How are prices STILL going up? I went in for a couple of meals and lunches for the week for just two of us and spent £50. I'll be back there before the end of the week. How on earth are people with big families, teens that eat them out of house and home etc, coping?

i’m so glad others are posting over £200! I’m between £200 & £250 depending on what toiletries we need but it’s all food (my kids take packed lunches) including snacks & drinks & all household stuff. We do buy fizzy juice (me) & some crisps & biscuits etc but no alcohol. Most non branded stuff bar the treats & coffee. I could cut down on some of it but at the minute i haven’t but every week i go in & notice pretty much everyrhing up by 10/20p sometimes more. We also buy a lot of fresh fruit & veg, salads, cheese etc & although i meal plan i don’t necessarily do “cheap” meals & sometimes i’ll grab a pizza deal & not think “oh thats £12” so on the whole as much as i grudge paying it i’m not ready to cut back or change how we eat but i will if it keeps up.

TBH i’ve never had cheap shops i used to be £150-£180 even when we had a dog too so theres still been a big jump each week. 2 adults & 3 kids

JunkinDonuts · 01/03/2023 00:41

I've just spent almost £200. No toiletries, cleaning stuff, fruit, meat or fish in that.
By the time I've bought the meat and fish, that will be another £60 plus.
Two adults and a big dog.

Crumpetdisappointment · 01/03/2023 06:30

after all i did another shop yesterday
bringing my february average to £64 for a week, ,january £67 a week
two adults.
i cook plenty of vegetarian meals, beans and lentils
i buy frozen salmon/frozen beef/frozen chicken

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 01/03/2023 06:45

£80/£90 a week. 2 adults here and a cat. And that’s mostly without cat food (as it’s never in stock, have to get it separately) and without tomatoes etc (AS NOT IN STOCK. Grr!) and without toiletries. Last year was around £60/week, including cat food, salad stuff and some toiletries. Bloody shocking.

How come you do vegan sometimes but not others? Is bacon for the kids? I am leaning towards vegan options but not too passionate about it, I do fish anyway.

I think it's probably cost. If the nice pork sausages are on offer then we'll get those and if the Vegan ones are on offer I'll get them instead.

But I only like the Vegan Richmond ones! I haven't been brave enough to try any other types! 😂

We either use bacon or chorizo. Chorizo lasts ages as its so flavoursome! But sometimes I get both just so we have backup bacon butties for a weekend breakfast!

Again with quorn mince - when it's on offer we stock up as it's lovely in a chilli (leftovers on jacket potatoes the next day!!)

But we prefer beef mince in a bolognese.

My bank app is telling me I spent £550 in both Jan & Feb, then milk & more is on the top of this for milk and juice. 2 adults and 2 teenagers, one who has grown 3” in 6 months and clears the cupboards as fast as I fill them!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/03/2023 16:27

Around £120 a week 2 adults,ds 9

Nosandwichfilling · 03/03/2023 16:29

£100 per week.
3 Adults and a cat, cat food is bought in bulk as is litter so that additional cost is about £10 per week.

Meandfour · 03/03/2023 16:34

Family of 6 including a newborn. The last 3 weeks we’ve spent between £190-£200.

I don’t buy cleaning products on my food shop so these are additional costs and we have 1 takeaway a week. Usually eat out on a Sunday but didn’t this week due to a family meal at MILs.

BluebellBlueballs · 03/03/2023 16:41

We budget £180 a week, family of 4 and 2 cats

Disneygirl37 · 03/03/2023 17:01

£120-130 main shop then probably another £25 on a top up.

Disneygirl37 · 03/03/2023 17:03

3 adults and 1 teenager- £120-130 on main shop and then usually £25 on a top up shop at some point during the week.

womanwithissues · 03/03/2023 17:08

I spent £130 at Lidl yesterday. Me and four teens. Probably £10 on booze and chocolate for me so I can cope with the teens. I will still have to buy milk and fruit during the week.

Pickingmyselfup · 03/03/2023 17:09

We spend roughly £600 a month for 2 adults and 2 kids although that doesn't include the cleaning things, toilet rolls etc and some food bits like cheese and squash.

We could cut it down because I do buy expensive food like smoked salmon and steak every now and again and I drink a fair bit of wine but we don't go out really so it seems fair enough in my eyes. I also shop at Morrisons mostly with the odd Co-op and Sainsbury's Local thrown in for the little bits like milk, bread, wine.

hookiewookie29 · 03/03/2023 18:17

£130 a week on average- this includes toiletries, loo roll, cleaning stuff etc.
Was only just over £100 a few months ago and no matter what we do we can't get it any lower.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2023 20:23

Ha ha. Given a notebook

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2023 20:24

Ignore that. Wrong thread

iloveyankeecandle · 03/03/2023 21:40

I can get it down to about £85 a week. But that's a take on top and also hot dinners for primary school child. I've had to start meal planning which really helps but also I've had to change what sort of dinners were eating to cheaper options.

S72 · 03/03/2023 22:08

£50-60 per week for two, excluding cat food and litter.

I meal plan and batch cook.
