Please don't wear this. It looks tacky and tarty. Too much on show.

Ugh, for this comment alone please wear it.

jackstini · 26/02/2023 22:18

Love it
I'm 50 and would absolutely wear it

Shoes are ok, but not fabulous, and I wouldn't wear the 2 things together

Would do heeled shoe boots instead

FunnysInLaJardin · 26/02/2023 22:18

Go for it OP, you are only 50 once and if not now, when?!

ArianahX · 26/02/2023 22:19

Well I like the playsuit & I think some platform sandals would suit it.

HamstersAreMyLife · 26/02/2023 22:19

Love them both, I wouldn't wear them together as I like a contrast but if you feel happy in them both then go for it. Looking forward to seeing the pic tomorrow. I think its an outfit you need confidence to wear and I hate being told I'm too old for things now that I have the confidence.

ghostyslovesheets · 26/02/2023 22:15

But why is wearing a silver playsuit 'I'm mad me' ffs - it's just a jumpsuit - in silver

Wearing it over 49 somehow suddenly becomes attention seeking - the OP is tallish and size 8 - she will look fab

More importantly if SHE likes it and feel good in it - that's the issue

Not all of us want to waft around in silk two pieces and I bet Gillian would rock that outfit

It made me laugh about the comment re Gillian Anderson in The Fall, I mostly remember her wearing silk blouses and trousers, hardly party clothes, office wear perhaps but certainly not my taste for a 50th birthday outfit.

DelphiniumBlue · 26/02/2023 22:20

It's not that it's too young , it's that I don't know any 50 year olds that have the legs for that. Even if they are slim and toned, peoples knees start looking different at that age, and personally I wouldn't want to draw attention to that by wearing such a youthful, short outfit, as the juxtaposition flags up the difference.
If it was longer, then maybe, or a different , more grown up shape on the shorts, then possibly ,if your legs are good.
Or if you don't give a damn about not being 100% perfect, and you clearly love the outfit and will probably sparkle in it, then go for it.

Weatherwax13 · 26/02/2023 22:20

You'll look fabulous @PyongyangKipperbang
Have a wonderful night. Are we still using the word "tarty" ffs?
I'll be 50 in a couple of months and i think its a really celebratory outfit. Kylie wore a sheer dress and sequins at Sydney Mardi Gras and she's older than us so why can't you?

cherish123 · 26/02/2023 22:21

Perfectly acceptable. You are obviously slim. Shoes seem quite high so maybe carry spares.

ImAGoodPerson · 26/02/2023 22:21

ArianahX · 26/02/2023 22:19

Well I like the playsuit & I think some platform sandals would suit it.

Agree platform sandals, or at least strappy ones even if not platforms. The closed in shoes are frumpy in comparison to the playsuit.

MargaritMargo · 26/02/2023 22:21

No I don’t think you are too old to wear it. It’s not a high fashion look - which are generally reserved for the younger folk.
I would say a sparkly play suit / dress is more of a classic, as in it can be worn at any special occasion and doesn’t follow the trend (not saying its unfashionable, just that its not cutting edge of style).
For a big birthday and a posh wine bar, sure why not! If you love
it and feel good, that really is all that counts.
Carrie Bradshaw is 50+ and definitely still wears a sequin.

LilylilyDaisy · 26/02/2023 22:22

Yes to the playsuit. It's great. And the shoes, if you like them, although I think you could try many different styles on including heeled ankle boots to see what works best. But they are nice shoes, so if you like them and you think they go well in terms of overall balance then definitely yes too.

Ultimately if you can't wear that outfit on your 50th birthday, when can you?! Just go for it. And have a brilliant time Flowers

Fansandblankets · 26/02/2023 22:22

i would if I was slim 100%.

Goingtobee · 26/02/2023 22:22

Love it and think you definitely should! (May have just bought one for myself …) have a fab time!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/02/2023 22:23

How do people manage to stand up in heels line that. Let alone put one foot in front of the other? I'd be communing with the floor within seconds.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 26/02/2023 22:23

The thing that puts me off the playsuit (and I am weirdly particular about details on clothing so can be ignored by the less weirdly particular amongst us!) is the ruffles round the wrists - I wonder if they will look a bit much on a petite lady?

I found two similar items, one with a lantern sleeve, one slightly flared sleeve, from either end of the price spectrum: H&M for £22 and Harvey Nicks for £475 😅

Anyway, depending on your arm length I’d maybe consider unpicking the ruffle or swapping the playsuit for something similar (dependent on time available, obvs!)

to wear this for my 50th?
to wear this for my 50th?
LilylilyDaisy · 26/02/2023 22:23

And PS. My wardrobe has quite a few outfits that I didn't wear and never will for one reason or another, so I say go for it, with no regrets!

Pipsquiggle · 26/02/2023 22:24

I like the playsuit.

I don't like the shoes, they're quite dated and don't really match the outfit.

As long as you feel confident and fabulous - wear what you want

VivietteConstantine · 26/02/2023 22:24

Absolutely 100% not too old - if you love it, go for it and have a fab birthday 🥳

FilthyforFirth · 26/02/2023 22:27

Love the dress hate the shoes. If you have the figure, not too old. Enjoy!

DustbinDimberflake · 26/02/2023 22:27

Love the play suit, hate the shoes with it. The shoes make it into a backing dancer's outfit. You don't need matchy matchy, the shoes would look better black in my opinion.

soboredoflooking · 26/02/2023 22:28

That will be lovely and the shoes are nice too. Think will be lovely on you, go for it!

Eyerollcentral · 26/02/2023 22:28

I think anyone over 30 would struggle to pull this off. You’ve a great figure by the sounds of it and there are much more fabulous outfits to celebrate your birthday in than this. It’s a no from me

Tiddler39 · 26/02/2023 22:32

100% yes.

And please don’t style the playsuit with ankle boots instead as PPs have suggested! It will really date it and you’ll look like you’re trying to be cool. I’d personally go for strappy shoes.

TheFretfulPorpentine · 26/02/2023 22:32

I think it needs leggings or something on the bottom half.
