What is this hideous virus?

Litwicklettuce · 22/02/2023 22:12

Has anyone else had this hideous illness?

Day 1 - Horrendous painful cough, horrible taste in mouth, consequently extremely sore throat

Day 2 - I couldn't stand up for more than 5 mins without feeling like I was going to faint. Aches and pains all over. No appetite.

Day 3 - could stand up again, cough not as painful, feeling as if I'm getting better. Small appetite.

Day 4 - Full blown cold. Can't believe it. Just as I thought I was getting better. Fed up.

It's not like a normal illness. It keeps mutating and changing. DC has it too and the same thing is happening to them.

Probably covid. I’ve had it for two weeks and it got worse not better so I did a test and lo and behold

Whu · 22/02/2023 22:16

Wel I’ve not heard of those exact symptom but if I had to guess then my top 3 would be…
Covid?
Bad seasonal cold?
Flu?

Hope you feel better soon whatever it is.

Scutterbug · 22/02/2023 22:16

Covid? When I caught it at Xmas (2nd time), I felt like you. The feeling faint was horrendous. The cough lingered for weeks too.

JodiePants · 22/02/2023 22:17

It's probably just a bad respiratory infection. Don't overthink it.

Silversalt · 22/02/2023 22:17

Yes, I lost January to it. Still got the dregs 6 weeks later. Not covid.
I haven't been so I'll since I was in hospital with covid in 2021.

Ididanamechange · 22/02/2023 22:19

This is exactly what I've got at the moment- started with cold symptoms on Friday and woke up Saturday feeling dreadful. I had bursts of energy for 15 minutes or so barely had the energy to sit up. I've had the most awful cough since then as well. Hope you get better soon OP

Litwicklettuce · 22/02/2023 22:19

We had the same strange illness at Christmas and it wasn't covid.

Nooshoos123 · 22/02/2023 22:22

Yep, flu symptoms started New Year’s Eve, v rough for 2 weeks, felt a bit better for a couple of days and then WHAM, it rebounded. 6 weeks altogether, longest I’ve felt ill with flu/cold symptoms in my life. Covid tests were negative.

UmbilicusProfundus · 22/02/2023 22:25

Viral neurosis?

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 22/02/2023 22:28

I had this - I've finally stopped coughing 13 days after I started!

Rellywobble · 22/02/2023 22:29

I had a really awful virus over Christmas. Have never coughed so much and the phlegm was awful…including blood stained ! Am a lot better now but still absolutely knackered and have a regular nap if not working! I have a horrible sour taste in my mouth which is worse when I drink coffee. All LFT negative.

Mariposista · 22/02/2023 22:43

Nasty winter bug. I am struggling through work this week with a razor sore throat, banging head, cough that sounds like I have a 40 a day habit and have never known so much snot (nice). At least 6 others I know have the same so it’s something doing the rounds. I am not used to being unwell and hate it…

User57632678 · 22/02/2023 22:58

Probably covid tbh. I had it at Christmas and it wasn’t until day 4 of daily tests that it started showing up positive. I think whatever strain is in circulation currently isn’t picked up as early on lateral flows and because of how much they cost people get a negative on a test in the first day or two and don’t check again. Although obviously it could just be standard flu too! They’re all so similar symptom wise it’s hard to say.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 22/02/2023 23:01

Have you looked at the back of your throat/tonsils to see if there are any white patches? I had many of the same symptoms as you're describing and it turned out I had strep A.

Morestrangethings · 22/02/2023 23:04

I had what sounds similar in early January last year. It went on for more than a month. But the nasty productive cough comes back every month or two and lasts a few days to a week. It wasn’t covid as I had a PCR test done when I first got it.

PurplePineapple1 · 22/02/2023 23:06

I've had it 5 weeks, 6 weeks next week. It started with covid which wasn't bad at all, have had worse hangovers! It then has been mutating into constant coughing and a horribly sore throat and neck that changes sides every couple of days. I'm knocking back paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 hours just to manage the throat and neck pain. Hideous.

Mango101 · 22/02/2023 23:09

I've got similar now - with positive Covid test.

Throckmorton · 22/02/2023 23:09

I reckon it's some bastard cold with pretentions. I have it right now, the fucker!

Makilda · 22/02/2023 23:11

Yes - we've all had it, and loads of friends have. GP said the cough can last for 6 weeks.

It really does seem to morph like nothing else I've experienced. Two of my DC still have it 3 weeks later.

Shutupyoutart · 22/02/2023 23:13

I've had it for about 4 weeks, felt like you did for the first two. Feeling much better but the bastard cough is still lingering and I've lost my voice. Not covid as negative tests. Hope you feel better soon op x

pinkthree · 22/02/2023 23:15

I had this before Christmas but was also sick and it went on for weeks but felt ok a few of the days

Still since Christmas I've barely had a week where I've felt 100%

ShesThunderstorms · 22/02/2023 23:18

We've all got the same at the moment. We had it over Christmas too and felt like we were only just getting over it. Sick of it now!

MichaelFabricantWig · 22/02/2023 23:22
