So as context I live in the middle of nowhere so I expect to have limited options when ordering a take away and that’s ok I expect that. I also expect to pay more for delivery -again fine.

Tonight I ordered via a popular app so they know my address

Takeaway 1 accepted the order, money was taken called me pretty much straight away saying they had looked at the address and I was to far away - frustrating that they cannot refund me for 3-5 days but ok

Takeaway 2 accepted the order, money was taken and I got an email (pure luck I checked it) cancelling it about 30 mins later again another refund in 3-5 days

by this point I’m rather hangry with a house full of hungry teens

Takeaway 3 I thought I would be clever and called them they were happy but charged me extra for delivery which I was ok with. When the food did arrive the driver had a go at me for living so far out of the way.

Im now out of pocket £370 which to be honest I don’t really have going spare and hope the £240 is back in my account before my rents due on the 1st but am I being unreasonable to expect if they advertise as delivering to my area or in the case of restaurants 2 and 3 take the order (and charge extra for delivery) to get our dinner and not be shouted at about how far away I live.

add on I remained very polite and thanked the driver but feeling so grumpy (tho less grumpy now I have eaten.)

YANBU - I'd have been really pissed off with the delivery guy too!

When organising my BFF's Hen Do, I needed to organise delivery from 2 different take aways for 45 people, on 2 consecutive nights.

We were staying in quite an "out of the way" place, so I did my research first, and called a few takeaway places to see if they would be happy to deliver, and chose a couple who said it was fine. I was very organised and took menu options well in advance, so placed the 2 orders a full month before we needed them. I called again a week before, then again on the Thursday before the weekend, to make sure it was all going to be fine - the last thing I wanted was nearly 50 tipsy women, desperate for nourishment and me having to tell them we only had nuts and crisps!

Anyway, all was well, according to the phone calls and we'd all chipped in for a tip for the delivery drivers, who were going to get a healthy £25 each.

On the first night, the driver turned up and came and knocked on the door and said "Food's in the car.", and walked back to it, opened the boot to reveal the bags of food, and got in (the driver's seat, not the boot...)! I managed to grab a couple of hens to help me carry it all in, but we decided he hadn't earned his tip!

On the second night, the delivery driver arrived full of smiles, wished the Bride to be "Congratulations!", and although I did help him bring the food in (there was LOADS, to be fair), he did most of it - so he went home with the full £50 tip, and he was very grateful, but he deserved it!

This was in the first post.

The OP has since clarified her finances aren't an issue. Good for her but why say they are? Odd.
