's legal so regulated , secondly wtf does it have to do with you ?

I also live in a country where weed is decriminalised. (We have a very very low crime rate too) It's not the problem you think it is.

I have no interest in weed or other illicit drugs (whatever the new term is for them) never tried them never will

But I leave others to do what they want, I dont need to police other people's choices or lecture them

I know it's common in Amsterdam I've been there for a week. I'd love to go back one day it's beautiful.

Generally companies do not do 'random' drug test unless they have specific concerns about individual employees. Most of the organisations I have worked for have some kind no alcohol policy but it does not stop mangers and staff from having a few lunchtime drinks on a Friday.

The only warning I would have is that some of the hash cakes or ready made joints sold across the counter can be very strong. I have seen more then a few idiots go for the strongest product on offer in order to show off only to find themselves puking their ring up in the gutter 30 mins later and spending the rest of the weekend in bed.

@DanseAvecLesLoup that's more my concern. The strength of it compared to what they may have tried when younger. I've sat in the cafes and felt high just by being there. It did smell better than the crap in our streets though.

Anyway they'll have a fantastic time I'm sure.

OP ignore all these people saying you are an uptight busybody - you are looking out for your younger cousin and that is a good thing. While of course you don't expect them to be sitting in a library while on a lads break, it's true that the weed in Amsterdam is probably much stronger than what they might get anywhere else and they need to be careful and look out for each other. Not forgetting that any travel insurance will be null and void if they are stoned and have an accident/end up unwell there. They need to have fun but be sensible.
