How are prices STILL going up? I went in for a couple of meals and lunches for the week for just two of us and spent £50. I'll be back there before the end of the week. How on earth are people with big families, teens that eat them out of house and home etc, coping?

I did likewise this afternoon, some fresh fruit and veg, fish, other bits =£50. 🙁 Oh a tub of ovaltine for DH = £4 😮

pavillion1 · 27/02/2023 17:54

i did £120 today in tesco thats with zero toiletries

Botw1 · 27/02/2023 17:54

Loads

It feels like double.

Isseywith3witchycats · 27/02/2023 18:01

18 months ago for two of us average monthly food bill £150 with just top ups of bread, milk etc, now £300 for same food

Buzzer3555 · 27/02/2023 18:02

I did 95.00 on Friday and have just popped in for a few bits and it came to another 30.00 it's Aldi as well so supposed to be cheap. Me dh and two grown up children living at home

KateStev · 27/02/2023 18:13

I used to spend approx £80 a week on food for me, DH and two primary age children (no alcohol as we don’t drink).

I now spend £100 a week and that’s with almost no meat/fish and no ‘luxuries’.

ODFOx · 27/02/2023 18:20

I spent £97 this week. That's with a freezer and larder full of food already but some bits needed as we had guests at the weekend.
It really feels as if I bought toiletries, salad bits, a tub of yogurt, a block of cheese, some bread and kitchen roll and it came to almost £100. Absolutely bizarre. There was hardly any 'proper' food.
Hopefully I'll be able to make a better determination next week . I'm finding it too hard to follow the food shortage and price trends.

stargirl1701 · 27/02/2023 18:22

I just spent £175 an hour ago for 2 adults, 2 children and a dog. All food for the week plus alcohol and cleaning products/toiletries, etc.

Eye watering.

kitsuneghost · 27/02/2023 18:25

2 adults. About £100 a week

AlwaysLatte · 27/02/2023 18:31

About £250 a week. Four of us. Including two teens, one into lots of protein, everyone likes lots of fresh fruit, berries, smoothies etc. That does also include cleaning products, wine, bird seed, some toiletries and lots of packed lunches.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/02/2023 18:32

I have switched to online and do collect at Asda, i eek meals out, I make a weeks shopping last 8 days, stopped doing a Sunday roast etc. We have definitely down branded (never big on brands before but have switched to value ranges for a lot of items). The children both have hot dinners now so tea times they will have sandwiches/egg on toast etc rather than a main meal. I am trying my hardest to get under £100 a week but that includes pet food x 3 cats and all toiletries and cleaning products. This week I made last weeks shop do 9 days, spent 105 this week but that will do 7-8 days for the 4 of us, plus 3 cats. I also give DD at uni 25 a week for her food bills.

Forever42 · 27/02/2023 18:35

Family of 4 - at least £150 a week for food, household stuff, most toiletries etc. Usually go in for a top up shop. I've been trying hard to keep an eye on it, buy v.little meat and fish but it's hard to keep the costs down. I do spend more on some convenience stuff as I work full time and have DC with lots on so just can't be making everything from scratch.

afinishedkiss · 27/02/2023 18:37

About £250 a week sometimes more. 3 adults, one teenager, no booze and not including pet food. Shameful.

PuttingDownRoots · 27/02/2023 18:41

I spent £50 today including shampoo.

Thats dinner for four for 2 nights and 3 for 2 nights. Lunches and breakfasts for four days for 3 people.

OldTinHat · 27/02/2023 18:42

Just me, was £40 every two weeks 4yrs ago. Now, £40-£50 a week.

TheGriffle · 27/02/2023 18:44

I used to spend £70-£80 at Asda, including cat food & litter (2 adults, 2 kids, 2 cats)

Now I spend between £90-£110 in Aldi with cat food and litter an additional £10 every week or so.

Supersimkin2 · 27/02/2023 18:44

Inflation 9 per cent, my arse.

29 per cent more like, more on a lot of food.

BounceyB · 27/02/2023 18:44

I'm not thinking about it. I try my best by buying stuff on offer, down branding and ban myself from top-up shops - there's nothing more I can do. Last week was £120 for me, 2 teenagers and a dog. Used to be £100. What's worse is that I've noticed portions are shrinking as well. I swear half a leg of lamb used to be bigger.

Leakingtoilet · 27/02/2023 18:44

Far far too much. Probably about £180 a week for 3 adults and a 4 year old, and that is mostly in Lidl. 1-2 bottles of wine a month, no pets but the 2 adult males are hardcore meat lovers. Hard to be exact on the figure as all 3 adults buy stuff for the whole house, although I buy about 80% I would say.

Lordofmyflies · 27/02/2023 18:49

4 adults to feed in our house - I spend £150 on the weekly shop, without meat. Ive stopped buying supermarket meat as it was getting up to £220 a week. Now I buy half a pig or lamb from a local farming friend and freeze it. I also do 3 'cheap' meals a week like omelettes (we have hens), or toad in the hole.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 27/02/2023 18:49

About £650 a month for 4 of us, but that does include cleaning products and some toiletries. We’re not eating lavishly at all, it’s so expensive.

Cosycover · 27/02/2023 18:50

I'm about 400-500 a month now. Used to be 300 odd

StrawberryWater · 27/02/2023 18:53

About £90-100 a week for 2 adults and one child.

It used to be a lot, lot less.

Fundays12 · 27/02/2023 18:54

Family of 5 with 2 cat. Our food bill has gone through the roof. I have started meal planning again, cut right down on snacks, trying to make less expensive meals as 2 dcs eat hot meals at school most days so could have scrambled egg and toast etc at night. I have cut back on buying spare snacks, take aways etc and we are easy £100 to £120 a week.
