You will look beautiful! Happy birthday!

I'd not wear any outfit that my any of my children could look better in.

What a soul destroyingly depressing and joyless rule.

my DDs are bound to look better than me in anything being young and slim and lithe and gorgeous. Does that mean I should wear a bin liner?

and I know for 100% certain that both of my DDs would be absolutely devastated if they thought I thought like you do for a second.

Iknowthis1 · 27/02/2023 01:12

Playsuit - Yes
Shoes - No

PatsyJStone · 27/02/2023 01:14

Wear it! With whatever shoes you like - nothing wrong with the ones you've chosen.
Wear it and enjoy your special night.
There may be jealousy but just smile and stay upright if possible!

The Q is.....do I send them back?!

Absolutely bloody not!! If I had the figure, I’d wear it. Ignore the haters (especially the idiot trying to correct your username 🙄) - you’ll look badass!

MissConductUS · 27/02/2023 01:19

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/02/2023 21:10

If I am feeling brave I might post a photo of me in it tomorrow!

Please do. The dress is fine and 54 quid is a good price.

You'll look lovely.

wandawaves · 27/02/2023 01:21

Absolutely wear it!
There's some really sad comments on this thread. As for the one that said "it's a bit 'look at me'".... well yeah... it's her 50th! It's a cause for celebration, and OP will obviously be the centre of attention, coz it's her birthday!

The shoes I think are too matchy, but I don't think they'll look bad as such. I'd go for a nude strappy heel personally. I don't understand the obsession with ankle boots on MN, but I'm not in the UK, maybe it's a cold climate thing.

Have fun OP and happy birthday!

inigomontoyahwillcox · 27/02/2023 01:24

If you're set on the shoes could you go for another colour? I think silver and silver is a bit too much.

Partyandbullshit · 27/02/2023 01:36

It’s a no from me. Nothing to do with age, everything to do with the outfit.
I don’t think that would look good anywhere other than Eg Coachella, massively dressed down and filthy. Probably because I absolutely loathe the smart/ dressy/ glitzy/ glamorous (hate the word)/ sexy look, especially on women who have clearly “dressed up” for the night. If you’re going to glam, it has to be outrageous or not at all. Either full-on couture, drag queen, guns blazing Met Ball dressy where everything is about how you look, or Primark minidress, godawful impossible to walk in heels or trainers, smeared make up and evidence of the best night of your life, where the way you look couldn’t be less the point. Both these looks have integrity. “Trying” for one or the other has none.

Partyandbullshit · 27/02/2023 01:37

Also, the correct response to a post like mine just now, would be “fuck off with your judgemental bullshit, I’ll wear what I like”. Max integrity!

Partyandbullshit · 27/02/2023 01:38

So basically - wear what you like! Happy birthday!

CockSpadget · 27/02/2023 02:12

Are you fuckers like too old! Plenty of “celebs” 50 and over wear this kind of outfit all the time and look fab as, so why not you! Especially for celebrating a milestone birthday. Hope you have the best time!

StoppinBy · 27/02/2023 02:16

Oh my goodness, Yes, go ahead and get your sparkle on.

It's your birthday and a big one at that, if it's not hurting anyone then you should please yourself on your 50th.

Full disclosure... I love glittery stuff (my kitchen is matte black tiles with glitter grout) and I'm all for dressing up for fancy dress at any opportunity lol.

Honestly though, if it makes you happy to wear the dress and your feet wont fall apart from wearing those shoes, have at it and ignore any negativity. YOLO and all that jazz.

I genuinely dont understand this

Wear it, its fabulous. Have a fun party!

Seems fine to me, it's your 50th, truss up and enjoy your night!

I agree. My dd would also look better in a bin liner but that really doesn’t matter. I was going through dd’s French book with her yesterday and she wrote in French ‘my mum is very beautiful’. It brought a tear to my eye as I don’t think so, not anymore… I never thought of myself as beautiful, pretty perhaps. So I asked her and she said, yes, she thinks that. It just reminds me that our loved ones are the people most important to us, not the judgments of strangers, who think we are too old for x, y or z.

I hope you have a fab 50th Pyononyang.

No one understands it. I hate to say this but it’s completely bonkers. And. If you take any notice of it you’ll go the same way.

ilikepinknblue · 27/02/2023 02:48

Wear it with confident. You should set an example for those who think women above 40 should wear boring clothes

ilikepinknblue · 27/02/2023 02:52

Findyourneutralspace · 26/02/2023 21:32

I wouldn’t let age stand in your way! If it’s good enough for Kylie…. 😍

I was thinking of Kylie too 😀

StalkedByASpider · 27/02/2023 03:45

To be brutally honest OP, I don't think any of us can answer your question with any accuracy.

You sound as if you have the figure for it, but that's not what you asked. Some 50 yr old women would absolutely slay in this outfit and look stunning. Others - despite being slim - would look awful in it, like they'd dressed up in something from their DD's wardrobe. And that's because whether it's ageing or not is really all about your personal style, and your overall look.

But in theory, there's absolutely no reason not to wear this. Not everyone will love this outfit, and that's fair enough. But if you're asking if it's a definitely no-go for a 50 yr old - absolutely not. I'm going to suggest that the fact you're even considering wearing it means you've got the style to pull it off without looking awkward. I'll bet you look amazing.

Sorry to add my vote to the pile but I really didn't like the shoes for this outfit either. I think with the outfit they are a little dated, because they're very matchy matchy. They're lovely shoes, just not with the playsuit imo, for the reasons you asked re being ageing.

But having said that, the shoes are "fine" even if they wouldn't be my choice. I honestly suspect you'll be turning heads in the outfit for all the right reasons and no one will even notice your feet! Enjoy.

ireallyliketheboy · 27/02/2023 04:45

The outfit looks ok in the front picture, but when you look at the picture taken from behind then I do think it may be inappropriate for your 50th birthday.

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but I'm giving you my honest opinion!

Dita73 · 27/02/2023 05:25

You MUST wear this outfit on your birthday! You love it,you’ve already bought it and I guarantee in 10 years time you’ll look back with huge regret if you don’t. You’re going to be 50 and the one thing you should do by now is not worry what other people think. You definitely have the figure and height for it but ultimately it will come down to how you wear it,ie with confidence or being self conscious. I say get it on and hold your head high. You’ll look and feel great and have a fantastic birthday. Life is far too short. GO FOR IT!!!

Oblomov23 · 27/02/2023 05:43

I like both play suit and shoes. I think they are appropriate for a cocktail bar. Very sad to read all the comments. If I had OP's figure I would've worn it for my 50th, last month.
