So as context I live in the middle of nowhere so I expect to have limited options when ordering a take away and that’s ok I expect that. I also expect to pay more for delivery -again fine.

Tonight I ordered via a popular app so they know my address

Takeaway 1 accepted the order, money was taken called me pretty much straight away saying they had looked at the address and I was to far away - frustrating that they cannot refund me for 3-5 days but ok

Takeaway 2 accepted the order, money was taken and I got an email (pure luck I checked it) cancelling it about 30 mins later again another refund in 3-5 days

by this point I’m rather hangry with a house full of hungry teens

Takeaway 3 I thought I would be clever and called them they were happy but charged me extra for delivery which I was ok with. When the food did arrive the driver had a go at me for living so far out of the way.

Im now out of pocket £370 which to be honest I don’t really have going spare and hope the £240 is back in my account before my rents due on the 1st but am I being unreasonable to expect if they advertise as delivering to my area or in the case of restaurants 2 and 3 take the order (and charge extra for delivery) to get our dinner and not be shouted at about how far away I live.

add on I remained very polite and thanked the driver but feeling so grumpy (tho less grumpy now I have eaten.)

What the fuck cost £370?

PleasantZen · 25/02/2023 20:56

Yeah that's really shit of all of them

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/02/2023 20:57

You ordered £120 of takeaway???!!

Rainbowsandmiracles · 25/02/2023 20:58

3 lots of take away lol £240 of it is the first 2 that will be refunded but it’s teenage birthday celebrations hence lots of hungry teens

BernadetteIsMySister · 25/02/2023 20:59

Why are you spending so much on a takeaway if your budget is so tight?

Rainbowsandmiracles · 25/02/2023 20:59

yes but in fairness I have 17 people in the house at present

Three times over? Despite knowing order 1 and 2 wouldn't be immediately credited and you have bills coming out in a few days?

And no food?

Rainbowsandmiracles · 25/02/2023 21:00

affording it once isn’t the issue it was for a special occasion it was paying multiple times and not turning up which was the issue

Yeah why didn't you just drive to the supermarket after the first one

Why did you keep ordering it though

MrsElm · 25/02/2023 21:01

17 in the house for a teenager's birthday, why did you not do your homework first? 🤔 😲🤷‍♀️

Mammyloveswine · 25/02/2023 21:02

Wtf did you order for £120?!

Crunchymum · 25/02/2023 21:02

So you live in the middle of nowhere and you struggle with take away options and you are hosting a birthday and you didn't think to call a few places yesterday to place an advance order and make sure they could deliver?

Yes £240 will be refunded but not for 3 to 5 working days. So maybe not in time for your Wednesday bills.

Crappy planning on your part OP.

BernadetteIsMySister · 25/02/2023 21:03

So what will you do if your rent can't be paid?

Rainbowsandmiracles · 25/02/2023 21:08

Transfer from savings xx financially it’s not the issue just grumpy to have had the same issue 3 times even after I called

There teenagers there’s lots of snacks they won’t starve but it’s also not pizza and I would not leave them in the house alone not sure I trust them that much lol we haven’t lived here long honestly when the apps came up with loads of options to order from I never thought it would be an issue.

SalmonEile · 25/02/2023 21:10

I think you’re getting a hard time here-
the apps should have better address checking systems so they can’t accept your order in the first place , maybe email them some feed back

the delivery driver absolutely should not have shouted at you , he can go shout at his boss for accepting the order
and I’d be tempted to leave a bad review for that or just not order from them again

Ilovehamandtoast · 25/02/2023 21:18

Goodness me. Why do people feel the need to pick the op apart every single time. 😩

I'm sure you're pissed off but hoping the hungry teens bellies are now full. Enjoy the birthday celebrations 😁🎊

Yeah this . Not many have this luxury.

NoCatsToday · 25/02/2023 21:21

YANBU

It is not the amount it is the fact that they say yes then no and then you don't get your money.

FWIW if we have Chinese a takeaway for 8 adults it comes to circa £120. That's what it costs.

Blablablanamechangagain · 25/02/2023 21:24

Why is the OPs financial situation of any concern to anyone?

The point is, twice her money was gladly taken but then orders not fulfilled.
3rd time some jumped up delivery driver thinks he has a say.

Glad you got food in the end. If it was just eat or deliveroo, they are normally pretty fast at refunding. I tend to stick to leaflet through the letterbox places now, even IF the "big 3" say places deliver, it's either rejected or is stone cold when it arrives.

brawhen · 25/02/2023 21:24

OP crack on with the birthday celebrations, I'm sure you've got the rent issue in hand.

I would be pissed off with that service from the takeaways. If you have the energy, I would email the app people to complain. Instant taking money and then a 5 day refund is not on.

I was just going to ask why so much hate towards @Rainbowsandmiracles she knows what she can afford.

ironhelp · 25/02/2023 22:00

I don't understand why everyone is getting so worked up about what you can and can't afford.
I understood your post and I completely agree with you. The app should be set to cover the distance so you can't order delivery from somewhere that won't deliver to you. I have had similar happen to me.
When hungry, it's really irritating!
Hope you are now enjoying birthday celebrations
